My 15 minutes of fame is on tap...The guy who hosts a weekly "Deadhead hour' on the radio, nationally syndicated BTW-is going to have me on his show sometime soon to celebrate Aqualung's 40th birthday and all things Tull. Details soon...don't worry, I'll still be the same, humble, understated, equitable dude...fame will not go to my head and you little people will still be my friends.

The Tull special will be one hour of the Deadhead Hour on July 13th....i think it will be a pre-scripted interview of me with plenty of music from original Aqualung and the XM broadcast interspersed. I guess I piss with the big dogs now, no?

Well u know I am proud of u Bernie. I remember, and have tapes dating back to, when that was a new program in 85 and I was a Bay Area resident. Doubtless I have somewhere around 300 hours of that show on tape, though he must be nearing his 1000th hour by now. With the onset of the net, and the other Dead show he hosts on the web, 2 hours and nearly as old I think, Dead to the World, I no longer archive it, but a very wonderful program. KPFA in large part is where the Grateful Dead started too, as Phil Lesh was an intern in there in the late 50's, when they had an up and coming young bluegrass/folk guy named Jerome Garcia on and.... Highly recommend KPFA streaming on grounds extra musical as well, arguably the most important and possibly the oldest of the public radio outlets, and, being based in the Peoples Republic of Berkeley, a take on news events that I find often enlightening, and decidedly of what is termed a far left bent. Very good informative health programs as well, still an excellent outlet. But please don't let Gans trivialize Tull into some sort of nostalgia outlet, or be overly Aqualung specific, to the extent that he is a fan at all I would estimate his knowledge of them post 1974 is nearly zero. Remember this is a guy who doubtless holds the Talking Heads in much higher esteem, he wrote a book about them too, always will recommend his 85 work on the Dead, Playin in the Band. In large part, although I still like the Aqualung album, and as history to this point has shown Tull would be nearly forgotten without it, I also believe in terms of perception it does Tull no favors, playing into a formulaic perception of them, particularly the anthemic Aqualung and Loco. If Iron Maiden or Metallica is finding something to like about Tull, I almost feel like they must be doing something wrong. Please no one try and convince me of the merits of either. I just wish I could hear Aqualung again in 71, within its time frame difficult to express how ground breaking it was, and what a call to attention those opening notes were. And the inside cover, never have I seen the spirit of Tull better depicted, particularly in the form of John Evan and Ian.

David G shows some Tull respect and knowledge....counts an epic trip with multiple listens of TAAB as one of his memorable experiences....I have a long time to plan my schtick...and besides definite inclusion of Strange Avenues....to show how Mr. Lung was doing in 1989, I'm sure I'll come up with a non-nostaligic, annoyingly academic and fawning 60 minutes of Tull propoganda/love. All suggestions will be appreciated, BTW.

I, with help from everyone, even canadians, will preside over a 40th birhtday party for Aqualung on a local radio show...now planned for 8-3-2011. I have one hour to fill and already think I'll start with Strange Avenues as an intro (....and why is that record cover from 1971 still relevant, mr. monkey?) My God will be the first cut from the album (Dostoyevsky for teenagers) mor blah, blah, probably Mother Goose from the Seattle CD to prove the songs have aged well....Locomotive Breath to place Tull in big rock and roll context and Aqualung-Wind-Up finale...right? I still have a long time to chew on this and hope for plenty of input from all of you.....

Now what great news Bernie As you said you have plenty of time to prepare and we will prepare you no doubt about it you will go into that interview with Tull coming out your ears as long as you attribute some of it to your fellow scholars at the Tull faculty. and Yes do mention the fact that we think Anderson had the lightbulb moment for Aqualung when sitting watching Fiddler on the Roof at one of it's first showing in the Her Majesty's Theatre London in the late sixties It first showed in 1967 1967 - 1971 ?? enough time to compose Good news Bernie and will we all get a chance to hear it?
