Was just listening to “When the Man Comes Round” by Johnny Cash. It’s such a powerful song on many levels…even vocally. He speaks in his low baritone voice and sings partially through the song. This is exactly how Ian should start recording his songs. No more high pitches and certainly none of the falsetto stuff. Nice LOW baritone vocals and lots of acoustic guitar. I’m hoping that the next album gets back to using a lot of acoustic guitar juxtaposed against the heavy electric passages which always made Tull so special. Limit the keyboard solos…Not a huge O’Hara fan. For instance he absolutely butchers the live opening piano in LB adding all the extra unnecessary notes. I was taken back listening to the beginning tapes of Ian on acoustic guitar (Homo Erraticus) that were sent to the band and how little they added. I’m hoping Joe shows a little more creativity and changes that up. The acoustic tapes of Ian doing all of those songs on his acoustic guitar was arguably better than the finished product.

I love the last albums Johnny Cash did, all those cover versions, some were absolutely superb. The one you mentioned along with Hurt, One, Personal Jesus, Solitary Man, I Hung my Head, he made those songs his own, and the guitar sound in all those songs, some by Tom Petty, was so good. Ian is such a fine acoustic guitarist I agree with you 100%
