has anyone ever heard of a recording of this show? i was there up from newcastle with my mates and as i remember it was brilliant. i'd love to get my hands on a recording, if only for nostalgias sake, if nothing else!! i've had a look in all the obvious places, such as MOI and electrocutas, with no luck. it may not even exist.

Never heard of a recording of that concert - the nearest one that I have on CDr is Berlin (18/5/1978). Got that in a trade many years ago.

I remember Usher Hall as a great venue, I went to see Tull there in 1973, when I telephoned to book tickets I remember asking for seats as close to the stage as possible, I ended up in row z in the gods. Good luck in your quest for a recording of the 1978 gig, I bet there is one out there.

Would it be fair to say the Bursting Out would reflect the music of that great day in the Edinburgh Usher Hall – the premier venue in Scotland for all bands IMHO? I was there that night, seated 2nd row from the front. So close, in fact, that Ian’s sweat “splashed” as far back as the second row. Ian was outstanding and absolutely energetic. I have always considered Bursting Out to be a well recorded album, IA & group on fine form, and reflective of the Edinburgh Usher Hall night. Others may have a different view. I was living in Rosyth at the time but my friend, who was studying at Edinburgh Uni, obtained tickets the morning/minute they went on sale. Thus, seats second from the front, 3 seats in from the middle isle. Now compared with seeing Jeff Beck last month in at the Bristol Colston Hall, I was second row FROM THE BACK, up in the “gods”. Still, I am sure it was Jeff Beck playing, as nobody could play like that!! Those were the days, seeing Tull (two rows from the front) for £1.50 or so – about the price of a couple of pints of lagers and lime!! .

great concert great times mind you as a Weegie I might not agree with you about the Usher Hall being Scotland's premier venue but then you probably got out intact whereas a good night at the Glasgow Apollo was if you were standin in the stalls - you managed to avoid fans falling over the balcony on yer yer heed ........man
