This was born out of a conversation at work but for those of you interested in such things, this is the Anderson Tartan (or most common one at least) and the Anderson Crest In addition, I never knew that the Cornish have a National Tartan as well

A little surprised to see that Senator Fagin as I read, almost certainly in A New Day many years ago, or maybe even a few times, that the one worn during the Brick tour was an Anderson tartan. Doubtless a massive clan, maybe there is more than one tartan.(Can u folks say tartan Highland style?) Anyway in the pics I have seen that one seemed to have more a orange or brown base than what seems to be blue here. Mostly of note to me because I know more than once I have made reference to that here or there, under the assumption that what I was parroting was true.

Thanks for the info...I'm gonna paper my walls in Anderson pattern ASAP and adapt the motto the 'stand UP sure ( on one leg). Don't know what my family tartan is but chances are, considering my ethnic background, it is : 'on sale' My last name, kellman, probably comes from germanic/yiddish 'keller' ( basement) maybe an underground man in my background or someone who owned a cellar or two...I've gotten postcsrads all my life from ireland with 'hosue of kells' type pictures...i guess it's the thought that counts. My hebrew first name means blessed....or, more commonly, 'lucky'....one thinks of a dog with three legs, one eye and a broken tail called 'Lucky', no?

Well the Anderson clan is one of the major clans of Scotland the name being derived from "Son of Andrew" and the motto is Stand Sure ( no question mark after "stand") However did you know that it was only up until the mid 1800's that tartan was associated with clans as prior to that they represented the area they were woven (no i didn't either until I googled) So for eg in the great battle of Bannockburn they would'nt have been recognisable as clans *draws breath* only as a great big tartan stramash What I do know from visiting the various tartan shops in Glesga looking for presents to send to people "abroad" and standing behind the "Kellerman's" on holiday asking questions is that some of the major clans have different tartans for different occasions ie hunting/dress/funeral/ bingo. and yes I knew of a Cornish tartan however it's not as course and hairy as the Scottish tartan cause the weather's better and Scotsmen are a hardy lot grrrrrrrr i56.images obliterated by tinypic/jhtvy9.gif[/IMG]

This is the nearest tartan I've come up with for you Mr. Kellman. The MacKeller Tartan

There are hunting tartans and bog standard ones that are different and I think it depends in what context the kilt etc is being worn. When we were in Inverness on the tour in 1989, the tartan shop there was raided by some for momentos of the Anderson clan - the owner had his best day's sales for many a month.
