I discovered the Tull fan world over ten years ago via the Live Chat on the official Tull web page.
It was a place for those who had dropped into the online Tull world to have a live chat and post comments about the band. It was busy, chaotic and at times, a lot of fun.
Over a while you got to know a few regular people by discussing the band.
However, when a gang of trolls (often) appeared it was time to get out for a while.
We found a place called "The Island" This was part of the same network community as the Live Chat however,it was set up for a few members to escape and chat about the band.
Tullskull was the founder. Onewhiteduck, Broadsword , myself and Salamander were part of it. We spoke every evening for several years, about Tull, life and what we had done that day.
The craic and fun were mighty!
Salamander was known as Tullgurl.
Tullgurl was welcoming, warm, funny and genuinely interested in everyone.
Her Tull fan credentials were solid – a lifelong fan from teenage years, a regular concert attender ( t-shirt wearer) a steady listener. Avid and enthusiastic about the latest Anderson musical offerings.
Later, we all found Facebook - faces could be put to names.
We got to know about other aspects of our lives.
Tullgurl grew up and lived in California. She worked with children and was a LA Dodgers fan. We watched as her three beautiful and adored grandchildren came into the world. We shared and joked about life in general for another few years.
Tullgurl passed away, suddenly, two days ago.
Her famous catchphrase was directed to Ian Anderson: when she posted a photo of him or answered someone else, it was always with;
“I love that man”
Ian, you had a beautiful and very loyal fan.
A truly special and wonderful human being. She brought a great light and warmth into the lives of all who knew her. I will miss her so much.
We have lost a friend. Tullgurl – Susan Brough Youngquist
Rest easy Susan and with the music.
“Salamander, Born in the sun-kissed flame"
" I have said it before and I'll say it again...as long as the lads keep making records, I will buy them and as long as they keep touring, I will go see them."
Salamander, Jethro Tull Forum, February, 2010

Skull Island, Founded on Nov 20th 2007 from a sea of trolls in the Tull Chat so we had a calm place to chat.. and what a fun place that was, talking about Tull and becoming friends. From there we watched her family grow in Calif, watched the fires burn so close to there home, always knew when they were headed to a show or when a new Tull CD showed up in the mail, what the Dodgers were doing, she was/is Family, we watched her family grow and the love for the grand kids. Love you forever Gurly.. The Island is/was, TullGurl RIP My Friend, NINO, Pattier/nonrabbit, maddogfagin, Fluteman, Spokenorton, Broadsword, Midwinter, OneWhiteDuck, The Q, Brick, Beltane, Wooglet, Minstrel, and Manicmike. Thanks Skullie, that was a lovely tribute. Glad you posted those photos - I was looking for the second one when she was in her teens,probably around the time she discovered Tull. The one of the concert - I remember she laughed when I was surprised by what you call 'Tailgate parties' and I had never heard of them, well certainly not in this climate!

Sad Sad Sad Sad News. Susan was such a warm, wonderful, positive, love filled person. I'll try contact her husband today, still have his cell# from our countless meet ups. What a loss. I think I am in shock and can't believe I will no longer cross paths with Susan on the best days of our lives.

Susan's funeral service takes place on Friday, 19th October at 11am pacific time - 7pm London time.
Her son posted this today;
"We are playing this song at my mom’s funeral. It was her request. I’ve heard this song a million times growing up with the biggest Tull fan in the world, but never really paid attention to the lyrics.
I totally understand why she chose this song, and the lyrics are beautiful. Thank you for being a big part of her life and sharing her love of Jethro Tull.
It means a lot to our family that so many people loved my mom."
I'll be listening.

What he wrote was beautiful and it speaks volumes to me. God Bless them.

I wish I would have met her and you guys, too. I'm a little sad at this moment, just thinking about how both sad and glorious when generations change hands. My prayers to God for everyone here, this week, that you are comforted knowing she is now in a much better place.

"Doesn't everyone have their own Rock Island? Their own little patch of sand? Where the slow waves crawl and your angels fall And you find you can hardly stand. And just as you're drowning, well, The tide goes down. And you're back on your Rock Island...... Rock Island." Miss You Gurly...... On this day in 2007, from a sea of Trolls was born an Island of Tullies... We are 11 years old today.. We've been a family and as a family we've had marriages, divorces, babies, grand babies and sadly a death. Gurly, Patti, Flute, Sword, CBass, OWD, Spoke, Wooglet, Midwinter, MadDog, Minstrel, Q, Aguavern, Spittinrodney, ManicMike, Beltane, Brick, Twofingers and our NINO... and what a crew we were and still are.! Don't know where some of us are at anymore and don't know if any of you would like to gather on the Island in honor of TullGurl or not, I think it would be good. Has been some time since we gathered on the Island. Let me know what's good for you as we wrap the World in time zones, from California to the UK. Love You All...
