Sorry but that photo is from 1968 which means Ian is not on it. I know this because I am in the front row and I have a printed copy of the original. and we thought we'd pinned him down to the middle row!! Bet it's not often you come across a Forum with your school picture in it! Many thanks for pointing that out. 1964, so it's been alleged

For someone who enjoyed science and geography as much as I did, I never heard about... Doggerland till now! Thanks Patti and Graham. ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2012/12/doggerland/spinney-text Migration, territoriality conflict: stressful ways of adapting to new circumstances, but adaptations nonetheless. There came a time, however, when the sea exhausted the Doggerlanders’ capacity for survival. Some 8,200 years ago, after millennia of incrementally rising seas, a massive release of meltwater from a giant glacial lake in North America, called Lake Agassiz, caused sea levels to jump by more than two feet.
By slowing the circulation of warm water in the North Atlantic, this influx of frigid water triggered a sudden plunge in temperature, causing Doggerland’s coasts—if any remained—to be battered by frigid winds. If that were not enough, around the same time, a landslide on the seafloor off the coast of Norway, called the Storegga slide, triggered a tsunami that flooded the coastlines of northern Europe.
Was the Storegga tsunami the coup de grâce, or had Doggerland already disappeared beneath the sea?
Scientists can’t yet be sure. But they do know that sea-level rise slowed down after that. Then, around 6,000 years ago, a new people from the south arrived on the thickly forested shores of the British Isles. They came in boats, with sheep, cattle, and cereals. Today the living descendants of these early Neolithic farmers, equipped with vastly more sophisticated technology than their Mesolithic counterparts, once again look to a future contending with a rising sea.

I don't think you'll have to worry Jim. As the above two dates are not confirmed yet I would suspect the details haven't been passed on by TullCentral. I'm feeling better now. Just want to verify what is the closest venue to my area. If I spend less on gas, I'll have more to spend on a shirt or programme which should be awesome.
The danger of conservative protesters may loom in some places like that crazy bunch in Kansas. I would hate to see signs saying "Homo Go Home". www.vintagevinylnews.com/2013/07/westboro-baptist-church-pickets-ian.html I have doubts that the religious freaks and wingnuts in the southern US would be concerned, because this Anderson tour is a travelling show, it's not US citizens and it's not associated with a particular US location or US institution. However, some of the wingnuts have never let reason get in their way. Here's an example of one group who just have to go out and irritate innocent people on a regular basis. I mean, these Westboro Church people travel to protest at funerals! They'll protest anyone, anything, anywhere, and bike gangs and other groups regularly get out to stop the Westboro group from getting near their intended targets. They are totally nutso. www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/16/westboro-baptist-church-michael-sam_n_4798837.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000013&ir=Politics

Am I alone in thinking the imagery for the cover seems remarkably similar to the images from Stephen Kings Dark Tower series, or does IA see himself as Roland of Gilead ?

Durham, NC (PRWEB) February 17, 2014 Legendary progressive rock pioneer Ian Anderson will be releasing a new studio album Homo Erraticus this spring. The album continues the story of Anderson's favorite enfant terrible from Thick As A Brick, Gerald Bostock. Ian and his band (guitarist Florian Opahle, bassist David Goodier, keyboardist John O'Hara and drummer Scott Hammond) will be touring the United States with a stop at DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, on October 4, 2014. Joining Friends of DPAC is free, and you can register at www.dpacnc.com/fod. In 1972 Ian's band Jethro Tull released the iconic concept album Thick As A Brick, based on a poem by the then-eight-year-old Gerald Bostock. As many fans wondered what might have befallen the character, Ian Anderson decided to explore the different paths Gerald's life might have taken in his 2012 album, Thick As A Brick 2. Following a forty-year political career, Gerald Bostock reunited with Anderson, taking the role of tour manager on a string of shows. Homo Erraticus marks Gerald's return to songwriting, and is based on an unpublished manuscript by amateur historian Ernest T. Parritt (1865-1928). In Homo Erraticus, Parritt examines key events of British history with a string of prophecies stretching to the current day and the future. Visions of past lives caused by the delirium of malaria generate the characters through whose eyes the stories are told, including a nomadic Neolithic settler, an Iron Age blacksmith, a Christian monk, a turnpike innkeeper and even Prince Albert. The album release will be followed by an extensive UK tour, where Homo Erraticus will be performed in its entirety followed by a selection of Tull classics updated with video and theatrics. Ian Anderson recently won The Prog God Award from Prog Magazine, celebrating the innovators of rock who have inspired generations and carved a way for others to be at their creative best. There is no one who has pushed the boundaries more than Ian Anderson, who to this day remains immersed in his love for the music. Fronting seminal prog outfit Jethro Tull and performing simply under his own name, Ian Anderson has performed in more than 54 countries over 45 years; he is widely considered an icon of the genre and is recognized as the protagonist of the flute in rock music. With over 60 million albums sold in its career, Tull has been characterized by Anderson’s trademark acoustic textures created with ethnic flutes and whistles together with acoustic guitar and the mandolin family of instruments. In many recent shows, Anderson has played with orchestras, string quartets and featured soloists. His eclectic acoustic performances are also a hit with fans of the progressive genre. #### ABOUT DPAC: Since its opening in 2008, DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, has become the center for live entertainment in the Triangle. Recognized for its contemporary design, DPAC features 2,700 seats, intimate sightlines and state-of-the art sound and video. Listed four times in the top 10 in Pollstar magazine’s annual worldwide theater attendance rankings, DPAC is currently the #4 ranked theater in the U.S.

From dmme.net/ian-anderson-allows-for-a-change/Ian Anderson allows for a changeAfter some pondering as to whether bill his new endeavor a solo effort or a JETHRO TULL one, Ian Anderson does the right thing. Now that Martin Barre‘s gone it alone, the band’s identity is separated from that of their leader’s, but the concept for his new opus “Homo Erraticus” is purely TULL-ian. On 1972′s “Thick As A Brick” Anderson presented his alter ego, a child prodigy Gerald Bostock who re-emerged from the canon into the present in 2012, on Ian’s "TAAB 2" – the acronym referencing the classic work of a four-decade vintage – which made this scribe come to a conclusion that the mythical poet’s initials, G. B., symbolized Great Britain. And the veteran’s forthcoming “Homo Erraticus” album suggests it was so indeed. Out on April 14th, this work is again said to be based on Bostock’s poems channeling an old manuscript that describes major events of British history and formulates some prognoses for years to come. A concept album, “Homo Erraticus” will be available in a few formats: a regular compact disc and a 2LP with a screen printed side 4; a limited digibook with the album on CD and DVD with a 5.1 surround mix; and a limited edition deluxe 4-disc set with the same two discs plus interview DVD and a bonus CD with audio documentary and “hotel demos,” all housed in 60-page hardback book.

No truer words spoken. I think he did his last solo album, TAAB2, a real disservice linking it to a highly-rated classic (highly rated even by notorious prog-haters like Rolling Stone Magazine). I think the concepts of the album (and the hired band behind him) would have been better served without the miserable Gerald Bostock mewling over his misbegotten life (and it got downright melancholy, pathetically so). I identified with Gerald as a lad, but he became so foreign, even alien, in the last effort -- I am on the far side of 50, and I am having a blast, thank you very much . The new album features Bostock again, but from a poetic angle, not an autobiographic rehashing that completely lacked the original album's humor and out-and-out fiery performances (particularly from John Evan and Barriemore Barlow, who were outstanding, and the grand ending with David Palmer's brief but superb string orchestration). I hope the humor returns. Ian is at his best when he tinges his sarcasm and cynicism with ribald wit (like on TAAB, APP, parts of Aqualung and Minstrel in the Gallery). Otherwise, his pronouncements can become overbearing.

That leaves me mystified, unless Ian is playing a game with us or mistaken. The school website picture is definitely 100% from 1968. I am on the front row, age 11 but Ian is 10 years older than me so he would be 21. The school website creator is the same age as me and also in the picture so I'm doubly sure it's 1968. Odd.

www.progrockmag.com/news/exclusive-ian-anderson-explains-new-album/Prog is proud to present an exclusive interview clip in which Ian Anderson discusses his new album Homo Erraticus – view it below.
It’s taken from an in-depth discussion with Prog editor Jerry Ewing to mark the title’s release on April 14 via Anderson’s imprint Calliandra Records and Kscope.
Homo Erraticus is the third album to feature Gerald Bostock, who first appeared in 1972′s Jethro Tull release Thick As A Brick, then returned in Anderson’s Thick As A Brick 2 in 2012.
In the clip below he explains how the “political hot potato” of migration inspired Homo Erraticus, observing: “As Gerald Bostock says, ‘We’re all from somewhere else – get over it.’”
Anderson kicks off an extensive UK tour on April 28. His solo band will deliver the album in full along with a selection of Jethro Tull classics, updates with video and theatrics. Tickets are on sale now, see jethrotull.com.
