Listen to this... Magnificent... I can't help but think that there are some Thick As A Brick elements in this... Hmm... Black Marked is from 1976... Still... There are some similarities...

Avantasia - The Scarecrow SeventhKey - The Raging Fire Ten - Heresey and Creed My favorite track on The Scarecrow is "The Toy Master". Listening to "The Day That the World Breaks Down" by Ayreon from the album The Source, as I write.

Listening to "The Day That the World Breaks Down" by Ayreon from the album The Source, as I write. The Toy Master is spellbinding to me. I surfed up The Source and I'm immediately liking this (especially considering EVERYBODY guests on this album). This is like a who's who of hard rock artists on here. I see it's amongst a series of concept albums by them. I will be checking out their earlier stuff. Thanks! Very cool. Yeah, the first song is great.

Arjen Anthony Lucassen and his Ayreon project has produced several concept albums. Lots of guest singers from Symphony X, Drean Theater, Blind Guardian, Edguy(Avantasia) to name a few. If you like Russel Allen, check out "Dawn of a Million Souls" on Flight of the Migrator Pt.2. Bruce Dickenson also guests on that album. I Love long concept albums. There are only seven albums that I listen to without skipping a track. 6. Operation Mindcrime- Queensryche 5. V: The New Mythology Suite- Symphony X 4. Going for the One- Yes 3. In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra- Procol Harum 2. A Night at the Opera- Blind Guardian 1. Tie- Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play- well...you know

I have been playing this album today. Hawkwind's finest! Gee, I have never heard of Hawkwind. I pulled up the album on youtube, just a moment ago. Very "fluty" . I am wondering just how is it that I managed to reach 55 and have never heard of this band. They've never once been mentioned in my presence. I like the synths.

'Silver Machine' was a massive hit for the band in the UK in 1972. This was Lemmy's last album as a member of Hawkwind released in 1975 before he was sacked and formed Motorhead. I would recommend 'Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music', 'Quark, Strangeness and Charm, and '25 Years On' (released using the name' Hawklords' because of 'contractual' reasons) and PXR5 if you want to delve further. A superb band!

The cover of the album reminds me of, "As the sun plays on the infantry returning from the sea".

The new Oysterband album "Read the Sky" dropped through my letterbox this morning. It doesn't disappoint. Mature intelligent music. I recommended the youtube video taster "Wonders are passing" a while ago. Great cover too. (Though I have no idea how to post a pic of it on here)

Pink Floyd - 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Animals' are on my playlist today. First time I saw Floyd with Sid Barrett, also Jimi Hendrix Experience, Traffic etc., December 1967.

That must have been some gig. What a fantastic bill. I only ever saw Pink Floyd once, in November 1974 at Newcastle Odeon. Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets are on tour in April/May - so I will have to see about getting tickets for the Newcastle City Hall gig.

Where are the eyes that looked so mild? Hurroo! Hurroo! Where are the eyes that looked so mild? Hurroo! Hurroo! Where are the eyes that looked so mild When my poor heart you first beguiled? Why did ye run from me and the child? Oh Johnny, I hardly knew ye!
With your drums and guns and guns and drums The enemy NEVER slew ye! Oh darling dear, ye look so queer! Johnny I hardly knew ye!!

This song never fails to strike me. Clancy Bros w/Tommy Makem being my favorite version I think. It's very moving. There's this feeling that no matter what happens, no matter how much they take, there are parts of you that simple cannot be taken. That notion is very powerful against the enemy. You just can't beat Tommy Makem on his versions of any song, but the Irish Rovers aren't far behind him. And, I think I heard a Wolfe Tones version, going way back.

Lowlands Away version by: Ian. F. Benzie
I had a dream the other night Lowlands, lowlands away, my John.
I dreamed my love was on the sea. Lowlands, lowlands away, my John.
And brown seaweed was in his hair. Lowlands, lowlands away, my John.
I dreamed my love was drowned and dead. Lowlands, lowlands away, my John.
I had a dream the other night. Lowlands, lowlands away, my John. I had a dream the other night. Lowlands away!
