I tried doing a search for this, but I'm not smart enough to get that to work here. I'm an old Jethro Tull fan from high school. One of the first concerts I went to back about 1973 was Tull's "Passion Play" concert. I hadn't heard the album long enough to appreciate it then. Now I think it's their best album.
I stopped keeping up with Tull albums after about "Too Old To Rock And Roll" except for "Crest of a Knave" which I bought and I also saw that concert in Dallas (or Fort Worth). So I'm wondering are there other albums by Tull or Ian Anderson that have a sound similar to "Passion Play"? Of course, I bought "Thick As A Brick" and I heard TAAB2, but I didn't like either of those as much as "Passion Play".
So are there other Tull/Anderson albums that have that feeling of rock music done in a classical music arrangement?

The album that followed Passion Play, called War Child, is kind of a similar sound, but completely different because it's back to short tracks, but Ian Anderson still experimenting with the saxophone. The title track is great and has the classical string thing going on, but really, A Passion Play is pretty unique...…..that's why it's so brilliant, welcome to the forum Steve.

Thanks for the reply. I bought "War Child" when I was a freshman in college and it has a little similarity. I sold my albums 10 years ago and I haven't listened to "War Child" in almost 40 years. I'll give it another listen. "Living In The Past" also has some great songs in a rock/classical vein. I may listen to them again, too.
Thanks again, Steve

The best sources of Passion Play level Tull are the various releases with music recorded at exactly or almost exactly the same era..so: 20 years box has some, Nightcap has a lot and A Passion Play 'Theater version' the 40 year box is APP outtake/sibling heaven.

Try out Minstrel in the Gallery...Black Satin Dancer and Baker St Muse are done in a classical music arrangement sort of way and both are long pieces especially the later. You won’t be disappointed.
