today i drove down the 'pool to the venue where it all began for IA....the holy family church hall in blackpool, (see pics). my pilgrimage was somewhat lonely, the wife flatly refused to come.... But it was really worth it. the holy family church and hall is in a comfortable but unremarkable area of the the town. i walked up and down the the golden mile treading in the same footsteps of the old boy taking in the "iron tower" and the "silver sea". the deserted pleasure beach and tower ballroom brought to mind the album.... the golden mile is being refurbished however, and my train of reflective thought was distracted by the sound of diggers and dumper trucks. A cold january day probably isnt the best time to visit blackpool but it certainly fired my imagination. i would recommend any fan to visit the place...not quite dove cottage or shakespeares birthplace but a real tonic for a fan eager to see where it all began!!! Excellent photograph Snaffler and many thanks for posting. Blackpool is somewhere I've never been to but will add to the list of places to visit. Did you take any more of the venue 'cos I'm certain that the folks here would love to see them if you did. Cheers MD

hi heres a pic of the plaque on the wall of the church hall "Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs!" I'm amazed and pleasantly surprised by the plaque. Does the Holy Family Church cash in on that historical event by selling any Tull souvenirs Thanks for making the journey snaffler

Does the Holy Family Church cash in on that historical event by selling any Tull souvenirs What do you think If they had employed the nuns in my old school to run the stockmarket there wouldn't have been a crash

That's brilliant - thanks for posting - and how ironic that it's an RC church given his lyrics on some versions of My God (e.g Isle of Wight') where the 'And the graven image you-know-who with His plastic crucifix' is Catholic!

I'm telling you between this and Canterbury cathedral he'll be bringing out a version of this soon warning - staring at this image for long will get you running for the nearest crucifix i55.images obliterated by tinypic/zvpy8i.jpg[/IMG]

i found out about the IA tull plaque by trawling through the box.bz looking for any ref to tull and came across an hour special on bbc radio lancashire on the whole plaque thing. its well worth a listen and has nice interviews with IA and JHH among others. IA also talks about john evans living down the street and it being easy to transport the gear to the venue!!

The only time I've done a "pilgrimage" is when I drove past Pophleys in 1989 when the Andersons lived there. I did go and see Dave Pegg when I recorded an interview with him for a radio programme at his house in Barford St Michael. Not only did I interveiw him in his recording studio but got to play one of his acoustic guitars which had previously been owned by IA. An indelible memory for me was being told lots of Tull "gossip" while he made coffee in the kitchen, and I didn't record that
