Ian Anderson comments of the [title] track:
“The title track offers many allusions to the radical, politically-charged world of populism in leadership. As a song lyric, it sums up, for me, the divisive nature of societal relationships and the extreme views which fuel the fires of hate and prejudice, more so today perhaps, than at any time in history. Perhaps you think you know who I might have been thinking about here but, in reality, there are probably right now at least five prominent, dictatorial national figures who could fit the bill.”
Video directed by Sam Chegini

Looks as though the more "collectable" vinyl editions are already sold out if the Burning Shed site is correct and I would think their main objectives will now be on shifting the single cd editions

Ian should layer his voice for the whole song. Not just bits lol

Ian should layer his voice for the whole song. Not just bits lol Ian isn’t close to having the majestic powerhouse vocals he could once deliver but still his voice resonates with me and is certainly distinct and always welcomed in my world.

Sad City Sisters315 views Dec 7, 2021 Jethro Tull 142K subscribers Definately the best song ive heard so far out of the 3 ,does resemble SLOB styled songs but i think this suits Ian down to the ground.

I don’t mind the title track but prefer Shoshanna. I don’t really like Sad city though

I don't hear any melody in the vocals on any of the three tracks. They are all similar in the instrumental sound too, I hope there is a big difference on the rest of the album, although I'm not confident given that these tracks are promoting the album, they should be the strongest surely?

According to Ian and record company the singles released are being used as teasers and we’re not the strongest tracks. Ian didn’t agree with the choices. Also I disagree that they all sound alike. I find them quite diverse. I like Ian’s vocals on all three tracks and also quite like all three songs.

I liked the title track a lot more now that I have heard the real version rather than thin you tubes. Shoshona took many listens to sink in but then I came to really like it. Sad Sisters landed fast and is pretty, pretty good...ZG is very very very good and I ended up listening multiple times the first day I had access. My anticipation for this album grows and my appreciation of NEW TULL at this late date is nothing less than a silver lining in pretty crappy times. California remains hostage to bastard Covid.

Looking back on first impression of new songs, I have finally learned it will take some time. I so didn't like: Bungle, Minstrel, North Sea Oil, all of TOTRARTYTD (except Big Dipper), This is not Love and Doggerland at first listens. All songs i came to love and appreciate. On the other hand, I accept that as a Tull fan, every album that isn't 'A Passion Play' will have some disappointment.

Was holding back in saying anything negative about the songs but I am in agreement with you regards the three tracks. The three tracks all sound similar and don't really go anywhere. Its obvious that Ian is having to squeeze the words out, and this puts him slightly behind the beat. I remember in the old days I would hear a new song and couldn't wait to hear it again to "unlock" it with further plays. There is nothing here to unlock. I have only played each a couple of times and I'm not lured back. Apart from the fading voice (which cant be helped) I think the compositions in the last few albums probably suffer because of the way he now writes, sitting down on an arranged date and forcing himself to write. The ambiguity of the lyrics are missing , the songs don't invite us in to the story anymore to make our own mind up, they are more a series of facts (as IA sees them) I don't expect past glories, and I'm so glad we have new music from our hero, and I'm sure Ill find something to enjoy when the whole album arrives. I think though it will be like "Brick2" and "HE" for me, just played occasionally.
