Anyone remember Tir Na Nog - an irish duo who supported Tull on the Brick Tour in 1972? They made 3 excellent albums for Chrysalis.
Well next year is the 40th Anniversary of the release of their debut album and they are playing two nights at London's Borderline on Friday 25th March and SAturday 26th March 2011
I am promoting them - tickets for the SAturday show on sale shortly. Pm me for any further info - these will be great gigs!

Hello boydie1 (Trev) and a very warm welcome to the Forum ;D ;D Tir Na Nog are truly worth their weight in gold - a superb class act. I had the privilege to hear them supporting Tull in Glasgow in the 70's. I also contacted them via myspace fairly recently and received a lovely message back which I believe is typical from them about the concert. Please feel free to keep us updated on everything and are they playing in Norn Ireland again soon ? Ps I just recently bought a mint copy of Strong in the Sun in the travelling record fair

A funny thing, I asked Ian one time if he ever heard of Horslips and his reply was that he felt sure he had played with them sometime. Not true, but I have a feeling he was getting them mixed up with Tir na Nog. I had forgotten just how good they were, thanks Nonrabbit.
Dont forget your tickets for Horslips this December in the Waterfront Belfast !

Come and see the show - it will be a great gig! www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=413872Tir na nOg Tir na nOg, the duo formed by Leo O'Kelly & Sonny Condell in Dublin in early 1970, caused somewhat of a sensation both on the folk and rock scenes almost as soon as they landed off the boat train to Britain. Even before signing with Chrysalis Records that summer they already had established themselves in the London folk clubs, with their impromptu appearances and beautiful original songs. They immediately started touring Britain and Europe with Jethro Tull and Procol Harum before releasing their first of three albums for Chrysalis, entitled simply, Tir na nOg. The album was Melody Maker album of the month. They gathered followers of every musical persuasion from their appearances with bands as disparate as Hawkwind, The Who, and Fairport Convention and Roxy Music, while at the same time headlining their own college and club gigs. Their music, which is often described as psychedelic folk, was championed by John Peel, resulting in many Peel sessions in the early 70s. They have remained a cult band since leaving their record company in 1974. This year marks the 40th birthday of their debut album "Tir na nOg". They have recently released a new album, "Live At Sirius", which features many of their timeless songs from the three Chrysalis albums, including their version of Nick Drake's "Free Ride", reputedly the only song of Nick's covered in his short lifetime. They celebrate 40 years since the release of "Tir na nOg" with some British dates, including a London appearance at The Borderline on Saturday 26 March. "Live At Sirius" can be found at www.leookelly.ie, while their other recordings,Tir na nOg, A Tear & A Smile, and Strong In The Sun, are now all on CD. You can communicate with Sonny and Leo on MySpace.

Tir na nOg will be supporting Jethro Tull at the Dublin show on March 18th. That will be nostalgic... nearly 40 years since they supported them Tir na nOg will be playing in Sheffield on Friday, March 25th at The Greystones and (as mentioned on this thread but just for one night) at The Borderline, London on the 26th March. (not 25th as well). There is a possibility of a third gig for the Sunday in Lancashire but too early to confirm.

My God Tull and Tir na Nog the same line up as my first concert in March (same month) 1972 - 39 years ago That can't happen that often can it - the same line after so long?

I first heard them on an old 'sampler' LP (remember those beasts?) called 'Clogs'. It seemed the done thing for record labels to put out samplers (a track each from sundry artists on their label - for those too young to know) - wasn't there one called 'El Pea'? Anyway... The T N N track was 'Our Love Will Not Decay' - simply wonderful! A Beautiful song - I played it, myself, for years!
Oddly enough, only a year or so ago, one of my later songwriting 'heroes' - one Stephen Fellowes, from Sheffield - did a version and put it up on his Myspace - and promptly reinvigorated my interest in all things T N N. Now I read about them here - thanks for posting the info! - Cheers!

Here's a copy of a short review I did for the CRS of their CD 'Live at Sirius'. Hope some of you get to see them in March. Apologies if I've over-saturated this thread - just very passionate about their music and excited that they're still doing the business Tir na nOg – Live at Sirius Dagger Records In 1971 Sonny Condell and Leo O’Kelly became Tir na nOg – an Irish folk duo singing songs that offered a lot more than the usual folk fayre. By their third album in 1974, some compositions had a definite rocky edge to them without losing the unique style established through the previous two albums. Whilst another studio album is extremely unlikely, this recording of a gig in August, 2009 is an excellent portrayal of their current activities. The quality of production, the intimacy of the venue and the technical balance of the vocals and guitars (with occasional violin and percussion) all contribute to a finished article that will sit proudly next to the original three. A majority of the seventeen songs are from the early days – ‘Two White Horses’, ‘Time is like a Promise’, ‘Dante’ and ‘Piccadilly’ all represent the slower flavour whilst ‘Looking Up’ and the cover of Nick Drake’s ‘Free Ride’ up the tempo. Compositions from their other musical careers intersperse the show – Leo’s ‘Venezuela’, a wonderfully weird song, and Sonny’s ‘Driving’ (accompanied by Leo on violin) both sit easily in the Tir na nOg repertoire. Their cover version of ‘Play with Fire’ (Jagger/Richards) is also a very welcome addition to the set This album is a ‘must’ for all Tir na nOg fans and an ideal first purchase for those who have not yet ventured into their world.
