Why not make that your vacation week Bernie, do a total leisure cruise down Highway 1 either on the way down or back or both if there is time?

Funny how the facts came by T-shirt...but so be it...I'm going on the premise that the shirt is word and I'm gonna call in sick to work on 10-18 and drive exactly 299 miles from my home to a tacky Indian reservation casino in Santa Ynez , CA to see The Bricks. The whole thing will only cost a full day's work as I can drive down after work on Wed the 17th, stay over and drive back, inspired by the gig, overnite, in time for work Saturday the 19th. Any Californians interested in meeting up? Bluehare, Salamander, Land's End? I may be met by a Tull devotee from Las Vegas ( haven't asked him yet) but am more or less planning to go it alone. So now I'll need a countdown clock to 10-18.......and there is still a chance they add a date closer to my home sometime before the first Southern california date, 10-17 in San Diego...there is a one week gap on the T-shirt schedule....plenty of time but plenty of possibilities as the gig before is 10-7 in distant as can be New Jersey...where do they go those 10 days? Canada?, Northern California? The Northwest (Seattle, Portland etc)? college towns in Pennsylvania and the rest of the Midwest? But at least I can rest easy with a feasible plan. I have e-mailed the casino begging for advance notification on ticket sales...check this place out...can you believe the gigs there? www.chumashcasino.com/Home.aspx

Good point...they probably don't dim the lights in casinos...what if someone has the urge to go gamble during a song?...I mean, that's why they book concerts, to attract gamblers...grrrrrrr....gambling and Tull used to mean the risk of hitch-hiking to a far off show or consuming untested drugs....times have changed. Casino designers take plenty of time and care to put the bathrooms somewhere that requires maximum exposure to most gambling choices on the way....like the stores spread out the escalators so you have to walk in front of more stuff.

Rolling Stones. Large stadiums. That's the ticket for you..."consuming untested drugs" (explains a lot). Tull or Stones? Your choice. (no emoticon for you) Casino concerts, not my ticket. Invest your life in the memory bank ----- ours the interest and we thank you.

Yes, I blame the drugs......and I'm glad I'm not lining up to buy tickets to I.A. at the local 50,000 seat stadium ( although it would be a better world if Tull was that popular) it's just odd ( or against the odds) that casino bookers are willing to bet that paying I.A. for a show will result in a tidy profit for the tribe via collateral gambling once the Tull fan types walk in the door. What do I know?...maybe there's a massive overlap between latter day prog rock conniseurs and slot machine afficianados. Someone bets, someone wins.

As we often are reminded here in the nuthouse...even a broken clock is right twice a day...wait, no, that's not right...a broken clock is never right...a stopped clock is right twice a day, right, no? wait a minute, I'll figure it out....what I mean is, back in about 2001 I angrily sent a guy back to his hospital room for daring to interupt the group therapy session i was conducting with screaming drivel about airplanes flying into buildings in NYC.

Yes, really, truly...an intrusive, paranoid, unsuitable for group guy, purposely left out, came barging in yelling about airplanes crashing into the WTC in NYC....I asked other staff to get him out of the room and back to his own room ( I guess he was watching TV !).

New plan...Casino OUT...San Diego IN...my Tull friend from Las Vegas, an israeli, thus another Jew for Jethro, says meet him in San Diego on 10-17.....tickets already on sale but what the hell...if we get in the door we'll find a way to beg, borrow or steal an upgrade. The san Diego concert is at a beautiful thater with no slot machines nor slot machine users in sight...and a full 24 hours earlier than the concert i was planning to attend. So now I have to buy a round trip plane ticket for SF to SD.....probably enough in my kid's college fund for that !

From www.ynetnews.com Jethro Tull to heat up Israeli summer
British rock band to perform once more in Israel, as global tour dates include 3 September gigs in Jerusalem, Haifa, Raanana
Or Barnea Published: 03.22.12, 08:03 / Israel Culture
British rock band Jethro Tull is no stranger to Israel, and in their upcoming global tour they promise to once again grace the Israeli stage.
According to the group's official website, Jethro Tull will perform at three locations across the country between September 6th-8th 2012.
They will first take the stage on September 6 at the Old Jerusalem Railway Station, then continue to Haifa's International Convention Center the following day and conclude their visit at Raanana's amphitheatre on September 8.
Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull's soloist and flutist since 1967, is due to appear in Israel after the band kicks off their six-month world tour in Australia. They are set to continue on to Europe and before heading to North America – the group will pop by sing their tunes once more.
In a 2006 interview with Ynet, prior to one of his previous visits to Israel, Anderson said: "I am not afraid to appear in Israel, although when I come to a place like Israel, I know it's not a picnic by the Thames. I am aware of the tension and it saddens me." Jethro Tull will join other world-famous musicians who are set to preform in Israel this summer, including Guns N' Roses. The legendary American rock and roll band has signed off to perform in Israel on July 3rd in Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv.
Madonna, Lady Gaga and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will arrive in the Holy Land next summer as well.

Hello all, long time, no contribution!
However, now I am here, just to say that the ongoing discussions about all things Tull have been very "interesting" in 2012. I have to thank my mate Damo for acquiring (after a rather tasty accumulator bet coming up trumps) tickets for Hammersmith Odeon - can't bring myself to give the new name LOL - and despite saying I wouldn't go to see a Tull / IA show again, I am looking forward to it.
The new material is quite decent, I just hope Ian's vocals are ok.
Quite honestly, having seen his solo show in Peterborough a couple of years or so ago, the sound was atrocious. The crew didn't seem aware that Ian's mic wasn't working until 1/2 way through the first song, which was Dun Ringill. By the time they got it working, it was clear that Ian's vocals weren't too hot anyway. However, as always, the musicianship was immense. So ........my thoughts on live shows.....I would avoid in future, unless IA decided that he should concentrate on the music, and get a buddy on board whose COULD hit the notes. Bruce Dickinson?
Couple that with the fact that Martin Barre was going on the road and playing "other" old stuff, 2012 maybe was gonna be alright after all.
Bugger me, though. Martin is playing Cambridge (18 miles from home for me) on the day I am going to TAAB2.
Life 's a bitch sometimes.
Enough rambling for now.

Hi Ste Glad to see back. Wow ultimate choice there - Martin playing the same night as Ian - love to see the takings for either show for that night!! A poll amongst Tull fans or even someone standing outside the venues interviewing them as they go in. Looking forward to your reviews of the concert. Enjoy !!

www.classicrockmagazine.comGig Of The Week: Ian Anderson’s Jethro Tull WHO: Ian Anderson’s Jethro Tull WHERE: Perth Concert Hall WHEN: Saturday, April 14 This is a special tour for Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull fans. Not only is Anderson celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic Thick As A Brick album by playing this in its entirety, but he’ll also be playing new album Thick As A Brick 2. “Ever since 1972, people have asked me about doing a follow-up,” says Anderson. “It’s come from fans, the media and record company people. In fact, I’ve been seriously approached twice in the last decade. But my real problem is that I do not want to wallow in the nostalgia of revisiting old albums like this or Aqualung. “Then at the end of 2010, I met up with Derek Shulman, who was a member of 70s prog band Gentle Giant and has more recently been a very successful music business executive in America. I’m not sure which one of us first mentioned it, but after a few drinks, the question came up about what Gerald Bostock [the ‘star’ of the original album] would be doing today. And that led on to wondered what happened to the St. Cleve Chronicle, the 16-page local newspaper than made up the packaging of Thick As A Brick.” With this starting point, Anderson very quickly fleshed out the storyline, looking at different timelines that Bostock could have followed. “He could have been a politician, an astronaut, a priest… where might he have gone? One thing I did do was make him 10 years old in 1972, which was a bit of a cheat. But that meant he could be 50 in 2012 – and I do like round numbers. So, I had him as being the eight-year-old schoolboy when he first entered that poetry competition, which was centerpiece of Thick As A Brick, but by the time he was disqualified he was 10 [if you’re puzzled by these references to the fictitious Gerald Bostock and the infamous poetry contest, then you really do need to check out Thick As A Brick!]. “Setting the new album in 2012 also allowed me to look at the way the world has changed since 1972, and also what’s stayed the same.” With a band featuring Florian Opahle (guitar), John O’Hara (keyboards), David Goodier (bass/double bass) and Scott Hammond (drums), Ian Anderson will perform the whole of the 1972 album, followed by TAAB2. “Well, there will be a 20-minute interlude between the two, during which people can go to the toilet, buy drinks… or watch an audio-visual presentation as Lord Cruddock shows us round Cruddock Hall. “Actually, what I want to achieve with this part of the show is something like a slick village hall effect. So, it will be a little amateurish as we see Lord Archibald Parritt trying to front his own YouTube channel and getting it slightly wrong! “I don’t want all the razzmatazz and state-of-the art technology you’d get from a Roger Waters show, nor all the dancers and attitude associated with seeing Madonna. No, this works as slightly surreal British humour. With lots of whimsy and satire that you got from Monty Python and the first two series of Little Britain.” And expect some surprises in the eccentric Ian Anderson style during the show

Nightly prayers include humble request that Ian and all involved stay healthy, happy and the tour runs well so nothing goes wrong or derails it before it gets to my neck of the woods in just over 6 months. Clap hard, Brits, behave, don't yell 'Aqualung' and don't pout about no encore and no material beyond the two bricks...okay ?!
