PROG ROCK FLAUTIST TO GRACE A BRACE OF OUR CATHEDRALS AT CHRISTMAS LINK Ian said: “Whether your Christmas is a secular affair of gift-giving and family gatherings, or a more worshipfulrecognition of one of the two biggest days in the Christian calendar, join us for some uplifting Christmas spirit, music, readings and maybe even a prayer or two.”
Ian, a self professed Deist/Pantheist, has a heart for the Christian traditions and aims to support both the Christian religion and the places of worship by performing in some of the country’s cathedrals and churches to help them raise much needed funds.
The famous flautist added: “The bringing together of people of all backgrounds, cultures and faiths in this way is possible perhaps only under the auspices of modern Christianity, especially in the Anglican Church.
“If I can help draw people in to these beautiful and historic buildings to savour just a little of the spirit of Christmas, then it is a worthwhile effort.”
100% of all ticket sales will be donated to the cathedral for the upkeep of the building and its musical tradition.
“I try to balance the festive time of year in song with a few of the elements of an old fashioned carol service – all delivered with good humour and good cheer.
“Grace me, and hopefully a few special guests, with your presence for some of the best known repertoire of Jethro Tull and a few snippets of seasonal traditional church and classical music,” Ian said.

How it came about, we asked Stadtkirchenpfarrer Olaf Lewerenz. For the show "On the road to Bethlehem" there are two free tickets to win - just send an e-mail to info@efo-magazin.de until May 12th. Snapshot without flute: Ian Anderson in the Katharinenkirche, photographed by the pastor.Mr Lewerenz, how did you manage to get Ian Anderson to a concert in the Katharinenkirche? Olaf Lewerenz: That's how it happened: I got an email from three corners forwarded by Ian Anderson. He had probably become aware of the Katharinenkirche by the penultimate Luminale and wanted to have a look at it. And I wrote to him. What happened then? After a few days I got an email - from Ian Anderson personally, from his private account. At first I thought: Hm, Fake? But maybe not! He wrote that he would be in Frankfurt shortly, and we had an appointment at St. Catherine's Church. And then Ian Anderson, with his flute under his arm, strolled over the main watch. We immediately had a relationship. I showed him the church, we talked for over an hour. He talked about his Christmas concerts, which he organizes in England. Meanwhile, we write regularly, congratulate ourselves on birthdays and sign up for Christmas. Were you a teenager fan of the band Jethro Tull? I had a few records. And in 1983 in my high school exam in the music performance course was a theme "Songs from the Wood" by Jethro Tull. But then I decided on the other topic, which was the St. Matthew Passion. What attracts Ian Anderson at St. Catherine's Church? Did he explain that? Ian is a very spiritual person, but does not see himself as a Christian - but rather as a deist or pantheist, so he believes already in a higher being, who lives in nature and in things. He sees God in everything. For him, churches are above all cultural places. He likes the Katharinenkirche as a space, but for him it is more than a mere location. In what way? The concert is an Advent concert under the title "On the road to Bethlehem", in which, however, the repertoire of Jethro Tull occurs. There is a spiritual framework in which I too am involved as a pastor. I will speak a peace prayer. That's important to Ian. Christmas means a lot to him, he has a concern. What he envisioned is much more than a rock concert in a different setting. I'm looking forward to the concert and I'm really excited about how Ian will do it. The concert is a fundraiser. Where is the money donated? We intend to use the proceeds to rebuild an interfaith school center in the Indonesian Palu region, which is still severely affected by the earthquake last year. Young people of all denominations can train there as tailors or tailors or in agricultural occupations. I think that fits well. Ian Anderson, born on August 10, 1947, is a British singer , composer , lyricist , flutist and guitarist . He became known as the frontman of the band Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson has released a number of solo albums, but for the past 50 years he has been widely recognized as the head of Jethro Tull. This is particularly due to the fact that during his first career, Anderson had developed a distinctive style of music and stage presence that most often ran counter to the prevailing trends in rock music - he appeared as a medieval fool, English junker and Scottish squire. At other times, he slipped into the role of an astronaut, pirate or tramp. Anderson's music mixes styles like folk, jazz, blues, classical, rock and world music. His lyrics are usually complex. Often they act on not quite serious criticism of the rules of society - such as the churches. Pastor Olaf Lewerenz (55) has been parish priest at the Frankfurt Katharinenkirche for four years. He wrote his doctorate in diaconal science on the theologian Friedrich Naumann. Lewerenz comes from Lübeck, he also studied church music and was previously a pastor at the Lessing High School, educational officer and pastor at the temple. For a concert in the Katharinenkirche at the Frankfurt Hauptwache Ian Anderson comes on Saturday, 30. November. The proceeds from the show "On the road to Bethlehem's The Jethro Tull Christmas Concert, performed by Ian Anderson" will help rebuild a training center in Indonesia. Tickets (40/55/70 Euro) are available at adticket.de or by calling 0180 6050400.

Thanks for the info. I did not recognise either despite the fact that I saw Lloyd Grossman at Durham Catherdal 2 years ago and I have watched numerous Xmas videos with him playing. He seems to be really into Tull music and enjoying the Xmas concerts.
