I'm kicking this thread off with any mode of transport featured in any Tull song. Here's three for starters. Tyres down on your bicycle from 'Up to me' Is that my limousine? from 'Nobodys Car' He once owned a Harley Davidson And a triumph Bonneville From 'Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll'

how about:
'a fat ferry sails on muted diesel roar'.
A fantastic description that conjures up a vivid picture for me every time.

Totally agree on that line, and on that album. I would mark it as Tull's finest output of the 80's, usually, for me, defined by having the least amount of subpar material on it, something I would accuse of the A, UW, Walk into Light and Crest records in particular, and god knows David "Dee" Palmers realized travesty, with apologies to his notably good reworking of Warchild. I realize all of those have individual tracks that are amongst the best they have done, ever. I would even include the 20 year box set, at one level an excellent effort, but with all that material, quite some little bit of it was lame, which brings down the overall score. But that was an apt description of that which I believe IA was pointing to, the ferry that used to take you from Skye to Kyle, not far, never got up a good enough head of steam to get those engines roaring. Now so much for 'Over the sea to Skye", at least as regards the old embarkation points, it is of course connected by a bridge.

I am certain, from both logic and pictures, it is at the precise point the ferry was. On the mainland side that's Kyle of Lochalsh. I seem to recall there is a town on Skye named Kyleakin, and that must be it, it is of course, a tiny place, maybe a general store, one hotel, all I can recall. Even some abandoned castle out on a little island that pirates, amongst others I think, would connect a cable to Skye, maybe 120 yards if I remember right, and you had to pay to get thru. Maybe they gave the Bonnie Prince or Mary Queen of Scots a free pass but they likely had to take a much less visible route.
