Jack Bruce has been given a Doctorate by Caledonian Uni for his contribution towards music. scotland.stv.tv/greatest-scot/107823-scottish-university-honours-cream-bassist-jack-bruce/This story was told to me ages ago... "In 1980 in Glasgow there was a bloke who used to have a four track in his spare room and would do tapes for up and coming young musicians ( at a cheap rate) ;D One day the next door neighbour, a wee woman, came in and saw us with the guitars in Joes front room ( you had to wait your turn downstairs) We thought she was coming in to complain about the noise! Then she say's "Oh my son's a musician" Humouring her we said "Oh really? Who's he with?" Well, Cream, Blind Faith etc....." Jack Bruces's mother!!

Jack Bruce was one of the musicians involved in what, for me, was one of the most surreal concerts I ever attended. The date was 6 November 1967, the venue was the Silver Blades Ice Rink in south London (known to us locals just as Streatham Ice Rink) and the group was Cream. It was sparsely attended and the sight, and sounds, of Cream playing Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Crossroads et al to a few bored skaters remains indelibly stamped on my memory. I sat at the side of the open stage (no concert security in those days) trying to fathom out how Eric Clapton got the sound from his guitar, alas to no avail. Never did learn how to skate properly - constantly seemed to fall over on my a**e a lot ;D
