Hello all,
As you all know, later this year will see a 40th anniversary release of Thick As A Brick with new stereo and surround mixes and also a vinyl release of the new TAAB2 in the package.
EMI are currently preparing the artwork for the release and are on the hunt for 1972 picture sleeves, posters and memorabilia to be featured in the packaging and in the visuals on the DVD.
So can anyone provdide v.high quality scans of anything appropriate? Of particular interest are the various european single picture sleeves and any 1972 concert posters.
Please post anything you have here for us all to enjoy but can you PM me with any high quality scans in jpg format?
Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to seeing what we all come up with!

Apart from the various "backs against the wall" picture covers, there weren't many other legit TAAB covers. Scans courtesy of electrocutas "Backs against the wall" style were similar in design to These are a couple of others which were issued although in reality they weren't inspiring Sweden Holland

And we now have a release date from Steven Wilson! October 15! Fingers crossed, beware the ever-changing due dates. I hope they package the vinyl separately. Vinyl is not required for me. 5.1, 5.1, 5.1, yes. Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick Stereo/5.1 remix will be released on October 15th. www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=290323twitter.com/StevenWilsonHQLet me make you a present of song as the wise man breaks wind and is gone while the fool with the hour-glass is cooking his goose and the nursery rhyme winds along.

Oh good...I can listen to new Brick One en route to the concert ! Funny that all the single sleeves already have a 'TAAB part 2' TAABpart2 from '72, TAABtoo from '12, that's my math. The song I'm singing. Late Extra was a good title for the remaster. I'll play this MFSL in stereo until the remix. More relaxed/relaxing than the remaster. The remaster is actually pretty good in Dolby II Pro Logic 5.1 or Dolby IIx 7.1. (more math for you) s1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/tootull/?action=view¤t=ThickAsABrickremasterlateextraback.jpgAnd the sand-castle virtues are all swept away in the tidal destruction the moral melee. The elastic retreat rings the close of play as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way.

Potentially Good/Bad news from SW's Facebook:
"My 5.1 mix of Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" should also be released around the same time (as LTIA) as part of a 40th anniversary edition of that album (I'm not sure of the formats on that one yet, but most likely a more modest CD/DVDV combination)."
Ok, so the good news about that post is that people should be able to get the 5.1 mix for this one rather inexpensively (unlike Aqualung). The (potentially) bad news is that there may not be Blu-Ray this time around if the package is more modest.
Oh, and amazon Italy has a release date of November 6

I can only wish for blu-ray at this point, it would be nice. This being a must album. I have a blu-ray player that converts 5.1 to 7.1 through the analog outs by duplicating the rear channels with blu-ray hi-res, not DVD. Blu-ray hi-res is slightly more involving with the 7.1 setup. Cheers! __________________

Yes. The first link is the TAAB1/TAAB2 Double Vinyl Bundle, but the second link is looking like a CD/DVDV set. So with that in mind, here's what I'm hoping for. CD will have new stereo mix and bonus tracks DVD will have new 5.1 mix, new stereo mix, old stereo mix, and bonus tracks. If we get that, I'll be satisfied to a point, but it still won't feel right not having Blu-Ray. BTW, the barcode # for the CD/DVDV set is 5099970461923.

This one lists 2 Discs, we're getting closer to DVD. www.standaardboekhandel.be/seo/nl/cds/cd_pop_overige/5099970461923/Jethro+Tull/Thick+As+A+Brick+40Th+Ann+%28Ltd

I sent Steven a message via his Facebook page, and I GOT A REPLY! Here's what he said, regarding TAAB: "well i am guessing about the TAAB reissue, based on the fact that TAAB2 was only released as CD/DVDV. I was pleasantly surprised with what they did for Aqualung, but all the blu-rays you mention were only included as part of expensive deluxe sets of hugely successful albums that continue to sell year in / out to a large mainstream rock audience, and I think their expectations for TAAB will be more modest. Of course I could be wrong, record companies work in mysterious ways!"
So if I can find a good webpage or email to contact EMI, it might not be a bad idea to send them some "nice" emails about a request for Blu-Ray.

That's the spirit, but I think that was through EMI Canada, which may not be the most effective way to contact the people involved with the reissue. I think the best thing to do would be for ONE (or two) people to email Tim Chacksfield. He was in charge of Product Research and Co-Ordination for the Aqualung reissue, and he's probably doing the same for TAAB. Another person who I'm trying to find contact info for is Ray Shulman, who was responsible for authoring the DVD & Blu-Ray discs for the Aqualung reissue with his company Isonic. (He also was the founding member and bass player for Gentle Giant). Getting in touch with these two men might be more beneficial than just sending 100s of emails to EMI. Maybe someone on QQ (including myself) might explain to Chacksfield about DVD-Audio, how it not only sounds better than DTS, but it is no more expensive to author and replicate.

I guess we should update this...OH, NO. www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?16285-Jethro-Tull-s-Thick-As-A-Brick-Stereo-5-1-remix-will-be-released-on-October-15th&p=157040&viewfull=1#post157040Guys, please - I beg you - do *not* start bombarding Tim & Ray with emails about this. It does not work that way in major labels, and all unsolicited emails are likely to do is have the opposite effect. So, please, don't do this. You'll actually be doing more harm than good. - neil wilkes Note to members: Please heed Neil's words. Stop emailing and hounding EMI and others. It will backfire on us. There are forces behind the scenes working in our favor and unsolicited emails may tip them in the WRONG direction. No one wants to be hounded. Please - let it be and wait. Things are turning, but it's NOT because of your emails. - JonUrban - Board Operator

I see that one of the moderators at www.quadraphonicquad.com removed the email address to EMI and it's a timely reminder to mention that it is an unwise move to publish email addresses on the Forum as you can never tell in what context they may be used.
Forum moderators have in the past removed email address from posts for the above reason.
If you want to pass on your email address to a member please use the PM facilty so that it's a private affair 'cos you never know who may use email addresses and for what reason. Thanks Maddog

If they've got a FB page and they haven't set the message function to private then I don't see anything wrong with contacting them via FB and lets face it your not asking them their star sign or what's their fav pizza topping
Kudos to Steven Wilson!!!

I just had a crazy thought! What if EMI released TAAB as a CD/DVDV package and released the Blu-Ray disc with the vinyl version that is reportedly being offered too? It wouldn't be the first time EMI packaged 5.1 surround with just a vinyl...
