I am a huge fan of Colin Hay and have been following him for a few years now. Unfortunately never seen him live but I fully intend to rectify that now that I'm back living in the bigger world. And, as I've just checked his webpage, will do that when he comes to Glasgow in April! Thanks for the reminder Steve. He is without a doubt one of the most charismatic, funny and clever songwriters out there. I can't get enough of this song and video. For those who aren't familiar with the saying "Are you lookin at me?" it's a Glasgow (Scottish?) opener if you are challenging someone to a fight He uses it here though to tell his story of moving to Australia as a teen from Scotland and when he went to America for the first time as a "star" The lyrics and performance is, well just bloody brilliant!
"From the crackle of the cane, to the frown of a big black snake From the breakers at Bondi, down to Wallaga Lake From the sound of a million fly screen doors, closing on the past..""Hay is a consummate songwriter, who's only gotten better with age" webpage

Here's a song from his latest album.
" Some of the songs are based on Colin’s personal experiences such as “Waiting in the Rain,” written about his parents and the almost mystical experience he had growing up in a music shop in Scotland, surrounded by instruments and a constant stream of 50′s and 60′s radio hits.

Saw him at the fringe last August. I think he was on for ten days or so (only for around an hour each show) and he was saying it was the closest he had come to having a job in many decades! He is on in April and May in the UK and I booked tickets to see him in Gateshead. His voice is in excellent condition and his wife and some very talented South American musicians joined on stage in August. Some really nice Cuban music thrown in if you are into that sort of thing. Well worth attending if you get the chance...

. Living as I do in the northern hemisphere it must be weird to spend January as the middle of summer down under Given a choice - highly unlikely, I would stay here for Xmas and then hop on a plane to a brighter clime for Jan and Feb possibly the first half of March and then reappear in Blighty.

One of my favorite bands. I remember when Men at Work performed on either the American Music Awards or the Grammy Awards or some awards show in 1982. I was in high school doing homework and my Father called to me, "Steven, that flute player you love is on TV". I ran into the room and there's Colin singing, "ya better-better run..ya betta take cover!" I said, "Dad, that is the OTHER flute player I love!" I loved that version they played that night. I've always loved the recorded version and the remix to that song. But, the live version added more to the song. TANELORN RULES!
My wife liked this show called, Grey's Anatomy, I think it was that. One evening, long time ago, Colin Hay is walking through the ER, I suppose it was, singing some old MAW song. Thought it was very cool. Anyone remember that?
