Horton Hears A Who.....
is great, go see it even if you don't have little ones! I was expecting it to be terrible but it's actually really good.

Concur with you about Horton. I took the wee lass and was expecting to bored sh*tless, but the banter was excellent. I must admit I liked Hot Fuzz too, although not a patch on Shaun of the Dead. Recently discovered 'The Big Lebowski' - now that's a funny film ;D

The Curse of The Golden Flower
with a cast of 20 zillion and amazing setting of the imperial palace it does have a Daft ending as do all such Chinese films... but superb filming and wow those Ninja's.... Man are they inscrutable or what Spectacular battle scenes. and a look at China's happy family of rulers

Hell I must be the only one watching films... But from 2002 - TRAPPED with Charlize Theron, Courtney Love, Stuart Townsend & Kevin Bacon is well worth a watch

Watched Schindler's List again last night. IMO a first rate film. Never actually seen Schindlers List, I must get round to watching that someday. I've only heard good things about it. I saw I Am Legend last night and thought it was a real dissappointment. It started off okay and I liked the what would you do if you were the last man on earth idea behind it but when it turned into a dodgy Zombie film it all went horribly wrong for me. If you fancy something a bit different and don't mind subtitles one of my favourite ever films is the French movie Amelie. A work of art.

Good film "The Omega Man". Remember seeing it when it first came out, as a support to some major film which turned out to be sh**e. How about "The Life of Brian". 'He's been a very naughty boy . . . . .'

It's a great moment when you can start watching films with your kid and not barf, moan, weep or nod off...though i am still slated for many hours of Dora, Barney, Wiggles ( I have a friend who swears they're not gay) and worse, I have been blessed with palatable moments with Sponge Bob, The Rugrats and especially Shrek.

Don't forget steelmonkey that this is only the start. As your kid becomes adult and eventually has kids of his/her own you'll have to start watching the kid's shows, or their equivalent, all over again. Think of it as a pleasurable pastime to contemplate for your old age.

Hot Fuzz was great! (big Simon Pegg fan here) Speaking of which, I recently saw Run Fatboy Run. Pretty good. I give it a 3 out of 4 Guinesses.

I just watched Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, don't know if it was one of his "mixed reactions" films or not but I thought it was really well made. The costumes and sets were brilliant ok it cherry picked from a mixture of Mayan/Aztec history and no doubt took a bit of a jump in realism but then I suppose it wasn't meant to be a documentary. i41.images obliterated by tinypic/2vrz77m.jpg[/IMG]

You've peaked my curiosity. I should see this....first, because of what you've said about it.
Second, because my kids are half Guatemalan. In fact, my eldest has been in Guatemala the last ten days on a half vacation/half study trip with her anthropology teacher.
They come back tomorrow. Maybe I'll get this movie for her......

Gosh hope they enjoy it now that I've publicised it Let me know what they think of it either way Sounds a great trip that they are on - don't our kids get around the globe ? My daughter went around the world on a cheap student's ticket. Had to laugh at one of her telephone calls back home to Mum. " Hi it's me.. I got updated to first class on the flight to Singapore from New Zealand. I was sitting with feet up on 3 seats, sipping champagne looking down at Bali..byee"

It is amazing the traveling they do. I had to wait til they were old enough to go places, and here I see things when I'm in my 40's and they're not even in their teens yet! Now they're going all over the place by themselves. My eldest (again) spent 6 weeks in the summer on an archaeological dig in Ireland...Ballinafad. Your daughter's story....that's pretty cute. Lucky duck!

Just watched The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas on dvd thought it done the book justice and the acting from the two wee boys and David Thewlis as Bruno's father was excellant! Son is doing the book at school in English and even turned his head away from the playstation to make informed comments - job well done !

STAR TREK went to see it last night, always been a bit of a trek follower [not quite a trekkie - can't speak klingon ] Thought it was a great prequel to the original series....but without the mobile cardboard backdrops, great casting in most of the major roles. although the Engineer in me has doubts to the validity of Montgomery Scott's equation for trans-warp beaming as the warp factor of the destination target starship must need to be a known quantity if beaming is to be successful...logical? ;D anyone else seen it?

No but I've seen very good reviews. Is Simon Pegg in it as Scotty ? How does that work? mind you am I right in thinking the original Scotty wasn't a Scot ?

Yep, went and saw it today and thoroughly enjoyed it - only, I was just a little disappointed because I kept hearing it was the origin story and instead it was an alternate reality! We still don't know the beginnings of the group from the show, and I would like to. But still, quite excellent. I thought Kirk and Spock especially did an amazing job of taking those roles and, without doing some sort of phony imitation, taking them over in an authoritative way. I think they had to walk a really delicate line. I guess the only one I didn't care for was Checkov, whose accent was even more ridiculous than the original! Yep, Simon Pegg is Scottie, and did it in a very Simon Pegg way, which I think worked well enough. Did you go see Wolverine, Quizz? I had a comment to make about that, but can't remember what. Just watched the end of the third X-Men movie on TV... And don't worry, there's still time to learn klingon. It'll be very challenging, though! www.slate.com/id/2217815/

There's a British film I really like called Stuart: A Life Backwards. It's a seriously under-rated film. I've got it on DVD, and I'd recommend buying it to anyone, you should be able to get it on ebay, but probably only a region 2 version, so if you don't live in Britain you'll need a DVD player that plays all regions. I've found a version of it to watch online, but the quality isn't that good. Here's the link to it anyway: www.cambridgelinkup.org.uk/pages/stuart.phpI hope you guys enjoy it, I know I did, God knows how many times I've seen this film now. It's a really sad true story that deeply moved me, but also made me laugh hysterically in places, and Tom Hardy's performance as Stuart Shorter is one of the best I've ever seen. If anyone wants any more recommendations from me, I'd be happy to share my favourites with you guys. You'll get a few you've never seen before from me anyway - that's a guarantee. Naturally, I will expect the favour to be returned! I'll give almost any film a try. Bring 'em on. Cheers.

The last few praiseworthy movies that i watched include "Paris, Je T'aime", "I heart Huckabees", "The Royal Tenenbaums", "Leolo", some Hercule Poirot adaptations and "whatever works"(because Larry David and Woody Allen are two of my favorite comedians).

Just watched this on blu ray i26.images obliterated by tinypic/264j3fp.jpg[/IMG] (spoiler)www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/I don't watch a lot of sci fi but I loved this it was dark like Aliens and really beautifully filmed. The shanty alien town was raw and gritty and the subtle and not so subtle comparisons of human life and the apartheid of S Africa, it's set in Joburg, was really clever and original. A bit bloody at times but definately worth watching. Ps It is sci fi - so don't watch it with a "lets look at all the facts here" partner

Lawrence of Arabia
And some actual footage of T E Lawrence I found. He's always been a "hero" of mine since I studied his life at school.
