Well where do I start... I have to say that I have come back deflated.
I am asking questions to myself, have I been too many times?, Is Ian's voice restraining the bands performance therefore making the sound a tad boring, or was it the audience not feeding the bands energy?
I just don't know! or was it the fact that it was monday night?
Who knows, but this was the feeling after the concert. which is a real shame because they played really well. The arrangements were great, Ian was in good form though I did detect a slight mood, his voice was shot but I know there is a separate issue with this so I'll avoid it for now.
Dunringill, started the set which for me was actually the highlight of the evening, including the seaside effects etc.
I loved the included interchange with Martins Mandola.
The other Highlights were Bouree and Fat Man.
His new stuff I couldn't get on with. I felt it dragged on for too long which I think killed the concert. Really Budapest was enough for that sort of thing.
Now some of you reading this will probably not like what I am saying, but I really felt tired after the concert, something sapped the energy.
I am not saying that Tull were rubbish or that they have had their day, I just felt that something major was missing, I think it may be the setlist, possibly the wrong combination.
Just one thing I hated was Songs from the Wood, he needs to abolish that from the set immediately!! I saw it on You Tube and I saw it tonight, it was embarracing! the harmonies that were pre-recorded sounded awful. the arrangement for me was not good.
You can see why there is a limited set list of songs because it is a set list chosen for Ian's voice alone.
Also the impression I got was the fact that the Accordian and the 'Water Carrier' song gave way to the solo style of Anderson interrupting the rock Tull side of things, which I think really confused matters.
Even one of the balloons popped too early at the end which for me summed things up.
I am completely 50 / 50 on this one. One half of me loved the fact that I saw him and the band and the other was a deflation.
I hope that isn't the case for the rest of the tour.
