Have been enjoying BBC4's repeats of the 1976 Top of the Pops in the past few months. If they haven't wiped it, the 'Solstice Bells' episode should be on this week or next. It may have been played again on a subsequent week, can't remember (I was only 11!). The BBC4 shows are on Thursday nights at 7.30 and again on Saturday night at around midnight. Thanks for the reminder. Both versions are on youtube for those without BBC4 and are well worth a repost fritz51355laufi

BBC 4 are repeating the programme "Blues Britannia: Can Blue Men Sing the Whites?" on Friday 9 December at 23.00Duration: 1 hour, 30 minutes Documentary telling the story of what happened to blues music on its journey from the southern states of America to the heart of British pop and rock culture, providing an in-depth look at what this music really meant to a generation of kids desperate for an antidote to their experiences of living in post-war suburban Britain. Narrated by Nigel Planer and structured in three parts, the first, Born Under a Bad Sign, focuses on the arrival of American blues in Britain in the late 50s and the first performances here by such legends as Muddy Waters, Sonnie Terry and Brownie McGhee. Part two, Sittin' on Top of the World, charts the birth of the first British blues boom in the early 60s, spearheaded by the Rolling Stones and groups such as the Yardbirds, Manfred Mann, the Animals and the Pretty Things. The final section, Crossroads, looks at the next, more hardcore British blues boom of the mid-to-late 60s, with guitarists Eric Clapton and Peter Green and the international dominance of their respective bands, Cream and Fleetwood Mac. Featuring archive performances and interviews with Keith Richards, Paul Jones, Chris Dreja, Bill Wyman, Phil May, John Mayall, Jack Bruce, Mick Fleetwood, Ian Anderson, Tony McPhee, Mike Vernon, Tom McGuinness, Mick [/b] Abrahams, Dick Taylor, Val Wilmer, Chris Barber, Pete Brown, Bob Brunning, Dave Kelly and Phil Ryan. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kc752

Thanks for reminding about TOTP - thanks for reminding me how old I was in 1976 ;D (older than you - just) The 9/12/76 episode is finally broadcast this week on BBC4 as above. It'll be nice to see it context rather than just the clip with Diddy David's intro. N

I wish I could take up the offer on the tickets as well but alas the miles are too far I watched it Jeez was there ever more crap as 70's pop and how could I forget I listened to the Kursaal Flyers and the forgettable lyrics; She was sharing her spin dryer with a guy in a tie-dye When she saw my reflection in the chrome I knew that she'd seen me 'cause she dropped her bikini The one that I got her in Rome...... When she finished her laundry she was all in a quandary And made it for the street like a hare Her escape was so urgent, she forgot her detergent And dropped all her clean underwear..... "puke"then a bit of Abba and their Money Money Money then the only thing worth watching - Solstice Bells. What a beautiful performance.. what a performer Sir Ian - take a bow and doff your deerstalker. John Glascock was indeed an all round beautiful addition to Tull!! Then as only in the world of the 70's could Jethro Tull lead onto Legs and Company dancing with the weirdest knee high boots ever seen (and unsexy) to Mike Oldfields Portsmouth complete with a live parrot on a perch I kept watching and got a man dressed like Huggy Bear out of Starskey &Hutch who couldn't use his mike ...Dana and then Paul Nicholas with a satin shirt opened to his waist singing Grandma's Party .....No 1?? who else ...Showaddywaddy - you've got to see it why should I be the only one to suffer

Delighted to find that BBC4 TOTP is carrying on into 1977 as of tonight. The first January show lists Tull too! Is it a repeat of the mimed Solstice Bells, the SB promo or even the Whistler which came out around then? Can't wait.

One and a bit emails from Martin Webb: Mornin' According to a mate who has more time to watch TV than I do, a trailer last night for BBC Four's 'How The West Was Won' (3-part documentary on British bands in America, starting Friday 27 Jan - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01b4x9g ) featured two clips of Tull. I'm guessing they might be in Part 2, but I'll be watching from the start just in case.
Actually, looking at the Radio Times, the episode is called How The West Was Won, but the series is called How The Brits Rocked America. Cheers, Martin

BBC2's 'Eggheads' quiz - just a few minutes ago.... Music round question to Egghead 'Chris' (the long-haired one who professes to know his music of his own era - Prog Rock etc) - he was asked.... 'Ian Anderson found fame as original member and singer of which Prog-Rock band?' He answered confidently.... 'Fairport Convention' Doh!

HELLO Frank and WELCOME to the Forumi40.images obliterated by tinypic/9lbb89.gif[/IMG] Brilliant first post and not a video I've seen, many thanks for that. Love the intensity of the interviewer - or is that just the accent? also when Ian's discussing the topic of violence the video jumps to pictures of him in full flute swing. Great stuff Tell you what I did see also - Led Zep at Earls Court 1975 on my birthday I wasn't as young as Bonham junior was though when his Dad had him play the drums on stage at the concert. Many thanks for dropping in and please post again and enjoy the Forums' threads. Cheers nonrabbit

I recorded it and still haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I see it's available on youtube but I am not going to give into temptation. Nothing like watching it on the big screen! Roll on the weekend (Perth & Glasgow concerts).

Jethro Tull Live At The Isle Of Wight Director Murray Lerner follows Jethro Tull through their legendary performance on the final day of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival Jethro Tull was formed in the late 60’s and released their debut album This Was in 1968. Led by charismatic frontman Ian Anderson, they have registered no.1 albums on both sides of the Atlantic and won a Grammy award. The set includes their popular tracks such as My Sunday Feeling, Dharma For One, Bourée and Nothing Is Easy and also featured My God, a track that would appear on the following year’s classic album Aqualung. Nothing Is Easy is a true concert film, combining the classic performances from the festival with a new interview with Ian Anderson, specially shot for the film, and with backstage footage and original interviews from 1970 with Isle of Wight residents and fans attending the festival. Also included in the film is footage of the band’s appearance in the Rolling Stones’ Rock And Roll Circus performing A Song For Jeffrey with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath on guitar. Songs performed here include: - My Sunday Feeling - My God - With You There To Help Me - To Cry You A Song - Bouree - Dharma For One - Nothing Is Easy skyarts.sky.com/jethro-tull-live-at-the-isle-of-wight

Wow, if it does end up somewhere online where Americans can watch it I'd be very interested. It would be great to see Ian talking about Thick as a Brick with other people rather than hearing him talk about it by himself, as he has to do so often.
