"And one day when the oil barons have all dripped dry And the nights are seen to draw colder They'll beg for your strength, your gentle power Your noble grace and your bearing And you'll strain once again to the sound of the gulls In the wake of the deep plough, sharing."
There is a sad, yet hope-filled, beauty in the certainty of the decline, decay and (eventual) regeneration that the Earth undergoes and passes on to mankind, his companions and all of nature. Listening to Heavy Horses on this October day with the blustery wind and clouds hanging oppressively low in the heavens; it brought me to one emotional tear dropping from my right eye. Mr. Anderson, sir. You always found a way to capture, identify with, and understand those that got left behind. Still my favorite of your songs for the new life you gave these beautiful creatures.
Bring a song for the evening, sir!

I agree, the Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses period was some of Ian's most poetic writing. He is a poet indeed.

Lovely old film about the art of horse ploughing. Posh accents and 'gay' music. Ignore the first few seconds and the last (home brewing) ,it has nothing to do with horse ploughing.

I love those old films especially the 'gay' music and posh accents I did notice though that it looks hard work for the bloke guiding the plough as well as it is for the horse
