Which Tull sons (including IA solo compositions) do you find the most moving, both lyrically and musically, and why?

For me, very personally, the songs that address succeeding and making your own way in the world, despite having a father who criticized, hindered, degraded and otherwise failed as a dad, are very moving and inspiring...Son, Wind-Up and Thick as a Brick are obvious but other songs mention this dynamic as well. Recently, Strange Avenues has been a song i consider 'moving'.

Recently, Strange Avenues has been a song i consider 'moving'. There are a lot of early Tull songs where Ian seems critical of his parents, and his father in particular. (That's assuming, of course, that those songs are intended to be autobiographical in nature, as opposed to just general teen-angst kind of songs.) For a Thousand Mothers is another example of exactly what you are talking about, i.e., succeeding in spite of parental criticism. Jeff

Any song that gives you comfort in times of distress and adversity gets my vote, which Nursie does by the shed load.

Always had a soft spot for "Life Is A Long Song". If I ever had to point someone in the direction of all things Tull, this would be top of the list. Great words, a tune which could not have been written by anyone else, an arrangement to die for and exactly the right duration - not too short, not too long.

Interesting choice, MadDog, as "Move On..." was written & sung by Mick Abrahams.
