www.dn.se/kultur-noje/konsertrecensioner/ian-anderson-jethro-tull-the-rock-opera-pa-cirkus/Ian Anderson: "Jethro Tull - The Rock Opera" at the CircusPUBLISHED 10:43 The plot is confusing, but the flute rock poses is iconic. The legendary rock journalist Nick Kent dismissed once Jethro Tull as "Blues for students who do not wash." The songs he thought he was boring as "the study of agrarian reform in the 1800s." The latter comparison chose Nick Kent probably because the band's name comes from the agronomist Jethro Tull, who in 1701 invented a drill that modernized the British agriculture. People's Progressive band from Luton were not concerned with his namesake during his forty-year career (it was not they but their agent who came to what they should be called) but now, two years after the split, touring frontman Ian Anderson with a rock opera about Jethro Tull life. The action has shifted to the present and agronomist has become a scientist genmodifierar crops in a laboratory to stop the famine. Soon, he is seized by a longing for the bygone days of small-scale cultivation - I think. Exactly what the story is about is unclear. Anderson is a better flutist than the narrator. On a video screen behind the band portrays actor Jethro Tull and his wife. They sing - along with Ian Anderson - slightly modified versions of the band's most famous songs, as well as a bunch of newly written songs to patch up the confused plot. Dramaturgically it is a disaster. Musically, it's great. Ian Anderson gets the notes to danger like colorful streamers from the flute. Sixty-eight year old boy leaps as a bearded gnome across the stage and takes the iconic Jethro Tull-pose: standing on the right leg with the left dangling in the air, a bit like transformed the park in "The Karate Kid". When the other musicians playing solos he paws around, cranks schamanistiskt hands and humping with the flute as if it were a chromed penis. The band alternates between heavy boogie metal, as in the classic "Aqualung", and sheer folk who "Weather Cock". Sometimes it gets a little masturbation drastically but the band does not lose its cozy, småfunkiga rocking. And it is never boring - especially when Ian Anderson's graying fans may be feeling and playing air flute.

Jethro Tull, minus Jethro Tull, to play Balboa TheatreTull mastermind Ian Anderson will perform some of his dormant band’s most popular songs with an otherwise Tull-free band and a new/old ecological-minded twist. By George Varga | 12:36 p.m. March 14, 2016 | Updated, 12:41 p.m. Who needs Jethro Tull to perform some of Jethro Tull’s most popular songs and new songs saluting Jethro Tull? Not Jethro Tull co-founder and mastermind Ian Anderson. On Oct. 17, the veteran singer, flutist, guitarist and songwriter will star in “Jethro Tull, written and performed by Ian Anderson” at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre. That is the same venue where Anderson, now 68, performed the entirely Tull-focused 2012 concert “Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson Plays ‘Thick As A Brick’ 1 & 2.” Now, as was the case four years ago, Anderson is the only member of the dormant Tull who will appear on stage. He’ll be accompanied by four musicians and, on a large video screen, by singer Ryan O’Donnell and singer/violinist/actress Unnur Birna Björnsdóttir. Tickets go on sale Friday to the general public. The absence of Tull may seem curious — and disappointing to fans of Tull, which was launched in late 1967 and has been inactive since 2011. Then again, in 2012 Tull guitarist Martin Barre launched his own Tull cover band, New Day, so maybe Anderson is simply playing catch-up. (Barre has blamed Tull’s artistic stagnation as the reason for the band’s apparent dissolution and his decision to start his own, Tull-oriented group.) But Anderson has added a few twists. His concert here will mix Tull classics (including “Aqualung,” “Wind-Up,” “Locomotive Breath,” “A New Day Yesterday” and “Living in the Past”) with new songs (including “And The World Feeds Me,” “Prosperous Pasture,” “Fruits Of Frankenfield,” “Stick, Twist, Bust” and “The Turnstile Gate”). Moreover, the concert takes its title from the life and times of Jethro Tull, the real-life English agriculturalist, who died in 1741 and whose name inspired that of the band Jethro Tull. How are the two Tulls combined? To quote from a press release, Anderson “re-imagines his namesake with a narrative set in the near future. The show presents some of the best known songs from the repertoire of the band Jethro Tull.” (Some of the classic Tull songs feature “slightly re-written lyrics to better tell the tale.) “In ‘Jethro Tull’,” the release continues, “Anderson touches on topical issues including climate change, intensive food production and population growth.” With Anderson at he helm, the show “Jethro Tull” has already toured in various European countries and parts of North America, Anderson, it may be worth recalling, used to own and operate one of the UK’s most successful salmon farms and factories. It may also be worth recalling that, for years, many casual Jethro Tull fans thought Anderson’s name was indeed Jethro Tull (much as some Pink Floyd fans used to ask: “Which one is Pink?”) At the very least, “Jethro Tull, written and performed by Ian Anderson” should allow him to partly set the record straight.

You may remember that Bernie 'won' 4 tickets to this. I also 'won' 4 tickets three times, so did my brother, my daughter and my mother!!! We are really lucky. The bottom line is that there is little or no accommodation in Pwllhelli outside of the old holiday park. The costs of staying were far to high for 4 of us sharing - total rip off to be honest - I'll be there in spirit but wont get 'done' on youve WON and but have to pay a small fortune to stay promo's. Cheaper to fly to the states!!
