Just seen that video Graham when I popped in - very interesting. Thought I'd post this in here as it ties up with the original posts and coincidently it's Earth Day too. i62.images obliterated by tinypic/fvbvrp.png[/IMG] Happy Birthday John Muir. my stupid point- continued- anyway, as I was saying before I accidently hit 'enter'- Nobody would have ever heard of the man Jethro Tull if it wasn't for Ian and the band Jethro Tull- that is not to diminish his great inventions- but, there is no reason in my opinion for Ian to feel guilty about using The Tull name- It might have been if Tull's music sucked or something- but, that was surely not the case. Oh, and HE was, song for song, the best that they have put out in a long time- When I read the album notes where Ian was saying how guilty he felt for using the poor man's name- I thought to myself- then you should do a tribute to him and bring the thing around full circle- and, what do you know? I guess great minds think alike! ( just kidding)- looking forward to the tribute rock opera.

I think he has less concern for Jethro's name but perhaps is ready to clear the air once and for all. Ian Anderson TULL This goes along with years of people saying "There goes Jethro" after walking off the stage. Regardless it can be educational to some and entertaining to everyone to see this 'Rock Opera'.
Being successful in music has always had it's downside. Look at all the 1 hit wonders...
I see an intense desire for Ian to measure his own success now with more reality in his lyrics. Lots of DEEP Thoughts make things complicated at first but more satisfying later... H.E.

Homo Erraticus Wandering Man links with Tolkien.
Still fascinated by Ian's character The Wandering Man and found a link between him, Odin the revered god of Germanic and Nordic mythology and Tolkien.Odin " In Old Norse texts, Odin is depicted as one-eyed and long-bearded, frequently wielding Gungnir ( spear), and wearing a black, blue grey and green cloak and a broad hat." i65.images obliterated by tinypic/116m6fa.jpg[/IMG] (coincidental that one eye is covered?) i66.images obliterated by tinypic/2jdm16x.jpg[/IMG] ...for that reason, he has many names which reflect his appearance as a traveller: Hooded one, Wanderer, Broad hat, Greybeard, and Staffbearer. users.dickinson.edu/~eddyb/mythology/Gods-1.html
Tolkien Tolkien was greatly influenced by Icelandic and Norse mythology. "Along with Odin's personal attributes, he also is keeper of magical treasures... Among other magical objects, Odin posseses a golden ring called Draupnir. This ring was crafted by dwarfs, along with the spear Gungnir. Draupnir drops eight identical rings every ninth evening" "As a student at Oxford University, Tolkien read Snorri’s Edda, the Poetic Edda, and the major sagas. During World War I he fought on the Somme, returning to England with trench fever in November 1916. In the hospital he began writing his fantastical tales of Middle-earth. Gandalf " The wizard Gandalf, for example, is an “Odinic wanderer” (in Tolkien’s words)—like the old man with a broad-brimmed hat and a staff who wanders the nine worlds in Snorri’s tales i66.images obliterated by tinypic/15g76gh.jpg[/IMG] nancymariebrown.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/the-tolkien-connection.html

Space. Place. Dig. Chance. Discover.
Stop. Sorry - we were here first.ROMAN VILLA DISCOVERED BY CHANCE ( IN DEEPEST WILTSHIRE) An "elaborate" Roman villa has been unearthed by chance by a homeowner laying electric cables in his garden in Wiltshire. It was discovered by rug designer Luke Irwin as he was carrying out some work at his farmhouse so that his children could play table tennis in an old barn. i67.images obliterated by tinypic/bed4av.jpg[/IMG] "A stone planter which had been holding geraniums by Mr Irwin's kitchen was also identified by experts as a Roman child's coffin." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-36062538Would have made my day if the headline said; "Roman villa discovered by musician Ian Anderson while weeding his garden"

www.dailymail.co.uk/Ancient forest lost beneath the North Sea is uncovered: Shifting sands reveal 7,000-year-old woodland and human footprintsArchaeologists believe the forest was part of Doggerland, an ancient stretch of land which connected UK to Europe The region would have been gradually flooded by melting glacial ice and geological activity over hundreds of years But experts say the ancient forest on the Northumberland coastline has been perfectly preserved in a layer of peat Archaeologists say that in addition to the forest remnants they have uncovered human footprints from early settlers By RYAN O'HARE FOR MAILONLINE and NORTHNEWS PUBLISHED: 17:40, 16 May 2016 | UPDATED: 01:49, 17 May 2016 The ebb and flow of the North Sea has revealed a waterlogged archaeological secret of Britain's past - traces of hunter gatherers stalking animals through a long-lost woodland.
An ancient forest, which dates back more than 7,000 years and has lain buried beneath the sand for millennia, is slowly being uncovered by the ocean. Tree stumps and felled logs, which have been preserved by peat and sand, are now clearly visible along a 650 feet (200 metres) stretch of coastline at Low Hauxley near Amble, Northumberland.www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3593219/North-sea-reveals-7-000-year-old-human-footprints-ancient-forest-Woodland-stretched-Denmark-covered-ocean.html

Kind of connected to HE and also a mention of IA blog.timesunion.com/hoffmanfiles/your-dna-knows-who-you-are/13478/Your DNA knows who you areBy Rob Hoffman on August 22, 2016 at 6:34 AM This model was made by using a sample of the oldest DNA (37,000 years old) found in Europe. It allows us to understand what the first Europeans looked like. Apparently they look like modern Europeans. In fact, this looks like a picture of Jesus that has been enhanced in order to determine what he would have looked like had he lived long enough to reach middle age. Or, it could be Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull? So many mysteries.

Just had another read of the interview (February 2017) Ian has just done for Prog Mag. They discussed HE and this is Ian's thoughts on it. Have to add that according to the interview, a friend of Ian's thought that the album was making a 'Nigel Farage- style statement on closing borders and that Ian was a UKIP supporter. Didn't go down well. Anyway here's Ian's thoughts on what HE was all about - appropriate to mention at the end of this Thread. ' It's about migration and not about immigration. It's about the migration of ideas, the migration of humanity, commerce, industry, science. It's about the movement of stuff without which we wouldn't be who we are.' from all good newsagents
