Into March and no dates announced for UK Tour except Ian's solo run in London. Anyone find this strange ? Usually dates announced by now. Beginning European Tour in a few days.

Hmm i found this very strange too. I was talking to one of my mates today and they have heard that there will be no UK tour this year. All there will be is about 2 Tull concerts and 1 Ian Anderson solo date in the UK. The interesting thing is that they also said that Tull are headlining Weyfest this year. Blodwyn Pig are already confirmed to play at the festival, so it ought to be great. I hope it is true about Tull headlining. On the Weyfest website it says headliner to be announced. If it's Tull then i'm deffinately going. Has anyone else heard about this?

I've just found out that Tull will be headlining Weyfest this year. Excellent, thanks for the tip off. We have been pretty spoiled with alot of UK Tull dates over the last few years so it doesn't surprise me that there probably wont be a big UK tour this year.

Weyfest have now announced on their website that Tull are headlining the festival this year and the box office is now open! www.weyfest.co.ukNot too sure why Weyfest didn't announce this earlier because the Tull announcement was made on a new day website earlier this month. Anyway if you want to check it out here is the link: www.anewdayrecords.co.uk/

Excellent. That's only a couple of hours down the road from me too. I see The fancy Toys are playing on the same day too so I imagine it will be James Duncan on the drums for that show. I must confess I'm not too bowled over by the rest of the line up so it may be turn up for Tull and go home for me!
Shame Blodwyn Pig aren't on the Saturday night too.

Hi tickets for Buxton available on line , Last night got centre row G wanted front row but after discussion with box office was satisifed. Front rows avaialble by phone but they did not recommend front row as it is AN OLD THESTRE WITH STAGE VERY HIGH anything before G therefore not so great website sells only G onwards. They said that G was the best in the house so I would recommend their advice rather than getting front row

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna book my tickets for Buxton tonight. I know the stage there is very high indeed as i have performed there in the past. It's a nice venue though.

Quizz , It seems that the NME might be right in some way . Below is the information for the tour on Buxton opera house website
'The only original member of Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson remains synonymous with the band. Now, after 40 years of leading Tull, Ian Anderson brings his new acoustic tour to old and new friends alike. With a band consisting of German guitar virtuoso Florian Opahle, pianist and accordionist John O’Hara, bassist David Goodier, drummer Mark Mondsir and special guests, Ian will play Tull acoustic classics as well as other specially-rearranged Tull rock material (such as Thick As A Brick and Aqualung) and, in addition, some new material specially written for these tours. Drawing on folk, classical, rock and jazz music styles, Ian blends elements of many world music cultures to delight his fans. Throw away the ear-plugs, sit back, relax and savour Anderson’s musical smorgasbord. '
New material ? New drummer with a jazz CV ?

Cool looks like he can play, never heard of him, although I do not think there is a jazz drummer under the age of 45, and then only Marsalis' guy Jeff "Tain" Watts comes to mind. And there was another guy playin in RT's band from Austin about 10 years ago who may be that young and clearly had jazz chops. There could well be lots of good new guys but compared to what came before them in jazz...i doubt it. Interesting though that the guy, (who if God asked me who was the best drummer of these humans, and putting aside emotional attachments to the drummers of Jethro Tull, the Beatles and the Grateful Dead), I would likely mark as the best, the late Tony Williams, apparently had a very high opinion of this guy. BTW that was an absolutely excellent website, I don't know if they missed anyone, very thorough. Especially enjoyed the page for Mickey Hart, including the intro said something about having been one of the drummers in an experience centered on the heart of music and spirit disguised as a rock and roll band, somethin like that, and the Ringo page which managed to have some Beatles shots I have not seen.

Interesting news re. the Maryport Festival which the last I heard was still going ahead.
Just to recap, this is the blurb from their website:
The 11th Maryport Blues Festival takes place over the weekend of July 24th, 25th & 26th July 2009, when the small Cumbrian harbour town of Maryport will once again be alive with the best in blues music.
This year, over 40 bands and 150 individual musicians from all over the globe will be performing in the main stage marquee, in the pubs and clubs and on an outdoor stage and on the street, to thousands of visitors from all over the UK.
Headliners are Jethro Tull, John Mayall, Taj Mahal and are supported by Ruby Turner and The Blues Band amongst many others.
but they also have the following:
The BBC are recording at this years festival for a 2 hr Maryport Special on the Radio 2 Paul Jones R&B Show on August Bank Holiday Monday. Tracks from the festival will also be featured in the Paul Jones shows in August as the Special approaches and advance coverage of the Maryport line-up will given in the shows leading up to the festival at the end of July.
so it is possible that Tull will feature on this radio programme as well.
If anyone can confirm if this festival is still going ahead or has any further news please post. Thanks.

As far as I know Maryport is definitely a goer. Spoke to a lady at the ticket office about the alleged funding problems and she told me that this year was covered, but next year was in doubt. I believe Paul Jones is actually playing at the Festival, so recording some of it would make sense for his Radio 2 Blues show. Another interesting point is that although Tull are 'headlining' the Friday night, they are not the last on the bill! Must be past their bed-times or something. Anyway, its about an hour down the road from me so I'm hoping to be there

Martin Barre is going to play the "Excalibur" show in Germany on 24. and 25. July, so I´m sure that Florian Ophale will play the Jethro Tull gigs in England. www.excalibur-show.com

Maryport, 24/7/09
Deliberately set off late, as I only wanted to see the Tull set. As I got into the Marquee they were changing over the stage gear. Spoke to Martin Webb at the AND stall, who thought Tull might be coming on earlier than the 9.30 slot planned. Also spoke to a lady from Radio 2, but she assured me that none of Tull's set was being recorded by them. As Webby predicted, the band (IA, DG, JoH, Florian O and Mark M) kicked off at about 9.15 with the shrill cry of 'Mary!'. Full set list: Cross Eyed Mary, Beggar's Farm, Serenade to a Cuckoo, Someday the Sun, Farm on the Freeway, Heavy Horses, Mother Goose, Bouree, Dharma, Thick as a Brick, Aqualung, Loco Breath. They overran by a few minutes, and had no break for the 'encore', so they crammed all that into 1h 20mins. Ian's vocals were top notch and he dedicated 'Farm' to the three fishermen from Maryport who died at the start of the week, Mark's solo in Dharma was tremendous, they got an excellent reception from the whole crowd. None of my pics were much cope as was either miles back or extreme stage right, sorry. Great gig though ;D

Great gig though ;D I'm glad you enjoyed it I never knew much about this one in Cumbria I just googled and they say that there was about 40 bands and 150 musicians. It's good that these venues exist all over - small town/village even large farm and not just in the bright lights of the city. Cumbria is lovely - when it stops raining ! I like the opening song for Maryport and the dedication afterwards. Soooo glad the band sound well. Thanks Neil
