Review & Images by Joe Norton March 28Rock royalty in "Natt-ick" last night. Martin Barre's band touring off the 50th (yeah - I know) anniversary of Jethro Tull's 'Aqualung'. I really don't have anything to write beyond that which I always write about Martin. Outstanding musician, great arrangements, brilliant setlists, a full night of music (2+ hours last night) and absolutely THE nicest person in the entertainment field that I have ever met. Lovely man. The first set last night was terrific, a short break and then the band (along with Clive Bunker) came out for the actual business at hand. It is so great to hear these songs and the version of 'My God' (my favorite JT song and easy Top Ten all time favorite song - any artist, any genre, any period) was over the top ! The band, together now for some time, is outstanding and is better each time I see them. They were winding down the tour on this stop and, as Martin said, they have played a lot in the US on this tour: "the bottom right, the bottom left, the top left, the middle and the top right", 'top right', of course getting a loud reception! This shortly after he asked us if we consider ourselves 'Bostonians' even though we are in Natick! 😂 I say it each time - if Martin comes to or near your city, SEE HIM! A great night made all the greater - as EVERY night of music proves - by seeing friends and making new ones. The five minute ride home and free parking always proving a bonus to a show at TCAN - especially on a Sunday night! 🙂

defendersofthefaithmetal.com/martin-barre-at-the-arcada-theatre-1-20-2022/DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH YOUR HOME FOR METAL ALBUM REVIEWS, CONCERT REVIEWS, AND INTERVIEWS. Martin Barre at the Arcada Theatre (1/20/2022)January 24, 2022 Joe Miller Concert Reviews When Martin Barre was originally set to play the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois, it was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jethro Tull’s groundbreaking fourth studio album, Aqualung. Of course, that 50th anniversary came and went with only a handful of European dates played, due to the COVID pandemic royally screwing things up. But as the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait. Last Thursday, Barre and his band finally took the Arcada stage to celebrate not only Aqualung, but Barre’s legendary career with Jethro Tull, which spanned from 1968 to 2011. Making the occasion even more special was the inclusion of classic era Tull drummer Clive Bunker. Technically, there was more Jethro Tull onstage than what Ian Anderson currently labels as Jethro Tull, but I digress. Continuation of review and images from the concert here

The former Jethro Tull band member has a July 25 date at Bell Performing Arts Centre on a North American tour. “Aqualung,” the most famous and celebrated of all of Jethro Tull’s albums, was released in 1971. On tour, the album is played in its entirety by Barre and band with special guest Clive Bunker, Tull’s original drummer. “The anniversary tour will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit back and relive this legendary album, being played in full and in sequence for the first time,” says a post on the theatre’s website. Tickets start at $56.25 on bellperformingartscentre.com, or call 604-507-6355. On martinbarre.com, Barre is noted as Tull’s guitarist for over 43 years. “His sound and playing was a major factor in their success,” a bio says. “Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history.” His playing on the album “Crest of a Knave” earned Barre a Grammy award in 1989, a year when many observers thought Metallica should have been given the Metal/Hard Rock award. “As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Martin has worked with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Joe Bonamassa and Chris Thompson and has shared a stage with such legends as Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin,” the bio continues. “Martin has put together a band to play the “classic” music from the Tull catalogue. His band is a total commitment to give the Tull fans and a broader audience the chance to hear tracks not performed for many years. The band includes top musicians from a similar background.” In B.C. this summer, Barre’s tour will also stop at theatres in Victoria, Campbell River, Nanaimo and Vernon, followed by fall dates in Europe.

by Prog Nick pics by Joel Barrios LINK Recap of Cruise to the Edge 2022 which sailed May 2nd-May 7th out of Port Canaveral, FL In many cases, difficult decisions must be made as to which band to go see. Knowing you might have a second chance at a band, allows you at times to choose one over the other. In this case, it was on to veteran guitarist Martin Barre, whom I chose over Pain of Salvation in honor of the fact that this was the year of the 50th anniversary of ‘Thick as a Brick.’ Though the set was mostly from other albums, Barre did not disappoint. He delivered a pleasing selection of favorites from ‘Hunting Girl’ to a morsel of ‘Thick as a Brick’ and then, of course, the whole of Aqualung ending with ‘Locomotive Breath. ’ Martin Barre’s bassist, Allan Thomson, ended up filling in for Wishbone Ash.
