I think I heard that it was Charles' idea to get Tull when Bowie or the Who cancelled on his charity gig in 1982...plus he had some dealings with Ian about salmon farm employment, I think. That's enough info for me to think he'll be a good king.

A very sad time - and so sudden, although she was 96. We drove through Windsor in the old Jag yesterday and there was a reassuring sense of shared respect for someone who was clearly a fan of heavy horses As for Prince Charles, I have high hopes for him - anyone who can bring together Jethro Tull and Phil Collins has potential RIP Your Majesty

IN MEMORY OF ERIC BROOKS We learned only recently of the sad passing of 1970s Tull tour manager, Eric Brooks. Eric joined us for a few years beginning in 1970 and and established some of the tour protocols still with us today. His inclination to break into cockney songs and jokes kept all amused during the rigorous touring schedules. His term for hotel departure times - “leap-off” - is still used today, usually shortened to “leap”.
Happily a few of his songs and memories are to be found on YouTube still.

Wilko Johnson: Dr Feelgood guitarist dies, aged 75Wilko Johnson, whose machine-gun guitar style and manic stage presence was a major influence on punk, has died. The musician found fame with the 1970s pub-rock band Dr Feelgood, and later played with Ian Dury before embarking on a four-decade solo career. He also starred in two series of Game Of Thrones as the mute executioner Ser Ilyn Payne. Ten years ago he survived what was initially diagnosed as a terminal case of pancreatic cancer. The musician refused chemotherapy to embark on a farewell tour. "The decision was quite easy - chemotherapy could do no more than extend my life for a relatively short period and I thought I'd just rather enjoy the health that was left to me," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. However, later tests discovered that the guitarist's pancreatic cancer was in fact a rare and less aggressive neuroendocrine tumour. He underwent a radical, 11-hour operation that removed his pancreas, spleen and parts of his stomach and intestines, and was declared cancer-free in 2014.
