A Gift Of Roses
I count the hours: you count the days. Together, we count the minutes in this Passion Play.

(The) Bends
Bends Like A Willow
..bends to kiss my frown away - Stuck In August Rain
...bends down to pick a dog end.
..milk and honey's just around the bend.
..comic paper idol who lets you bend the rules.
..made him bend to your religion.

If you think this thread is geeky it's not a patch on this Real Meaning of American Pie by Don McLean "... His eight-minute-long "rock and roll American dream" became an anthem for an entire generation - who memorised every line. Their children in turn grew up singing it - fascinated by the mysterious lyrics with their cryptic references"

Gutter
Your sperms in the gutter
The pavements are empty: the gutters run dead
Walking down the gutter thinking
With kitchen prose and gutter rhymes
I read some recent lyrics and "gutter" was there too.
Repeating words in songs may just give an insight in to what has influenced and stayed with him over the years.
His reference to street gutter I think might echo his social conscience and maybe even the memory of the homeless he saw in London when he was young.

Already covered this on the Crest Of A Knave thread:
Thick As A Brick: The poet and the painter, casting shadows on the water Mountain Men: The poacher and his daughter, cast soft shadows on the water...
Musical phrasing is also pretty similar in these two.
