Hi I'm a newbie here and it seems a great forum! I'm a professional guitarist based in London(mostly Jazz and classical stuff) and i have been into Tull since 1974--my first Tull gig was at the Manchester Apollo in Feb 1977. I am just wondering whether anybody knows whether there has ever been a score transcription made of A Passion Play?--ie all the parts written out--i've looked in vain on the web.I believe ' Passion' is truly one of the most profound muscial compositions(in any style!) ever written-- definitely IA's greatest achievement along with Thick as a Brick. Can anyone help with the musical dots?

Hello mrreinmhardtd, Here's a way of getting your wish. There's a really good midi of A Passion Play which was done by Adam Bodkin. It's at <http://web.agria.hu/kepenu/jethro.htm >. If you upload this midi into a tablature or transcription program you can view the midi as a transcription. I used the Tabledit program. Sometimes when you do this the guitar tablature may be inaccurate, with unreachable & awkward combinations of frets probably due to a missing capo position. However this is fixable with a bit of effort and the notation will be correct. Good luck!

If you have problems I think there is a way to get the score too. I did this a LONG time ago, but I'm pretty sure the original file in Noteworthy Composer format is on the web (look for NWC Scriptorium). One of these days I'll put it and all the other scores I did into Sibelius!

Just a hearty 'Hail Tull' and tip o' the hat to those of you who acknowledge Passion Play's singularity in the Tull catalog and the greater history of musical acheivement....This piece of music never gets old and never fails to amaze, each and every listen, quickening the heartbeat and making me feel lucky to walk the earth more or less contemporary to the composing and production of this masterpiece.

Thanks Maddog. I realised my post looks like I looked for the score! What I meant was, I was the one who transcribed the whole album into Noteworthy Composer, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask! Happy to see some people get something out of them occasionally .

After seeing this post, I downloaded Noteworthy Composer's free viewer, then from the "Scriptorium" (per Adam's cite), searching "Jethro Tull" and downloaded Adam's Transcriptions of both Passion Play and Thick As A Brick.
Loaded the GMV4ORCH bank into the Kurzweil (to avoid the typical computer GM soundset, set the synth to GM mode. The scores played perfectly!
Spectacula job Adam and thank you so much for sharing your hard work!
Scores are so much better than Midi files in for example Sibelius because they're instantly readable.
I'm very impressed with how good Adam's scores look in that free viewer.
Well worth the minutes to download the viewer and experience Adam's great work!

Could anyone give me a link to the APP and TaaB midi files? The link posted earlier in the thread isn't working for me. Very curious to see/hear these.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxv8eLbdUdIHey, someone took Adam Bodkin's hard work making Tull midi tracks, compiled them together, slapped some different midi instrument samples on them, and took credit for it! Not cool. I downloaded Bodkin's midi tracks years ago. Compared them to this newly updated video. Seems as though they were straight up copied and pasted (unless this new guy somehow recreated mistakes identical to the ones in Bodkin's versions magically.)

This is not the place for anyone not prone to genuflect at mention of 'APP'.

Well there you go. nothing is safe on the interwebs from stealing thieving hands, including the original works! :-) Hey, who am I to argue, even after what seems like a hundred years people are still finding stuff worth stealing from those old midi files. Ahh, those were the days :-D Glad people still like them! I studied your TAAB midi religiously. Helped me work out much of the first half of the album. I owe ya! Ever near Pittsburgh, Pa?
