Thanks for that prestonplatform. Think I might be tempted to purchase a copy. My only quibble would be the "milking" of the back catalogue by yet another ex-member but hey - there're all good songs.

I saw the gig yesterday and I have to say: What a great band. Don Airey wrote some really good stuff, not that typical keyboarder sound. All musicians are excellent and the show is highly recommended.

Clive was drummer to Johnny Fean's ( of Horslips) band around London in the nineties I think. Now there was a gig I would have surely enjoyed..

Another disc from Clive's post Tull activities which I have on vinyl but it appears it's on CD, most likely by now deleted. Anyway it's probably one for completists: From prog Archives www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1506AVIATOR was founded in 1978 by Jack Lancaster (saxophone, flute, lyricon, synthesizer) and Mick Rogers (guitar & lead vocals) with the copilotes Clive Bunker (drums) and John G. Perry (bass & vocals). All four musicians already had an impressive background in different bands. Jack Lancaster had played with: BLODWYN PIG, the MICK ABRAHAMS BAND and the SOUL SEARCHERS, Mick Rogers with: MANFRED MANN'S EARTHBAND, Clive Bunker with: JETHRO TULL, BLODWYN PIG and STEVE HILLAGE, John G. Perry with: CARAVAN and QUANTUM JUMP. They played a mixture of straightforward Rock songs alternating with instrumental Jazz-Rock passages reminiscing COLOSSEUM and BLODWYN PIG, Jack Lancaster gave the band a typical sound with the lyricon and soprano saxophone. The weak point was Mick Rogers's vocals.
In early 1979 AVIATOR released their first record named "Aviator" on Harvest/Electrola, coproduced by the band and Robin Lumley from BRAND-X. All tracks were cosigned by the band. The tracks are all different ranging from straightforward Rock to Jazz-Rock and Pop. They went then on a European Tour as a support act for Steve HILLAGE and in the summer of 1979 they did some festivals and venues in Germany, where they did also a public broadcast for the famous WDR radio in Cologne. The tape of the show proves what an excellent live band they had been. On stage they showed their talent, especially in the longer instrumental passages. After the tour Jack Lancaster left the band. The remaining trio recorded their second and last record "Turbulence", released in 1980, with the help of Vivienne McAuliffe, Carol Stocker and Betsy Cook on background vocals. Again all tracks but one, a Dylan cover "get your rocks off", were cosigned by the band. It is still a good record, more straightforward Rock, but less interesting without the sound of Lancaster's sax-playing. All four musicians played together again on Lancaster's 1981 Solo Record "Skinningrove Bay". The first record "Aviator" is highly recommended.Track listing: Your Loving Is My Home Keep Your Heart Right Evil Eye Time Traveller Silver Needles Cleveland Ohio Country Morning Greed Morning Journey Must say that listening to it today it's pretty good and well worth hunting it down if you have the time.

I remember this album. I also remember a band with Barriemore Barlow and David Palmer shortly after the "big split" but I do not remember the name. Jeff The group was called Tallis. Formed in 1980 with David/Dee Palmer, Barrie Barlow and John Evan + others. Dave Rees was hoping to release it back in 2001 (for charity) and one track was released on "It's For You", a cover mount CD with A New Day. The track was titled "Disturbed Air". I expect that, and this is only my honest opinion, that animosity between former band members reared its ugly head and the release was shelved. I'll attempt to find out more - if I'm successful I'll report back, most likely in the "holy grail" thread.

I remember looking at the album at Rickel's/TruValue Home Center -- that's right the defunct Rickel's had a record department -- but, for some reason, not buying it at the time -- probably because I didn't have the money and figured I would buy it at a later date. (Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, it may have been Korvettes, another defunct department store.) Then, I was never able to find it again. If it had DP, JE and BB, how bad could it have been? It must have been Korvettes!

There is a slight possibility I am confusing it with the Aviator LP, but I don't think so, because the album I saw at the Korvettes music department in Lake Grove, New York definitely had Barriemore Barlow and David Palmer on it, not Clive Bunker. I do know that I was never able to ever find it again though. Is it possible there was some initial release that was then aborted? Jeff

It must have been Korvettes! I have a very good memory, TM, as we know from the Eddie Jobson affair. (BTW, Eddie is playing at BB Kings in August I believe.) I know I picked up that Tallis album, looked at it, saw that BB and DP were on it, but then put it back on the shelf and was never able to find it again. There must have been some advance release, because my memory on this is very clear. It was definitely at the Korvettes department store in Lake Grove, NY, not Rickels, although Rickels definitely did have a music section too. I know this because, as a 15 year-old, I rode my blue Schwinn bicycle with the banana seat to that old Rickels store in Stony Brook (Lake Grove?) in 1976 and purchased my first Tull album ever there, Too Old to Rock and Roll, soon after it was released, took it home and delighted in lyrics such as "She's a warm fart at Christmas" and "I've got a tenner in my skin tight jeans." If BB was not the drummer for Tallis, as a previous post suggests, then is it possible I am confusing Tallis with Barrie's band Tandorri Cassette, which I also remember from around the same time? I don't think so because I recall that the album I saw at Korvettes had at least two former Tull members, so that would still bring me back to Tallis, which had both DP and John Evan.

Found this amongst my collection of Tull goodies yesterday - it's from 2007: The three songs on the album are 1. Fire On The Line - (R. Kemp) 2. This Has Got To End - (R. Jackson & C. Harcourt) 3. False Hands (Across The Table) - (D. Morter) The tour ran from 31 October in Bacup, Lancashire to 5 December in Worcester.

A couple of Clive's albums. The first from Jackie Mcauley (Them et al) featuring Clive on drums and a friend of mine, Pete Fyffe, on mandolin. The second from 1998, his solo offering via AND Records and featuring Martin Barre and Ian Anderson on selected tracks Clive has also featured on some other AND albums, amongst them are: Blodwyn Pig - Pig In The Middle Solstice - Circles Jackie Lynton - Pinboard Wizards Vikki Clayton - Honor Takened
