I once dreamt a new Jethro Tull album cover, but upon reflection it wasn't new, it was an inversion of an existing Tull cover. I saw a solid black cover with the band name and album name in raised digital red letters, kind of an inversion of the totally white cover style for "Repeat - The Best Of Jethro Tull - Vol.2". And I'm still looking for the Tull song I'm sure I heard on the radio once, a song with the lines "It doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what you are", or something like that, and I've heard every single Tull song released and that particular song is not released by Tull. It was not a live song, it was a studio recording. Still stumped on that one. Maybe there's a band out there who in the late 70's or early 80's released a song with flute and a vocalist imitating Ian's style? I was a big Tull fan then, and I was squirming in my hair cutting seat thinking "what the hell is that, I've never heard that". It was a very well-performed tune. I should have contacted the radio station. Confused in Seattle. Have you heard “ It All Trickles Down?” It’s a somewhat obscure Tull song that has some lyrics that could vaguely be associated with the phrase you quoted...something like “would be the one, the tea on toast, would be the one the Holy Ghost. Would be the Mad Jack to your Queen of Spades” etc. Jethro Tull - It All Trickles Down 19993,356 viewsJul 13, 2016 Remy Tena 23.8K subscribers From Dot Com album.1999. Info: to promote this album Jethro Tull released an EP this month: "It All Trickles Down" in the UK only. The release is limited to 5000 copies only. It also features edited versions of "DotCom" and "Bends Like A Willow". A copy from this was given to me by a good friend who works in a known Catalan radio during the promotion of the album Dot Com in 1999. Lyrics: It All Trickles Down There's a dragon-tail swishing behind tonight. Poison's rising. I'm up too tight. I might not be responsible for the things that I might do. My tanks are full and my dogs are loose. Bees in my bonnet. Stew in juice. Sauté-simmer, shallow-fry when it all trickles down to you. It all trickles down. Yes it all trickles down. Well it all trickles down, from me to you. My day was rough, don't care about yours. I put muddy feet on your polished floor. A goose to cook, a job that I'm well qualified to do. And it all trickles down. Yes it all trickles down. Well it all trickles down from me to you. Would be the one, would be the tea on toast. Would be the Son, would be the Holy Ghost. If this is not believable then you've just had one too few. Would be the mad Jack to your Queen of Spades. A little Mac in your burger trade. One dead-cert consequence -- it all trickles down to you. And it all trickles down. Yes it all trickles down. Well it all trickles down from me to you. There's a dragon-tail swishing behind tonight. Well it all trickles down, from me to you. www.tullianos.com/Best Jethro Tull Forum: jethrotull.proboards.com/Info: Thanks to Cup Of Wonder ?http://www.cupofwonder.com/dotcom.html

"Shoshana Sleeping" Sleep: the time's not yet Early birds soon crowing Wake when dawn declares Woman risen from childish airs I watch, across the room Dancing shadow, torch outside Lights path down cobbled lane Which I have walked, will walk again Sweet field lily, sweet Shoshana Names to conjure fragrant danger Fingers tremble, trace the line From nape to sacrum down the spine Poisoned prize a trophy Freely taken, hardly won A minute, holds back hours Bud emboldened, forest flowers Moist under my hand She sleeps; breath comes quickly A sigh parts silky lips Soft-swell breasts, proud golden tips Sweet field lily, sweet Shoshana Names to conjure fragrant danger My fingers tremble, trace the line From nape to sacrum down the spine Sweet sadness fills my heart Offered chances best not taken Unsullied, no vain glory: Chapter, verse, another story Brushed eyelids gently closed Beauty framed in dawn-light Savoured moment blessed A kiss, farewell, and leave to rest Sweet field lily, sweet Shoshana Names to conjure fragrant danger My fingers tremble, trace the line From nape to sacrum down the spine

Yep, still, The Engineer sounds like a better song overall to my ears I must respectfully disagree. This song sounds more relevant, more contemporary. Lyrics are fantastic. Really great and better than anything on HE except maybe Cold Dead Reckoning. Love it!

Thanks for posting this EKA. Sounds similar to songs on the HE album to me... the least favourite of my Tull / IA albums.

The vocal processing and multitracking sounds really cool. Toggling between the two youtube videos above (Shoshana Sleeping and The Engineer) it was really noticeable how different the vocal styles contrasted. Raw, croacking it out versus the layered sound. Definitely strong lyrics. Pretty good song. I just hope this isn't the best song on the album. The single from HE is one of my least favorite Ian songs, while there were so many great songs on HE. So I hold hope there is some great stuff on this one.

I absolutely loved the artwork for Homo Erraticus. Not so sure about this one. The difference between art studio and homemade I suppose. Seems like so many years ago when that came out. Different job, house, woman, dog. A different life. Listening to it takes me back down the years, indeed.
Thoughts on the artwork?

I'd give the artwork 8 out of 10 especially for the simplistic style which, many instances, seems the norm nowadays. The demos are going to be an interesting listen as well.

ultimateclassicrock.com/jethro-tull-the-zealot-gene/The first track from the album, "Shoshana Sleeping," can be heard down below. Work on The Zealot Gene began in 2017, with a planned release last year. Then lockdown restrictions pushed the date back, while also scuttling Jethro Tull’s touring plans. "It was so sudden," Ian Anderson said in a press release. "Amidst the concerns and warnings of the scientific community and a few more enlightened politicians, we all retreated in disbelief to our homes to wait out the storm." According to Anderson, The Zealot Gene pulls from a variety of Biblical themes and ideas. "While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale story-telling of the Holy Book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text," he said. "The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness.” The Zealot Gene will be available in both CD and vinyl format. An exclusive art book will also be released, along with a second CD of demos and initial ideas, plus extended liner notes and an interview with Anderson. A deluxe version comes on white vinyl and includes a slipmat and a numbered art print.

On first listen to the new track, I was excited as I always still am with any new release. I fear its a song that will fade quickly though based as it is on a repetitive flute riff. I look forward to the new album, though my expectations aren't very high. I expect another H.E. ,which although I was glad of (and pleased Ian is still making music), isn't an album I revisit much. Id love to be wrong though.

The artwork appears to me like home made stuff from Ian...pretty amateurish, although the basic artwork idea might be just fine. I will be hugely surprised if it turns out that I'm wrong...

I wonder what effect the album cover artwork has on the album sales. I thought the HE Album cover was interesting & well done and I think the album sold well initially. Not sure if anyone has compared album sales to the cover artwork - would be interesting to see, for example, how Broadsword sold as its cover was more interesting than most. The music on that album was probably more "user friendly" to the general public too (can't think to the right words for that).
The cover of the new album looks okay to me but can't see it improving sales of the album..

I love the new song, very good indeed, and I have good expectations about the album! But I think I will not preorder it: when I did it, with last 2 albums by non EU bands, they took a very long time to deliver, and they also asked a 5 EUR tax to the post office. I will buy on amazon when it is available, instead. My only fear is that the deluxe CD edition may not be available later on.

The artwork is very good... I like most the one shaded in blue, which is showed in a video on youtube rather than the B/W one. But is it suitable for a Jethro Tull album? It really looks like the cover art of a solo album. The video is hypnotizing, interesting and disturbing! I love it. However if some day Ian wants a video for a song with the animated cats I will make it for free for him.

ramzine.co.uk/news/jethro-tull/Jethro Tull… And The Zealot Gene!By Paul H Birch November 7, 2021 Jethro Tull photo by Travis Latam.Legendary British progressive rock act Jethro Tull has announced details for the group’s first studio album of new material in over 18 years! The band’s newest offering, titled The Zealot Gene, will see a January 28th, 2022 release on Inside Out Music. To give Tull fans their first taste of the new record, the group has released the first single from the album, titled ‘Shoshana Sleeping’, accompanied by visuals created by Thomas Hicks. A record that began to take shape as early as 2017, The Zealot Gene, in many ways, seeks to defy convention during a time when the business of being a touring and recording artist has never faced more uncertainties. Tull bandleader Ian Anderson holds no reservations about the role for which the mythos and themes of Biblical storytelling played in the lyrical content of the new album, having stated: “While I have a spot of genuine fondness for the pomp and fairytale storytelling of the holy book, I still feel the need to question and draw sometimes unholy parallels from the text. The good, the bad, and the downright ugly rear their heads throughout, but are punctuated with elements of love, respect, and tenderness.” Looking back on the earth-shaking disruption of the coronavirus pandemic, that ultimately ended the band’s touring plans and hopes of a 2020 release for The Zealot Gene, Anderson said, “It was so sudden. Amidst the concerns and warnings of the scientific community and a few more enlightened politicians, we all retreated in disbelief to our homes to wait out the storm.”
