"We'll make a man of him, put him to trade teach him to play Monopoly, how to sing in the rain." - Ian Anderson lyric from Thick As A Brick
I always thought that the lyrics above was inspired by the song Singing in the rain... and what else could it be, but I haven't got the evidence to be absolutely sure about that... I love these lines, because I see this as a general human condition, or problem if you may... To keep our sunny side up, when we are actually crying inside...
Of course, negative thoughts produces negative feelings, so it may sometimes be a good idea to push those negative thoughts away, and replace them with positive thoughts... but I believe that singing in the rain, or the fooling of the self, if you may, can cause a lot of trouble...
Sometimes we need to acknowledge that something is wrong, in order to change what isn't right... To sing in the rain, to accept general bad conditions, and block any attempts to break free from a sad and unrewarding condition... Anthony Robbins once said: "Dissatisfaction is a gem."
He goes on to say, that people won't do anything to make their life better, before they at least get a little dissatisfied with how it is right now... We have to be at least a little dissatisfied in order to change our life's for the better... Just trying to solve a puzzle...

From Robert Graves I Claudius:
Senator: "You are not fit to be Emperor!"
Claudius: "I agree. But nor was my nephew."
Senator: "So what difference is there between you?"
Claudius: "He would not have agreed. And by now your head would be on that floor for saying so."

"The mind acts like an enemy, for those who do not control it." -Lord Krishna to Arjuna, The Bhagavad GitaI'd just like to say something to the above statement... First of all, I do believe that Krishna is absolutely right... The mind has a tendency to act like an enemy... It matters how we interpret the world, for it will lead to action... and inaction... but inaction can also be seen as a form of action, the act of doing nothing... I actually believe that your mind can kill you... We are therefore threatened by all sides... The enemy within, and the enemy at the gate... but sometimes the perceived enemy is not an enemy at all, but merely a manifestation of our own negativity... To destroy a perceived enemy, we need to destroy, or change our interpretation, and the perceived enemy will disappear... So, is it possible to control the mind, and if yes... How can it be done, and is it even a good idea? Yet, this statement is from The Bhagavad Gita, and this is the book that Mahatma Ghandi read every day, and used as a guiding light, in almost all of his actions... In other words... This is taken from a book that in my view changed so much... or in the hands and mind of Mahatma Ghandi led to stunningly surprising conclusions, and results... (... I know... it's an interpretation...) but if a wise man like Mahatma Ghandi thought that it was so important, I want to know why... So, what about me? Am I in control of this dangerous "helper" called the mind? Well, maybe it's not that bad concerning my thinking, but I do believe that a very big part of my thinking, is simply wrong... So, a lot of what we believe about anything at all, is an illusion... simply because it's wrong... The events didn't take place the way I imagine, you didn't steal the book... I also believe that there is no reality... There is no good or bad... This means that any interpretation is also an illusion... If we decide that Jethro Tull is a great band... We are not talking about Jethro Tull, but our own unique experience of Jethro Tull... There is no inherent meaning in anything... or that is what I believe... Jethro Tull is not a great band, and it's not a bad band... It's like writing on a blank piece of paper... The paper represents all that we encounter through our life... Every event of our life is blank when it comes to any meaning what so ever... Take anything... It snows... Is it good, or bad? You decide... but if we think that the snow in itself is good, or bad, and if we cannot see that it's just an interpretation, then we have a very grave problem on our hands... We now have to live our life in what I call the interpretation lock mode. We look at something, and the interpretation, and the event is immediately perceived as one... We cannot change the interpretation, because we believe that we have found the truth about the matter... When this becomes like a knee jerk reaction, we lose the ability to control the mind, and guide it in a more fruitful direction, or to give the events of everyday life, more powerful interpretations...

"There is no end of the rainbow, really. Matter of fact, it's round, and therefore endless." - Equus This is actually true... You can reproduce a rainbow yourself... All you need is a sunny day, and a garden hose... Pres down on the tip of the garden hose so that the water is spreading thin... (...how do you say that in English??) The rainbow will appear right in front of you... Now follow it all the way round, and you will see that the rainbow forms a perfect circle... I can't help thinking about this whenever I hear the Jethro Tull tune Rover... When Ian Anderson sings these lines: "The long road is a rainbow, and the pot of gold lies there." Somebody who were living in the past, probably knew that the rainbow is a circle, and therefore endless, and somehow the saying came about that there's a pot of gold at the end... that's like saying that you will be back when there is two Mondays the same week, or when the moon turns into a green cheese... or in other words... You will never be back... Okay... You talked me into it... Here it is again... The wonderfull Jethro Tull tune, Rover!!

"Let the good vibes get a lot stronger." - Laid Back
Don't take me too seriously... I personally don't... but some of these Buddhists are very wise indeed... You cannot stand on A, and at the same time be standing on B... or in other words... you cannot be angry and happy at the same time... You cannot think angry thoughts, and positive thoughts at the same time, and positive thoughts create positive feelings... Negative thoughts create negative feelings... Singing this eliminates angry and negative thoughts and therefore changes how you feel... It's simply impossible to sing this, and think negative thoughts at the same time ... I'm not on a mission though... easy now... Too me it's just a way to direct my thoughts in a more positive direction, and actively create positivity... Avalokiteshvara is especialy the Buddha of compassion... The focus is to cultivate compassion for all sentient beings... even the tiniest spider... maybe not so much for the sake of the spider, but because any kind of negativity generated by our own thoughts, and attitudes holds us in the grip of negativity...

"Kill them with kindness." - Shakespeare
Explanation found on the internet... There could be other explanations somewhere outthere... This is one of them...
"Killing them with kindness does not mean you are actually killing them. It means that, when someone is causing you trouble you don't show that it is bothering you. You smile and pile on the kindness. Eventually, the theory goes, the person will stop bothering you..."

"“You must have chaos within you, to give birth to a dancing star.” " - Friedrich Nietzsche
This statement by Friedrich Nietzsche has very much influenced my thinking, though I must admit that I'm not sure if I understand it at all... So maybe it's my own wrong understanding that I am influenced by... something that I very strongly believe, very often is the case... but whenever I have something that I want to investigate, a thought, a concept, I will try to create extreme uncertainty... I deliberately try to create chaos... The method is to bombard my thinking with opposite and opposing ideas about the subject that I want to investigate... It's like aggressively going after my own belief system with an "imaginary ax of thoughts"... This very often creates extreme uncertainty... When this extreme uncertainly is established, the first goal is established... Chaos... That's usually when you hear me talking pure nonsense... but I believe that if this chaos of colliding ideas isn't established and widened to the extreme... the miracle of real insight and knowledge may never happen, or maybe it simply won't happen at all... In other words... I will not, in the long run, be able to give birth to a dancing star... Because uncertainly and chaos is the first goal, uncertainly and chaos will never stop me... So if I'm really, and extremely bewildered, I consider myself to be on the right track...

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." - Confucius
The Tortoise, and the Hare:
One day a hare was bragging about how fast he could run. He bragged and bragged and even laughed at the tortoise, who was so slow. The tortoise stretched out his long neck and challenged the hare to a race, which, of course, made the hare laugh. "My, my, what a joke!" thought the hare.
"A race, indeed, a race. Oh! what fun! My, my! a race, of course, Mr. Tortoise, we shall race!" said the hare. The forest animals met and mapped out the course. The race begun, and the hare, being such a swift runner, soon left the tortoise far behind. About halfway through the course, it occurred to the hare that he had plenty of time to beat the slow trodden tortoise. "Oh, my!" thought the hare, I have plenty of time to play in the meadow here." And so he did.
After the hare finished playing, he decided that he had time to take a little nap. "I have plenty of time to beat that tortoise," he thought. And he cuddle up against a tree and dozed. The tortoise, in the meantime, continued to plod on, albeit, it ever so slowly. He never stopped, but took one good step after another.
The hare finally woke from his nap. "Time to get going," he thought. And off he went faster than he had ever run before! He dashed as quickly as anyone ever could up to the finish line, where he met the tortoise, who was patiently awaiting his arrival.
"There is always someone who is faster than me, better than me, more intelligent than me... Personally I don't even consider myself to be very intelligent, but I have made this story a way of life... I am the Tortoise!" - Equus
