The latest edition of RC is advertising that when the November edition is published (out in the shops 3 November) there will be a feature on Jethro Tull. I would expect that this will be in conjunction with the Aqualung re-issue.

December issue:
On the eve of the release of a 61-track multiformat box set marking the 40th anniversary of Jethro Tull’s renowned Aqualung, Ian Anderson gets the measure of the album, and tells Martin Webb about the loneliness of the long-distance songwriter, God and cathedrals...

A very Jethro Tull friendly issue. The editor, Ian McCann, reminisces about going to see Tull at Wembley for a Passion Play in his editorial, then there's the six page article by Martin Webb which amongst other things mentions that IA was invited in the mid seventies to play a gay character in one of Joe Orton's plays and a four star review of the Aqualung release. And all for £4.

And if it wasn't enough with "Away With Words" and the new Brian Rabey book, leaping into a nearest newsagents (at least here in the UK) is the latest edition of Record Collector with OldWebby's article on "A Passion Play". recordcollectormag.com/I was going to do a full review but (a) I haven't read it yet, (b) OldWebby hasn't paid me yet and (c) do I read BR's book first and then the article or visa versa ? So it seems I'll have to let you all buy your own copy and just post the synopsis from the top of the article until OldWebby gets out his cheque book and sends me my fee.* *He's now retired from the civil service after years of hard work and has got plenty of dosh to afford my services.

November edition of Record CollectorA short "Talking Heads" piece with Martin BarreA 3 star review of TAAB Live In IcelandTull man heads north – and back in time
Jethro Tull’s concept album Thick As A Brick was last played live in its entirety over four decades ago – sufficient reason for Ian Anderson to dust it down for 176 performances across 2012- 13. As this show from early in the tour illustrates, this was followed by the newly recorded Thick As A Brick 2, imagining five different life stories for the original work’s protagonist, Gerald Bostock.
Many fans feel the now-veteran Anderson has struggled on the live vocal front in recent years, hence his recruitment of young actor Ryan O’Donnell as an on-stage foil, credited with “additional vocals, dance and mime”. It proved an astute move, also serving to heighten the sense of theatre as the pair traded lines.
Extras on this DVD include an interview with an Icelander, in which Anderson draws many parallels with his native Scotland, two TAAB2 songs as performed at the 2012 Montreux Jazz Festival, and an impromptu rehearsal jam with late festival founder/part-time harmonica-player Claude Nobs. All in all, a release to appeal to those who witnessed the show, Tull completists and… Icelanders?

A rather fine article about Tír na nÓg in the latest edition of Record Collector. If you're interested in them it's certainly worth a purchase. recordcollectormag.com/issue-detail/450Progressive, dark, mysical yet profoundly down to earth, Tír na nÓg have been making miraculous and breathtaking music for more than 45 years. RC’s Tim Peacock tramps their corner of Ireland to uncover their secrets
Myths and legends have always fanned rock’n’roll’s eternal flame. From the much-disputed site of Robert Johnson’s grave through to alleged posthumous sightings of Jim Morrison, stories of arcane wonderment usually involving prematurely dead stars continue to fascinate music obsessives, even in the cold, hard 21st Century.recordcollectormag.com/articles/forever-youthful

Am I right in thinking that the Tull picture on the cover on the April 2022 Record Collector is the same one that used to be used as the header on this forum?
Or is my mind playing tricks?

Yes it's a good read and Sid Smith, who interviewed IA for the main article, has done a fair job. The discography is pretty good as well and it's great to see that my red label promo copy of Sunshine Day has held its value at £600 .

I have skimmed through the issue but will read it properly at the weekend. The ex-members/contributors of Jethro Tull article looks fascinating! 'The Collector' featuring Martin Webb (does he post on this forum?) is interesting. Is it you maddogfaggin? I wish I had a copy of 'Sunshine Day'. I salute you sir! Still, I do have a copy of 'Merry Christmas (Ring Out Solstice Bells) worth £80.00! Martin Webb does have a fantastic collection, and what about all those books! Fantastic issue full of Tull goodies.

No, I'm not MW I'm far more sophisticated and worldly wise and able to spot a troll at 50 paces . He is a member here and goes by the name of oldwebby. He also assists Dave Rees with the A New Day magazine and I've known both since the dawn of time .
