Pete Whalley writes …
‘Relegation’ to the Reds ‘second billing’ stage due the clash with Steve Hackett actually did Ian Anderson a massive favour. The low roofed, sweaty club-like venue fitted his revisiting of Tull’s formative years hand in glove.
And while we know Anderson’s vocal ability has declined, it didn’t seem such a big deal in this intimate setting and minus recent vocal ‘minder’ Ryan O’Donnell. And he was was in tremendous form on flute and harmonica, cavorting around the stage like a youngster. Even the normally restrained Florian Opahle, played like a man possessed.
If ever proof were needed that you’re never to old to rock and roll, then this was it – a supercharged set that closed with one of the best versions of ‘Locomotive Breath’ I’ve been privileged to witness, and a weekend highlight, for sure.

The Municipality of Gouveia, which promotes the festival, said in a note released today that it was not held in 2016 but is returning to the Cine Theater in May. "The biggest progressive rock festival in Portugal is back in 2017, with the confirmed presence of Jethro Tull," said the autarchy, noting that "it is completing the full schedule of the event, which will be announced shortly." The group Jethro Tull advances in its official web page that will act in Gouveia, on May 7. The municipality of Gouveia clarifies that the purchase of tickets will only be possible from the presentation of the full program of the festival. The purchase of tickets will be made online, through "a reservation request", to be confirmed by the organization, indicating the method of payment. Tickets can be sent by CTT or picked up at the ticket office of Teatro Cine de Gouveia, according to the local authority. Gouveia Art Rock is an annual progressive music festival that has been held in this city since 2003. Organized by the municipality of Gouveia, in the region of Serra da Estrela, "it has become, in recent years, a reference festival of progressive music on a world scale," says the organization. "Gouveia Art Rock is a totally pioneering idea in Portugal, being the only event dedicated to progressive rock or related genres," he concludes. Gouveia is, so far, the only stage in Portugal, on the 50-year tour of Scottish band Ian Anderson, according to its website. Scheduled to start on 17th, in Slovakia, the tour will go through Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, before Portugal. Germany, Spain, Norway, Finland, Belgium and the Czech Republic will follow the concert in the Serra da Estrela, from June to September. Formed in 1967, the Jethro Tull featured prominently in the 1970s with albums such as "Aqualung" (1971), "Thick as a Brick" (1972), "War Child" (1974) and "Songs from the Wood "(1977). Later albums such as "Under Wraps" (1984), "Rock Island" (1989), "J-Tull Dot Com" (1999) and "The Jethro Tull Christmas Album" (2003) testify to the band's activity. The previous editions of Gouveia Art Rock have brought to the stage of the Cine Theater "the most important names in the international avant-garde music scene of the last four decades" such as Peter Hammill, Robert Fripp, Magma, Amon Düül II, Richard Sinclair, Guy Pratt, Musica Nuda, Pat Mastelotto & Markus Reuter (Tuner), Univers Zero, Arena, Present, Lars Hollmer or Miriodor.

www.basellandschaftlichezeitung.ch/Final countdown takes place at the Riverside OpenairOltner Tagblatt02.04.2017 at 06:00 The bands Europe, Jethro Tull and Blackstone Cherry are the three headliners at the Riverside Openair in Aarburg. The Riverside Openair in Aarburg has grown over the last years to a festival size in the region. After the early bird tickets were sold out within two weeks for the Openair from 1 to 3 September, it is now clear who will be the headliners at the biggest rock 'n' roll festival in Switzerland. The spectators can look forward to three real rock shows, when the festival invites you directly to the Aare, with a castle in the background for celebrating. www.basellandschaftlichezeitung.ch/solothurn/olten/final-countdown-tritt-am-riverside-openair-auf-130939412Jethro Tull with Best-of
These two bands are joined by the legendary Ian Anderson to Aarburg. Jethro Tull is the only internationally successful rock band in whose music the transverse flute plays a major role. Standing on one leg, the other slightly angled, the transverse flute in his hand, a tailcoat, ecstasy. He also plays balalaika, harmonica, various flutes, soprano saxophone, bouzouki, bass, mandolin and many other instruments. A conglomerate of rock, world music, classical music, folk, jazz and blues arises in this way. And thus a completely own style, which is difficult to pack in drawers.
Ian Anderson is so virtuosic that one could almost assign a genre of his own. His album Homo Erraticus appeared in April 2014 and opened the audience to new sound environments in Anderson style. Now the Brit is on the go with a best-of-program. After international classics such as "Thick as a Brick" and "Locomotive Breath", which Anderson published together with his band Jethro Tull, the musician has by no means lost energy over the years. Thirty albums have now Jethro Tull in their discography, worldwide tours included. (Mgt / otr)

So the name Jethro Tull is used now for all shows. With an album to be released in 2018, looks like the PR has been clarified.

So the name Jethro Tull is used now for all shows. With an album to be released in 2018, looks like the PR has been clarified. The "rebranding" of the official website supports this. Possibly this is because 2017 looks like a "best of" year, with the promised new album for 2018 a distinct probability when it should revert back to the emphasis on "Ian Anderson". Anyone else reckon we've seen the last of JT The Rock Opera ?

Just bought our tickets for the 2017 JETHRO TULL performed by Ian Anderson tour! This one a very recently announced 15 August date in upstate NY (Canandaigua) at a lovely outdoor venue.
Perhaps more summer dates will be announced for the USA dates as it seems odd they'll play in Europe up until 22 July then back to Europe in starting 23 September, wouldn't be very cost effective to come back over for one gig!

I know this sounds arrogant and self-serving...but I actually don't mind paying high price for Tull in USA if it allows them to go to places like Slovakia where they break even, at best. Tull in the former east is so cool. I hope, someway. somehow, i see Tull in Russia or Moldavia or soemwhere like that...and even if i don't, I hope part of my ticket cost in California keeps them on the road to amazing gigs in such cool places.

Can't speak for others, but for me, if I was touring and was doing OK financially, then I'd take a chance to do some concerts in some country that was just financially "break even", because of the chance to explore, spread the music more, meet more people, etc. As for hiking prices in one area to pay for trips in another.......who knows, if it's reasonable to the fan base. People have been pulling money out of one area to take to others on this planet, since time began and someone had a boat to move the gold in. Or silver. Or furs. Or oil. Or iPads. Or space ships. Ripping off the Earth to pay Martian wages. When's that going to hit the fan in Washington? LOL
