Boretto (Reggio Emilia) 15 July 2011, concert on the banks of the Po. Ian Anderson performs Boureè together with the American astronaut Catherine Coleman who intervened with her colleague Paolo Nespoli. LINK It's not every day that you have guests ... from space. On Friday 15 July in Boretto (RE), the second leg of the Italian tour of the Jethro Tulls started today in Asti, two astronauts will land on the stage of Ian Anderson & company.
The Italian Paolo Nespoli and the American Catherine "Cady" Coleman, recently returned from a mission on the Shuttle, were in fact invited by Anderson to take the stage in Boretto, as they are both in Italy for events related to a program of the NASA.
The bond between Jethro Tull and space is the flute. Cady Coleman, chemist but also flutist, has in fact put one of Anderson's instruments into orbit and last April 11th the two duet (she in orbit, he at the Perm base, in Kazakhstan). Anderson's interest in space is long-standing: in 1970 he wrote a song, "For Michael Collins, Jeffrey and Me" for the Benefit album that spoke of the American mission to the moon in '69.
The Jethro Tull are celebrating the forty years of Aqualung, their most famous album in 1971 which reached number one in Italy too. The tour, organized by Blue Sky Promotion - and never the name was more appropriate - the band's Italian agency for years, will stop on Saturday 16th in Brescia, Sunday 17th in Cattolica and Monday 18th in Ostia Antica.
