...it's only solataire". I'm almost sure he's acrtic who panned "Passion Play" but I'd like to know his last name and any more specifics (eg the publication, the date, etc.) Would love to read his whole review. The only music critic whom I've heard IA refer to about the same thing was Chris Hillman? of the LA Times? Anyone know? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jethro_Tull_%28band%29"Only Solitaire", allegedly aimed at L.A. Times rock music critic Robert Hilburn[citation needed], who was one of Anderson's harsher critics. ***However, Only Solitaire & Skating Away are connected to APP and were salvaged from the Chateau D'Herouville sessions. Predating any possible connection to the criticism of APP>Solitaire was incorrectly assumed by many to be aimed at the critics who savaged APP the year before. - per David Rees

And is it the same 'Steve' that, i am told, is mentioned during the outro of Passion Play...even tho I have always been convinced he is either saying: snake, coward...or ...hate, power....but i have been told over and over he is saying 'hey steve'...and something else...anyone REALLY know?

www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/app/steve.htm The only significant music critic named Steve (at least the only one remembered today), to whom Ian might have been referring was Steve Peacock, of Sounds magazine. According to the official lyrics book, Peacock was 'Steve' in 'Solitaire. # Peacock did indeed write a distinctly hostile article, highlighting the lack of spontaneity in Tull's stage show (the central point of 'Solitaire'), published in the 11 March 1972 issue. Beginning "One of the most disillusioning experiences of my musical life...", the full text of the piece is available from Tullpress, here. JETHRO'S HOLLOW THREAT www.tullpress.com/s11mar72.htm

Thanks for the info and links to a bit of pleasant review homework at Tullpress....God I love people who can say 'tremendous certainty over this indistinct line'...in a discussion about Tull...in a perfect universe this level of Tull polemics would be required at all schools and universities.

"Sealion" always appeared to me to be directed sarcastically at the critics of PP, too. "There is no business like the show we're in.."
"...No reason to leave the circus..."
" You (other Tull members) bark ever so slightly at the trainer's (Ian) gun"
