There are an awful lot of covers of Tull stuff on the net, some of them good and some not so good. So if you find great Tull cover versions (and of course anything sooo bad it's great too!) post them here. I'll start with this, Joe Bonammassa's awesome cover of A New Day Yesterday... www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gBrLKFoTPo

Wow, excellent stuff! Wading through that lot will keep me busy for a while! If you are looking for more to add to your list Odin Dragonfly (Heather Findlay & Angela Gorgon of Mostly Autumn) have covered Witches Promise on their Offerings album. Next up is youtube guitar god Jack hicko's awesome run through of Salamander www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2m2JwY-qnE If you haven't seen this already you're in for a treat, I bow before this man. ;D

Jack Hicko...aka marksecunda...is my buddy. Anyone who plays excerpts from side 2 of A Passion Play is a die-hard Tullian to be sure, baby! LOL. I have a few Tull covers of my own posted. This is my cover of Wond'ring Aloud: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tGUP-rqwEgsI am in the midst of a giant collaboration with some of my friends from the online band EMP...we are working on side one of Thick As A Brick. It is about 2/3 completed at this time. When it is finished I will let you guys know...I am hoping to produce a video as well, but for now we are still working on building a good audio track.

In case you haven't seen my most recent myspace bulletin...I just posted this announcement: Coming Soon...Major Jethro Tull Cover Project Hello Friends,
About 4 years ago I undertook a major personal project...to record my own rendition of Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick. It took the better part of 3 months for me to produce it, but I have never been totally satisfied with the overall result.
Now, with a little help from my friends (pun intended) my version of TAAB is getting a major face-lift!!! YEA BABEEEEEEE! Certain members of EMP are assisting me with this project, and I have plans for a video to go along with it. Mark Estes is putting down some fresh (real) bass tracks for me, Mark DeGregory will be applying his expert percussive skills to it...although he doesn't know it (officially) yet...hehe...hi MarkD ...and Jak Wimmler, who has assisted me in other Tull covers, is providing his incredible Anderson-ish flute licks! I cannot tell you how excited I am about this! Ever since I started making music videos for posting online a couple of years ago, I have dreamed of doing this with TAAB!
Don't worry...it won't be the entire song. And for whatever reason, I just never got into much of side 2 of the album. So, this will be a somewhat truncated version of side 1...but a tad longer than Tull usually plays live these days...I think it will be about 14 or 15 minutes in duration and will probably be in 3 parts on video.
So...without any further ado...please enjoy a bit of Jak Wimmler's contribution to this effort...here is a link for a short clip of him playing the flute solo which comes at about the early mid-point of side 1.
GO JAK! YEA BAYBEEEE!!!

There are some really great musicians covering Tull, some of them better than others, and some of them make you want to go slap your granny. But Jack Hicko is one of those guys who plays Tull songs that few of the rest of us play, and he does so with the greatest integrity to the spirit of the original tunes. My friend Jack takes a lot of crap from people, but he just keeps right on doing his thing because most of those who publicly belittle him are basically showing that they are among the biggest idiots in the universe who don't have a clue about what they are talking about. Jack is one of my favorite guys on youtube because he has the brass to do what he does regardless of what people may think...and most of his viewers love his work.
One thing we need to do for Jack is get him some equipment so that he will have the capability to isolate himself into his own tracks while playing along with others...this is key to making good collaborations...hehe. HINT HINT!!! About a year ago we were tossing around doing a collaboration of Minstrel In The Gallery, which I have covered but wanted to replace myself with Jack on lead vocals and acoustic guitar...but since he is unable to isolate, we cannot get this project off the ground. So, if you feel so inclined to make a donation to the Jack Hicko Digital Work Station Fund...please contact us and we will accept PayPal donations...LOLOL. He could probably get by with a 4 channel unit...hehe.
pssssssssssttt....Jack...can I have your Bud Lite now??? LOL.

Seriously though, has he had real grief for doing his youtube Tull stuff? How can anyone who does not have a genuine affection for Jethro Tull's music have any sort of problem with that. Weirdos!

Unfortunately, no we live miles apart, but the world-wide-web brings us together in the digital realm... . EMP band members are: Mark Estes (co-founder) Bass - Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania David Presley (co-founder) Keyboards - Cape Coral, Florida (in the process of moving to LA, California very soon) Mark DeGregory - Drums & Percussion - W. Trenton, New Jersey Graham Seaman - Guitars/Vocals - Liverpool, UK Jak Wimmler - Flute (and he can play everything else too) - Austria Larry Curtis - Guitars/Vocals (and a few keyboards n such) - Houston, Texas Those involved with TAAB besides Jak and I are MarE (Bass) and MarkD (Drumz). Presently I am waiting for tracks from the two Marks... MarkD holds the record for having met the most members of our group in person. Graham was just here in the States and MarkD and he met at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC. I wanted to be there but work interfered...LOL. Damn that job of mine anyways...LOL. Mark has also met David Presley. Other than that, none of us have ever layed our natural eyes on each other. Lol, if I had one to give it would be his...and a worthy cause too! Seriously though, has he had real grief for doing his youtube Tull stuff? How can anyone who does not have a genuine affection for Jethro Tull's music have any sort of problem with that. Weirdos! Well, you know...there are your typical youtube "haters" who have nothing to do but go around being obnoxious. But there are also the musical Einsteins who are very critical of anything and everything about what you do for fun...as if we are doing this for money and we owe them a refund for stopping in and wasting their time...LOL. It just rips me sometimes to receive some of the comments I get...for example, a good many of those posting cover songs will play along with the original and just include themselves in the mix. I HATE THAT...but I never say anything bad about it because that's their level...or perhaps they lack the ability or knowledge to make their own tracks. I don't remember having EVER done anything that I did not make the backing for myself...oh but God Forbid that you get the tempo 2 bpm too fast or slow...you'll earn instant dirtbag status for that. LOL. Forget the fact that I just laid down a track that I played all of the instruments on, programmed the drumbeats, etc....HAHAHA. Jack handles his critics very well in this little clip...I revisit this one frequently just to keep my attitude on straight. Sometimes, however, you just can't help but to unload on some of these people simply for being freakin' goobers! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iLeuVilz9kA

Sounds like it's going to to really good Larry, definitely stick around and keep us posted on how it's going. And as for those freakin' goobers: that's 1-0 to Jacko Hicko I think, that video was excellent In fact I think we should all start a petition to get you & Jack a special guest slot each on the upcoming US dates. We has Paul Forrest from the Dayglo Pirates on a date over here and it was good fun. Then those 'haters' will really be throwing their toys out of the pram!

WOW, thanks for the thought...I would be happy just to jam along during their sound checks. If I had to stand in front of one of their audiences (with their expectations, something I know because I am the same) my knees would probably buckle under from the pressure...LOL. It would be interesting though.

...and now my Tascam cassette portastudio broke, so I don't even have analog multitrack capability. What I really need is a Los Angeles collaborator, but no one here has even heard of Jethro Tull! If anyone is interested, meet me at the august 17 show at the Greek Theater. -jhicko PS does everyone have that Tull Cover album with the original band plus Keith Emerson?

I have consistently enjoyed the Jack Hicko Tull covers on 'You Tube'. To a song, well done and visibly linked to the spirit of the music. Anyone under say, about 5 feet 6 inches and not in good shape, is welcome to come to my house to get their butts kicked for teasing him.

And speaking of Jack Hicko.... I saw Jack's video of Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square posted on his youtube account and gave it a listen. I was duly impressed (as usual) and posted a comment to that effect. He follows up with something really cute like..."yea this is a fun song to play on the flute and bass as well..." Of course I haven't quite figured out if that was a challenge or just a passing remark (knowing Jack it may well have been an unbridled dare), so I took it as a challenge. I snagged his video from youtube and copied the audio track, which I emailed straight away to my buddy Jak Wimmler in Austria..."Hey Jak, do you reckon you could play the flute part on this song and send me your track?" By the next day I had it with the comment..."At first I was going to break out the original and refresh my memory but this Jack Hicko version was so good that it just brought it all out of me...so I pressed the record button and that's what you have." He later acknowledged that he now realizes a few spots where he played it differently from the original, but to that I say "BIG FAT DEAL!!!" I sat down with the tracks from Jack and Jak and figured out how to play the bass parts...although I will flat out admit that I KNOW I didn't nail Glen's chops and didin't really expect that I would. But I got all of the big pieces in order . And I switched my Boss DR-880 program over to bongos and banged out some bongos and tambourine. Mixed my parts with Jak's flute and Jack's mando....and then re-applied the new audio track to Jack's original video. (Insert drum roll here please) And now I present to you....Jack Hicko, with Jak Wimmler and Larry Curtis....Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square. If you haven't already seen this, I hope you enjoy it...and even if you've already seen it I hope you'll enjoy it again. LC uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qxNO8i4U7Wo

This is nice, an instrumental version of wond'ring aloud by a chap called Rob Martino on the chapman stick (which IMO is a horrible name for an instrument that makes such a nice noise)

Hey Col ( which I KNOW is shorthand for Cool), I don't know why I wonder (Aloud) but I wonder...if we view a you tube clip via Tull forum style...when you post it with the button in the middle of the screen...does it count as a 'hit' on the video for those who tote up or notice those kind of things? Very important ? no?...anyway,,,the C stick video was nice...thanks.
