Here's my review of the Christmas competition prize "Life's a long song" cd/dvd by Living with the past recorded live on June 28th 2008 at Club Infinity,Buffalo. NY. Starting off with an 18 min.15 sec. "Thick as a Brick" I'm already impressed with the obvious talent the band has, it does take a while to get used to Ray's voice as the music is so good you expect to hear Ian singing along. Ray shows his skills on flute with "Living in the Past". The band then really come to life with "To cry you a song", John Oliver is superb on drums on this track, the timing couldn't be better. Chris Martin starts the next with the cry "Mary" to begin the classic "Cross eyed Mary". The lovely acoustic "Salamander" next with the added treat on the dvd of a young lady doing a belly dance. Dave Pegg plays a foot tapping bass solo " Level pegging", He takes up the mandolin for the next 2 tracks "Life's a long song" and "Skating away", but back to bass guitar for one of my favourite Tull Tracks "Budapest" and I wasn't disappointed, Erin Ward is excellent on electric guitar, as is John Burg who gets to shows his skills in "Broardsword" and the next "My God" which drifts in to the "Tull medley" a well executed medley with "A Passion play" excerpt slotted in between "Whistler" and "Songs from the wood" which for me is one of the highlights of the cd. Rounding off with "Locomotive Breath" and an other great opening this time from Kevin Kukoda on keyboards. And, just for good measure at the end Louis Armstrong singing "What a wonderful world". This cd/dvd by "Living with the past" is a worthy tribute to celebrate 40 years of Jethro Tull. bunkerfan Living with the Past is:
Ray - vocals, acoustic guitar, flute Erin Ward and John Berg - acoustic and electric guitars Kevin Kukoda - keyboards, vocals Chris Martin - bass John Olivier - drums * Special Guest - Dave Pegg - bass, mandolin

Thanks for the review young sir. I rate the band highly and reckon they perform the songs in the "spirit" of Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson and I hope they go on to greater things.
