Been getting into "Mistrel...." a lot lately. What a gorg song "Requiem" is. And IA sings it so beautifully.

Minstrel is as personal and real as it gets for Mr. Anderson as a songwriter...he was falling in love with the woman he married, and is still with and was obviously feeling alienated and out of touch...to his credit...with the Elton John/David Bowie/Rod Stewart type rock stars that got more headlines for their flamboyany lifestyles than attention to their increasingly tepid production ( Bowie recovered!). War Child, though brilliant, felt like a step down from Passion Play, to me but Minstrel restored my faith in Tull as a band incomparably in a class of their own. I survived my freshman year in college by locking myself in my room every day at lunchtime and listening to Baker Street Muse as loud as my ears and neighbors would tolerate.....a long hitchike to the venue where Tull played that year led to some disappointment...it wasn't the minstrel tour at all...it was the same set as War Child with only one new song, minstrel in the Gallery......oh well...still a great concert but anticipation of baker St Muse live quite squashed!

Agreed on all accounts! I remember buying the "Minstrel....." single (45 rpm?) and I think it had the acoustic version on one side & thye electric on the other? or was it the electric on side 1 and "Valhalla" on da other? Anyone know? I CAN'T GET OUT!!!!

I think it was Minstrel...without the acoustic and guitar jam intro...just started with the riff and quickly into vocals...and maybe summerday sands on the other side? I can't really remember...maybe summer day sands was it's own single with strip cartoon on the other side? I read somewhere that Requiem was originally much, much longer...doesn't it sound like summerday sands might have been decanted out of a longer Requiem?

Damn I love Minstrel and theres nothing live out there (appart from the 2 mins in Paris I´ve seen) or so it seems. I hope to be alive if any of this era ever gets to the stores. I´m really doubting it Shark Dan

Love Minstrel - Definitely in my top 3. sharkdaniel - have you checked out Minstrels In The Red House? After 20 plus years of Tulldom, i only discovered it last summer - what a find! Even with some sound problems, it's truly a 'lost' treasure I've subjected my neighbors to Baker St. Muse many times as well . Had i been fortunate enough to attend, I would have been so disappointed about the lack of MitG material in the live shows that year. I wonder if IA has ever explained this....You'd think, even taking into account the personal nature of the material, that the tour would have been MitG-material-heavy. Strange that.

Funny, I think "Requiem" is the worst song on the album, as it bores me a lot and it doesn't have a decent melody... That's only my opinion though and I love the rest of the album (expecially the first 8 minutes of "Baker Street Muse")
