Florian replaced by Joe has renewed my interest. Joe Parrish will suit the music we love much more, Florian for all his skill is more straight ahead Rock and massacred some of the Tull canon.

When I first met Florian in 2010 I was not familiar with how much energy and musical skill he possessed. In comparison to Martin Barre he learned very quickly how to attract those who were looking for a new level of TULL. The issues between Ian and Martin were always a distraction and I understood how things could come to an end.
Ian had many ideas about what needed to happen and since the Orchestral Jethro Tull release in 2005, Flo was there. Later the changes came over keyboards and John O'Hara and David Goodier on Bass in 2007 but I could see a different style. Whatever occurred between Ian and Martin took many years to resolve but the writing was on the wall.
As things kept happening Ian wanted to take complete control which made Florian Opahle the guitarist. As much as I loved Martin Barre, I was totally impressed with Flo on every performance and record. When the Zealot Gene becomes a reality we shall see how many songs will be FLO or JOE

Though Flo lacked the full palate we came to expect of the unique and one and only Martin Barre...he did a pretty good job, live and in the studio, over the years he filled the lead guitar role. He may have mistook himself for Slash now and then but his high points, especially on the material developed while he was in the band, were quite impressive. ( Banker Bets, Change of Horses, Enter the Uninvited).

When the Zealot Gene becomes a reality we shall see how many songs will be FLO or JOE Once again your enthusiasm for everything (and indeed anything!) that IA does shines through. You mention a "new level of Tull" but that means something different to some of us. Im sure Ian phased out the last line up to have personality ( Giddings etc,) because the guys from his solo touring band came cheaper, and seem happy to stand anonymously like session men at the back of the stage and play by numbers. I respect Florian, but putting his own stamp on the Tull classics all but ruined them . I hated his string bending on "Budapest" and the tuneless shred fest during Aqualung for example. As for the forthcoming album, it was apparently recorded some time ago, so I suspect it will be Florian rather than Joe.

I would have to agree with this,i only saw Florian play with Ians band once and tbh i thought he 'overplayed' the classic solos etc The 'million notes' shred style of guitar playing leaves me cold,i dont know why Ian didnt go for a more taste ful guitarist in the Gilmour,Knopfler mode which of course Martin was an expert at. I think the Giddings,Noyce lineup definately had more character. I just hope the new guy has tone and feel and isnt a shredder.

Its a no from me. I wonder how many of us would entertain this album if not for the Tull connection? My days of buying anything slightly Tull related ended with the second John Carter (with Martin Barre) album. "Clean the page" or something similar it was called? Dreadful.

Yes, I also bought an album by John Carter & Martin Barre, years ago, and listened to it one time only. I am not going to buy anything in a surprise box

Although I would agree that caution is needed in buying everything and anything ever so slightly Tull related ( I'm looking at you, Leslie Mandoki), I think Florian has at least earned our attention. Where he is and what he is up to and maybe giving his music a chance or a live look feels right.
