Found this the other day which I have somewhere on vinyl. If you like the cross-over between Tull and Fairport you might like a listen. Have a browse through time-has-told-me-artist.blogspot.com/ and you'll find it. As a band they didn't last long and changed lineup a few times. I saw them once toward the end of their playing days with Dave Burland, a great UK folk singer, as one of their members.

Jimi at Albert Hall, 2/69 just the soundcheck to this point. Along with Coltrane Jimi is the musician from whom I believe every note has historic value, especially a remarkably good recording such as this, amazing more has not been released in 40 years. Even in some of his lamer performances, or dodgier boot recordings, there frequently will be a note in something like Red House, HearMy Train or Voodoo Chile that could only be Jimi, remarkably flamboyant signature, for me it just never gets old.

This week, I have mostly been listening to a bit of Tool, a bit of Hendrix, a bit of Soundgarden, but mostly Jethro Tull (Roots To Branches has been getting a couple of plays lately). I have heard rumours that a Soundgarden reunion isn't completely out of the question, I'd love it if that happened, but it probably won't. I saw Tool live a couple of years ago, and was a bit disappointed with them really. I haven't been listening to anything that's come out in the last couple of years, Tool's last album is probably the most modern album that I've been listening to lately. Oh, and Scott Matthews, I've been listening to him a bit too, sounds quite a lot like Jeff Buckley.

Polish prog rockers Riverside, well worth checking out.Difficult to categories but Floyd and Porcupine Tree influences are evident. Also Home, seventies rockers Cliff Williams first band on bass and Laurie Winfield on guitar -before he joined Wishbone Ash.Live BBC sessions CD worth hunting out (horrendously expensive on Amazon £100+) And for blowing the cobwebs away Machine Head keeps the god squad from knocking the door Sunday mornings, don't want there kids hearing that row.

Clifton Chenier, the father of zydeco with his Red Hot Louisiana Band Live at Grant St, one of the best live albums I have heard. I had to google all that to start with but bloomin heck it was worth the few secs of typing;) Listening to Buckwheat Zydecko and the All star band That looks a good night and some seriously good piano playing Would I be right in thinking the accordion in Clifton Chenier's is the French influence ?

If you like Buckwheat Zydeco honey, I can't claim to know him well, my cousin from Louisiana got me some cassette by him and not to sound elitist, cause although there are a few things I like alot like Clifton and his son CJ Chenier, Terrance Simien and Boozoo Chavis in zydeco, Buckwheat on that one exposure struck me as a sellout form of zydeco, I could be wrong. All those three I mention though freaking smoke, very hard for even non dancers to sit still, it gets pretty sweaty on that dance floor, and you gotta make sure not to poke your eyes out on the umbrellas. 8-)I am not sure where either the accordions or the umbrellas came in other that accordions have always been common in many folk musics and with the inter breeding among cultures I am sure French Cajun picked it up somewhere, probably centuries ago. Umbrellas I can only guess cause Louisiana can be very wet. I hope my exposure to and impressions of Buckwheat Zydeco don't sound arrogant, for all I know all the people I have mentioned may have made weak studio records, dunno, plus I have seen the 4 people I mentioned. These 2 you tubes of Clifton are pretty cool, sure glad I got to see him a few times www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-ypcletwvEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=B0FlSTIGlpA

Just had to play this album this morning. It's set me up for the working week. If you've never listened to it then it is a joyous experience to behold.

I'm like that too, Maddog. When I get reminded of an album I haven't heard in awhile, it's time!
I'm a big fan of Brian MacLean's little sister, Maria McKee. Here's a video of her doing her sort of cabaret version of Love's Orange Skies.

What...and not discuss the musical and acrobatic abilities of the Wiggles? They kicked ass...mid to late fifties guys who played, sang and danced their well meaning butts off! Maybe i was just in a good mood from the $$$ dropped on me...but i really thought the Wiggs were great. And on the derary ride home, with the kid nicely crashed, I could space out at 80MPH and think of moresongs for the inevitable Tull-Beach Boys tour:
Songs from the Beach Surfing away on the thin ice of a New day Two Ladies for every Boy My God Only Knows Endless Summer Day Sands
