I thought the live orchestra DVD was a fantastic and well worth addition to the Tull pile;;;played it a lot when it was new and crowed to friends far and wide about the incomparable 'Mother Goose' upgrade...sorta embarrassing when it was pointed out that the MG redo was old news...and that I had sat on it for a few years, on the Aqualung Live CD, somehow not noticing...I had a good excuse...I hitch-hiked from SF to LA and back for the concert that included distribution of the free CD...and gave to to someone who picked me up on the way home and gave me a lengthy lift and seemed impressed that I traveled almost 800 miles RT for a Tull concert...I got my hands on the CD a year or so later when they were piled up at the used CD store...but, i guess, threw it in the pile without paying attention and never heard the latter day goose till it was included on the orchestra DVD...I thought Florian was pretty great from the very start...back then being pro-Florian didn't mean risking being accused of undervaluing MB..it still shouldn't...

Amazon Prime 'unlimited', which is limited, doesn't even have the original release, let alone hint of the extra songs. Too bad because they are great.

IAN ANDERSON PLAYS THE ORCHESTRAL JETHRO TULL Coming on Vinyl for the First Time LINK 1 On 18th November, Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull will be released on 2LP black vinyl. Originally released in 2005 on CD and DVD, this edition contains the concert in its entirety on vinyl for the very first time.
Between 2004 and 2006, Ian Anderson toured the Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull series across Europe and the USA, alongside the Frankfurt Neue Philharmonie Orchestra, conducted by John O’Hara. It also featured Florian Opahle (acoustic and electric guitars), David Goodier (bass and glockenspiel) and James Duncan (drums and percussion)
Speaking in 2005, Ian Anderson said about playing with the orchestra:
“The core band who play with me on these concerts are chosen for their skills in varied musical disciplines. They have to cover, not only the different styles and nuances of any of my and Jethro Tull’s music over the many years, but also need to have a good understanding of the complete workings of the orchestral settings we employ.
The various orchestras with whom I have played since 2001 all have their separate personalities. Some have worked in the whacky world of 'crossover' Classics with people like me before. Some have not and thus face a musical interrogation at rehearsal as we discovery our mutual strengths and failings.
But the whole point is to revel in the little tensions, to explore and exploit the skills and excellence of playing and try ultimately not to get too picky about phrasing and timing when the performance depends on heart, soul and mutual support.”
Ian Anderson Plays The Orchestral Jethro Tull will be released on 18th November, and is available to pre-order now RIGHT HERE: LINK 2
