Hello, everybody! Thursday night I was at Jethro Tull 50th year celebration concert in my hometown (51th year Ian admits) and it was I believe, about the 10th time I watched Ian live, a fantastic show, as always, with Ian in very good shape vocally (with respect to Ian's standard), just a little bit aged physically and a little bit fatter… nothing in comparison to Florian, who probably did the right choice to leave the group, becouse it seems that life on the road is not good for his feeding: he is becoming a fat ball. In any case everybody in the public went back home smiling happy, the many boys and girls too (well, I admit that in recent years I am become inclined to include people up to 30 yo to the boys and girls category).
And yet I had something new to discover, thanks perhaps to the fact that I was for the first time very very close, in second row, and that the concert hall had a perfect acoustic and the sound was perfect, such that I could watch well and really hear every decibel of Ian's voice. So I noticed something that I had not noticed before. Did you?
1) Ian seemes to have developed a strange kind of finger snapping in the right hand, when he keeps it down, while he sings; maybe it helps to keep the rhythm, or maybe he has to keep the finger moving to have them warm for playng the flute… I don't know. Very strange, and it must be something recent: I had never noticed that before. Did you?
2) In the song Aqualung Ian has changed the "salvation a la mode" line in "intellectual salvation", I think this Ian did this a few years ago but simply I had not noticed. But isn't it strange too? Why he did it?

Why he did it? I'm lead to believe that some lyrics were changed for the JT Opera shows to fit in more with the story line. Looks like in this case the changed lyrics remain.

I remember noticing the right-hand thing when I saw them in 1982 -- something twitchy, compulsively, all though the show.

Oh, that's nice, so it is something normal for him, I am glad to know that, becouse I admit I feared it was something neurological he developed in the old age

He’s always had a bit of exaggerated finger-snapping going on — check out the IoW 1970 DVD for plenty. I think he’s just turning a basic time-keeping measure into something more visually interesting because he’s a bloody pro. Never caught standing stock-still if he can help it! 😉
