Q1. Flute still on the track. Q2. Nederlands Congresgebouw, 16th March 1980. Quote from the book: "Recorded in stereo from the front of house desk by Tull engineer Chris Ansom." The Netherlands Congresgebouw SBD has been circulating for many years. The sound is great, and probably improved for this release, but the performance is pretty bland in my opinion. Tull was in a lull, with the powerful 70s concert tours behind and the band soon to break up, they seem to be looking for direction. Martin, who provided much of the excitement of a Tull concerts throughout the years seems to have lost a lot of his energy in this show. On the other hand, an off night for Tull even in 1980 was still better than just about any other band out there. This one ? Date and band line up on the reverse sleeve wrong but the setlist seems correct.

Just going by the sound of it -- that's not a penny whistle, not with that clear tone across the octaves. Also the style of playing -- a whole bunch of slides going on, a technique IA didn't use until changing to open-hole flutes. They can be done on a penny whistle, and there's a slide or two on The Whistler, but, as mentioned, this isn't a penny whistle. Sounds like a Patrick Olwell bamboo flute to me, same as on the title track of Roots to Branches (though a different key, I think). So, given that IA did a whole load of flute overdubs on Nightcap, I'm assuming this is another example, in addition to the Chateau stuff. I'm not sure if there's any official notes on what overdubs were added to what Nightcap tracks ... so I'm only going by what I'm hearing. I'd be interested to know if anyone's heard different from official sources. A I think Ian only added flute (not bamboo flute) parts to the Chateau tapes, because of the missing vocal/flute parts. No added parts on CD2 of Nightcap, I think. He uses the same kind of sound on the early version of Dun Ringill (to be included in the Force 10 set) and I don't think he added something later here as well.

It's been a while since I last Heard the bootleg, but I recall the show being quite good, with a solid guitar Solo on Orion.

As a flautist/bamboo flautist/pennywhistle player, I can confirm 100% that its a tin whistle. Likely one of the same ones used on "The Whistler". Definitely not a slide whistle, either. Concerning the Nightcap tracks, Ian only added flute, no bamboo flute. And like you said, only on Disc 1. I was pleased to get the A Passion Play remaster set and hear those songs WITHOUT the added flute (not that I mind the added flute, but the reverb effect Anderson used was a bit much).

Hi everybody I am asking for help. I preordered the upcoming "Stormwatch" boxset a while ago from Amazon US but, unfortunately, the item has been "currently unavailable" for a while now and I have no shipping date. I sent an e-mail to Amazon and they told me it'll be in stock again but a lot of time has passed without any news. On Ebay Argentina privates are now offering it but at an insanely expensive price (150 US). I am looking for someone who can receive the package outside Argentina (I can order it and send the package to you) and ship it back to me using a private courier like UPS. I'll pay back the shipping expenses with Western Union. You may ask why not order from other retailers. Answer is except for Amazon US, all others charge an unthinkable amount of import fees.
Thanks in advance

I am glad you hear the same thing as me (flute players!). It would really surprise me if the whistle on Broadford Bazzar was added later. You can produce glissandi (slides) easily on a tinwhistle because it is open holed. And you can produce them on closed hole flutes as well by changing the embouchure. Just listen to the flute solo at the end of Flying Dutchman!

Thanks for the kind words. I worked in South America (Bolivia) for a couple of years and know how difficult it can be to get CD's & DVD's there at sensible prices. I visited Argentina a few times and found the country and its people to be great.. well worth a visit if you ever get the chance.

This picture popped up when I went to google something this morning. Low and behold there was an Ian interview he gave to billboard mag and below was a link to the new “old” version of Dun Ringill that was being shared by Ian. So go to billboard and have a listen.

Amazon tells me i can expect Stormwatch on November 25th. Now I have to learn to be patient...right away. Oh-Oh, I thought I was going to give some good news, but now I`m not sure. After a lot of thought on whether to get up early Friday and go to the record store, hoping to find Stormwatch, I ordered it online from deepdiscount.com for $50. I got an email from them tonight saying that a shipping label was printed, though it has not shipped as of yet. No word from them so far about delaying shipping until November. I will let you know when it ships. The same company was selling Stormwatch on Ebay for $45.05 +1.99 shipping. Just checked again, they`re popping up more frequently on Ebay now, all in the $45-$50 range. Still saying Oct.18 release date.

Personally I'd go with Burning Shed every time. Never had any problems with them for Tull and non Tull items. You can bet that sellers on ebay will have Stormwatch available at inflated prices - maybe this is the reason and all copies have been bought by retailers to sell on ebay ?

Change of release date - Jethro Tull - Stormwatch - The 40th Anniversary Force 10 EditionInbox Burning Shed 2:42 PM (25 minutes ago) Hi Thanks for your order for Jethro Tull – Stormwatch (The 40th Anniversary Force 10 Edition) We are sorry to say that due to a mistake by Warners there was not enough stock left to supply all of the UK and Irish independent shops who wanted copies. (To be clear, we placed our order with Warners four weeks in advance so they were aware how many copies we needed. Normally, these arrive about a week ahead of the release date so that we can start packing). As a result of the error, the UK/Ireland release date has been put back to 15th November 2019 while they make some more copies. The 18th October remains as release date for everywhere else outside UK/Ireland. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate that this will be very frustrating for you, especially as the majority of you are outside the UK and Ireland. All we can do is ask for your patience. You will still get an exclusive postcard and 500 lucky orders will receive a card signed by Ian Anderson. By way of an apology we will be including an extra, exclusive Jethro Tull gift in your order. Once again, we’re sorry for the situation, all of which is beyond our control. Kind Regards Pete www.burningshed.comsupport@burningshed.com

Amazon are very fair with prices too MD, I am paying just under £30.00 for the CD/DVD, and with a guarantee of reduction if the price is lower, so surely this is good?

Yes all is good but it does seem that Warners may have under estimated demand for Stormwatch or someone has mis-filed paperwork somewhere. The email that was sent by Burning Shed yesterday seems to imply this. It's strange that some Amazon sites list the album as unavailable while others have it in stock and in some instances orders were sent out before the official release date.

Bottom picture says "v.l.n.r." meaning from left to right, but with the Dutch abbreviation. Must be a picture from a Dutch paper, which is nice, since I'm from The Netherlands! My copy arrived just today and it's beautifull!!!

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's German...I know, because I supplied this promo photo, which I got in 1980 from Phonogram the German branch of Chrysalis then. But it's nice anyway, isn't it?
