ramzine.co.uk/news/ian-andersons-jethro-tull-tours/Ian Anderson’s Jethro Tull ToursPosted by: Paul H Birch in News December 4, 2019 Fans of Ian Anderson And The Jethro Tull Band are going to have to make a new year’s resolution about saving that little bit more in 2020, as prog rock icons have some very special events coming up. Spring will see more intimate live shows with Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull, the summer will find themKeeping The Blues Alive at Sea on the Mediterranean, then in Autumn they’re set to delight fans with The Prog Years Tour 2020. Through April to May, Ian Anderson will be visiting a number of England’s slightly smaller venues for Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull. Accompanied by guitarist Joe Parrish, this will be an intimate evening of performance and chat where Anderson will cover his career and the history of Jethro Tull and invite the audience to pose interesting and challenging questions. With archive video footage also being screened, the format will follow that of the successful Rubbing Elbows With… American tours of 2002 – 2003. “I’m looking forward to visiting some lesser played Tull songs and receiving some tricky questions from the audience!” remarked Anderson For the ardent Jethro Tull fan, this is an event not to be missed. The Prog Years Tour 2020 tour, 11 dates across the UK in September and October, will draw heavily on material from the band’s more progressive rock style albums, notably classic albums such as Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Passion Play and even a touch of Thick As A Brick 2 from 2012. From the outset, Anderson, as the band’s frontman created a distinctive persona as a tousled flute-playing minstrel, balanced on one leg and playing music with an historical slant. Talking about this tour he said: “Dusting off many older progressive songs amongst my earliest attempts to experiment outside the blues repertoire we began with has proved hugely enjoyable. Along the way, over the last 50 years, there have been a good few pieces that still strongly resonate with me today on either a musical or lyrical level. Hopefully both. “Some are really tricky to play; some might sound that way but fall under the fingers quite naturally although the overall arrangements require feats of memory! Test my marbles; come to the party!” Ian Anderson will be accompanied by Tull Band musicians David Goodier (bass), John O’Hara (keyboards), guitarist Joe Parrish and Scott Hammond on drums. The show will be enhanced by full scale video projection. Tickets are available by clicking here or from the venues direct.

Love this post by RH Entertainment in Finland... Ian Anderson plays Jethro Tull The quote "too old to rock and roll: too young to die" is part of at least many middle-aged basic rockers to this day. This is Jethro Tull's legendary recording from Spring 1976.
A Picture of Jethro Tull's charismatic head, the flute-looking leprecharismatic elf-looking elf standing on one leg, wearing a velvet jacket, has also been drawn forever in the subconscious of all prog-rock friends.
Ian Anderson plays Jethro Tull-lineup concert at Helsinki Culture House on 13. March, Turku Logo on 14. March and Tampere Hall 15. March 2020. In 2020.

Reservix.de LINK Did you know that the band Jethro Tull is named after the word that's somewhere between inventor and founder of modern agriculture?
By the way, the singer and flautist Ian Anderson, known for his one legged crane (as in the bird) pose, is going on tour in 2020 with his band Jethro Tull

www.yellowad.co.uk/jethro-tull-front-man-in-intimate-setting-at-palace-theatre-in-southend/Jethro Tull front man in intimate setting at Palace Theatre in Southend31/01/2020 Mick Ferris Fans of prog rock have a treat in store when Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull, reaches The Palace Theatre, Southend on Monday May 18. It will be an intimate evening of performance and chat with archive video footage covering Ian’s career and the history of his band Jethro Tull. Ian will be accompanied by guitarist Joe Parrish and the audience will be invited to pose interesting and challenging questions. Ian Anderson said: “I’m looking forward to visiting some lesser played Tull songs and receiving some tricky questions from the audience!” For the ardent Jethro Tull fan, this is an event not to be missed. Ian Anderson formed a blues and jazz fusion band in the mid-60s and the name changed frequently until an agent with an interest in history, booked them as Jethro Tull (inventor of the seed drill), and the name stuck. Tull’s debut album This Was received favourable reviews and sold well upon its release in 1968. The commercial break though came the following year when Living In The Past, with it’s unusual 5/4 time signature, reached number 11 in the singles chart and the album Stand Up, which saw the introduction of guitarist Martin Barre, the one constant in a much changing line up over the next 43 years, consolidated their popularity. Following the release of the classic album Aqualung in 1971, Jethro Tull became one of the most distinctive and original bands to fall under the ‘progressive rock’ umbrella and that still sets them apart as one of the best-loved bands of the genre. Tickets for Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull are available from the Palace Theatre.

www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/news/18209309.guitar-flute-ian-jethro-tull-rock/4 hrs ago Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull rock in Yeovil this AprilBy Jess Chaffey AT the age of just 20 years old, Ian Anderson started a band with Mick Abrahams, Clive Bunker and Glen Cornick. Little did Ian know that they would become one of the world’s most successful and enduring progressive rock bands of the 20th and 21st century. As a teenager, Ian was enthralled by America blues and Jazz. He began his music career playing in a band called the John Evans band, but he did not always see music as his dominating his entire career. He wanted to be a journalist, but there were no vacancies at the Blackpool Gazette, so he decided to be a police officer – unfortunately he was rejected upon application. However, fortunately for us, Ian continued with his passion for music and has been performing as part of Jethro Tull for 53 years. Ian said: “I was a guitar player as a teenager. Watching performers like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page and realised they were way ahead as guitarists. “So, I decided to try and find something else rather than live up to them. I traded in my guitar for a flute and vocal microphone. “For the next four months I couldn’t make a note. Someone told me it was like blowing into a bottle and eventually I got one note, then another and another. Soon I had the blues scale sorted. “It did look incongruous being a flute player in a blues band, but I tried to make it the equal of the guitar instead of being an instrument used in the background. “Playing the flute was just a weird coincidental moment for me. I am glad I didn’t play a cello or a violin or something that is large and bulky and hard to take on a plane with you!” Today the band consists of Ian, Joe Parish, Scott Hammond, John O’Hara and David Goodier. And Jethro Tull has performed over 4,500 concerts around the world. He added: “We’ve done so many concerts, I can’t remember all of them. But I do remember the venues: The Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden in New York and an ancient Mediterranean arena in Turkey in 1991, which was a full house. “Places like this are very special and it is a treat to be able to play a tiny part in a universe of performances. “We have a performance coming up in Patras in Greece at the Roman Odeon this year which I am really looking forward to.” Nerves are something that many musicians have to cope with, but Ian admitted that there was only once he became nervous – in 1966 when he was performing at a Catholic Youth Club. He said: “I was a shy, retiring middle class schoolboy and it did take something to get there but performing is seductive and it comes with a misplaced confidence. “Now, for me, each gig is just another day in the office.” A few times Ian has been nervous about technology, particularly when he was working on a musical satellite broadcast with the BBC and the system didn’t work about 20 seconds before they were about to start. Or the time when he was part of a space duet with NASA astronaut Cady Coleman, as many things could have gone wrong. Their performance celebrated 50 years of human spaceflight and the anniversary of the first launch of a human to space. But the performance was successful and the pair played a portion of the song Bourree, while Cady was 220 miles above the Earth and Ian was on tour in Perm, Russian. Ian said: “I was struck by that poignant moment, especially with the military and scientists who worked on the rockets being in the audience. “I get to do so many different types of performances. From the cheap and cheerful ones to the more serious ones.” Now, Ian Anderson is taking part in a few evenings on tour entitled Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull. This is an intimate evening of performance and chat with archive video footage covering his career and the history of Jethro Tull. Current guitarist Joe Parish will accompany Ian on this tour. Ian added: “These shows do depend on making them rehearsed and interesting, yet also off the cuff and spontaneous, so I don’t want to rehearse too much as I want to make the audience feel involved and get them to talk. “I am inviting the audience to question me and make me squirm. I will be their Boris if they are my Andrew Neil!” Ian Anderson on Jethro Tull will be at Westlands in Yeovil on Monday, April 20.To find out more or to book visit or westlandsyeovil.co.uk. PSM Jazz Festival: Jethro Tull The Prog Years LIVE in Istanbul 12 May 20:30 - Turkcell Stage LINK The legend Jethro Tull, one of the most successful and most permanent bands in the world, contributing songs such as "Aqualung" and "Locomotive Breath" to progressive rock history, will be the guest of PSM Jazz Festival on May 12th as part of the Jethro Tull The Prog Years tour!"There was another part of my brain that enjoyed the more mathematical nature of a very different music. So when I heard Bach and Beethoven when I was a young professional musician I felt that this was the kind of music that I could perhaps incorporate a little bit into my own songwriting.” – Ian Anderson 2017
