Thanks for the update maddogfagin. Must be strange for Jack to be called up and then be without his Albion colleague on stage. It's embarrassing to say the least... What the feck is going on At a guess, covid perhaps.

It sounds as if Joe Parrish caught Covid shortly before the Israel concerts. If it was the case that it was very "last moment" then it must be a very difficult decision whether to cancel the concerts or play them. I guess they probably had flights, accommodation & internal Israel transport booked as well as lighting, sound equipment, etc. etc. I read today that "Yes" has cancelled their concerts for the rest of this year due to ongoing problems caused by Covid.
I mentioned the Newcastle City Hall concert where Martin Barre was thought to be unavailable as he was at the hospital. At the time some folk thought they should cancel the concert and reschedule it but the concert hall was almost full. Personally I was quite happy to see the rest of the band live though I thought they would probably have to change the set list and have a more acoustic set. There was no mention of having a "ghost" guitarist as in Israel though. It seems most on here seem to think the Israel concerts should have not gone ahead?

I'm a lifetime Tull fan but that is outrageous is it not

I think that harm has been done to the Tull brand and that the music press might hammer IA for this

Question :What is worse than Jethro Tull without Martin Barre on guitar? Answer: Jethro Tull with no guitar player at all!
This really is plumbing new depths. I really cant find the words to express my feelings at IA going out as "Tull" without a guitarist? Combine this with the wretched vocals which have been served up for years and its a sad,sad demise. Embarrassed on his behalf. There is no Tull ,simply IA and anyone else he chooses (or in this case nearly no one else!). Supposedly a perfectionist, has no one close to him the balls to tell him how bad its become? Meantime the legend himself erodes the legend., made even worse by resurrecting The Tull name. No doubt we will get the usual grumpy old man wordy justification for doing it. IA has said for some time he is doing it for himself and anyone who doesn't like it can stay away........ I certainly will.
In my time, when Tull could do no wrong I always feared a time when there would be no Tull and leave a musical gap in my life. I never dreamed that I would be begging for IA to stop. I'm now very seriously thinking the time is right to part with my collection of Tull memorabilia because keeping it somehow makes me feel part of this sad affair (not logical I know!),and I feel the need to finally let go. Dreadful abuse of fan loyalty , knowing some will continue to buy pricey tickets and anything Tull related ( Expensive cover art print anyone?.. a lyric book?).I've always been suspicious of the the "clockwork "visual backdrop diversion as to how "live" it is any more anyway, at best its playing by numbers with absolutely no space for spontaneity or improvisation. The sad legacy will be curious music fans in the future seeing footage and thinking WTF?

www.livedesignonline.com/news/gustavo-boetti-and-fumasoli-audio-light-rental-support-visual-imagery-jethro-tulls-italianGustavo Boetti And Fumasoli Audio & Light Support Jethro Tull’s Italian Shows With CHAUVET ProfessionalBy PR/Agency UserApr 22, 2022 04:10pm (chauvet professional)AOSTA, ITALY - Bridging the space between progressive music and rock, Jethro Tull has woven a rich tapestry of sound into arresting images that are not only heard, but also seen in all their richly textured nuance by the mind’s eye. Indeed critics have often described the power of the iconic band’s music in terms of an abstract painting or edgy, experimental film. So, it was not surprising when Ian Anderson, leader of the quintet from Blackpool, England, made a giant video wall the centerpiece of the band’s set design for it's 2022 “The Prog Years” tour of Italy. Rather than showing IMAG images or typical breakout patterns on this wall, Anderson opted for deeper and more thought provoking cinematic images, such as an empty park bench and graffiti covered sidewalks being trampled on by faceless crowds for “Aqualung,” and stunt bicyclists for “Nothing Is Easy.” There were also scenes of locomotives riding the rails through tunnels, ballet dancers in empty rooms, and alien armies… The rich imagery flowed ceaselessly throughout the 16-song set. Understandably, Anderson wanted nothing on stage to diminish the impact of these images. At the same time, however, he was also intent on having a colorful, dynamic lightshow and impeccable key lighting support the band’s performance. Designer Gustavo Boetti, and the team at Fumasoli Audio & Light Rental obliged, evocatively lighting the stage and the artists, whilst also supporting, rather than distracting from the video wall. Helping them achieve this visions was a collection of CHAUVET Professional fixtures that included 24 Maverick MK2 Wash and 12 Maverick MK2 Spot fixtures, from Fumasoli’s own inventory. To keep the wall center stage, Boetti ruled out a number of effects such as dry ice and potentially distracting energetic aerial displays. Instead, he opted to incorporate a restrained yet creative application of lighting, drawing primarily upon the 12 (40 W) Osram RGBW LEDs of the Maverick MK2 Wash luminaires to create ethereal and sumptuous wash effects that doused the stage with atmosphere. Instead of detracting from the LED wall, the lighting concept was thus able to underline a number of moods on stage, reacting to the ebb and flow of various Jethro Tull classics. “It was certainly a challenge to do justice to such a creative and iconic music outfit such as Jethro Tull, who are traditionally known to have taken a keen interest in the role of light in their shows,” commented Boetti. “Thanks to our selection of Maverick MK2 Wash fixtures, however, we were able to create colorful environments and visual suggestions which complimented the video content projected onto the large screen.” Positioned over three trussing structures hung centrally above the stage, the selection of Maverick fixtures served to illuminate the stage, as well as the first few rows of the audience, adding an immersive aspect to the otherwise traditional stage set up. The remainder of the luminaries were split evenly along the back of the floor to ensure a varied spectrum of front and backlight illumination. To accentuate the stage area even more intently, Boetti drew upon the powerful throw of the 440w Maverick MK2 Spot to create unique movements of light. He also called upon these fixtures to draw shapes of light onto the stage area with rotations at low speed. “As the band is very keen on utilizing gobo effects in their shows, we decided to take this one step further, harboring the Maverick Spot’s gobo capabilities to create soft, textured throws to embellish the visual presence of individual band members,” continued Boetti. “What’s more, the interplay between the generous zoom of both the spot and wash fixtures ensured a sense of depth and perspective, which awarded the whole show with some unique visual imagery.” On the subject of visuals, fans who saw Jethro Tull on the recent Italian tour left with memories of richly textured music and fascinating images in their heads. And whilst those images emanated from the central video wall, the beguiling light that surround them made them all the more unforgettable. Tull frontman Ian Anderson is 74; yet the leg rises, his flute sings! The gig at Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, had been postponed not once but twice due to Covid. The break seems to have done Tull a world of good, as Ian's once failing voice is near faultless today, and classic songs have received most exciting new arrangements. 👌 Images by Timo Kivisto in Helsinki
