Love this song... I don't remember exactly when I heard it the very first time. I think that it was when the warchild album was made available with bonus tracks that I heard it the first time. I thought that this was a lost Jethro Tull treasure, coming up to the surface again. Catfish Rising! Great to hear a song that came from this period. It has a surrealistic feel to it.
Rainbow Blues:
Through northern lights on back streets I told the coachman, "Just drive me on, It's the same old destination but a different world to sing upon." So he threw back his head and he counted. I jumped out about five to nine.
And I waved at the stage door-keeper said, "Mister, get me to the stage on time." Oh, but the rain wasn't made of water and the snow didn't have a place in the sun so I slipped behind a rainbow and waited till the show had done.
I packed my ammunition. Inside the crowd was shouting, "Encore",
But I had a most funny feeling it wasn't me they were shouting for. So when the tall dark lady smiled at me I said, "Oh, baby let us go for a ride." And we came upon two drinks or four and popped them oh so neatly inside.
Oh, but the rain wasn't made of water and the snow didn't have a place in the sun so we slipped behind a rainbow and lay there until we had done.
Let me pack you deep in my suitcase. Oh, there's sure to be room for two or you can drive me to the airplane but don't let me catch those rainbow blues.

Blackmore's Night did a cover of Rainbow Blues along with Pastime with Good Company.
Any Thoughts?

It's a very cool song...made buying 'M.U.' back in 1975, worth it ( the only other highlight being a new bit of tambourine on locomotive Breath !)...Blackmore version very nice.

Ian Anderson talks about larger flutes... sex, drugs and Rock 'N' Roll... and keeping young violinists chained up in the back of the bus... but avoids mentioning Dave Pegg's alleged and unseemingly relationship with farm animals... and of course, why Martin always smells so badly...

Hah! Great Cross Eyed Mary cover by Maiden! Fun. --Ron-- Glad you liked it! Cross Eyed Mary is a bit heavy in the first place, but can be played even heavier than Jethro Tull's version... The amazing thing about music, is that any song, any tune can be transformed into rock, heavy rock, classical music, folk... I have written some music, and if I play a song on the guitar, most people would say that I have written a folk tune, but when the same tune is played by a band, most people would say that I have written a Rock 'N' Roll tune. I'd like to play you a song that I have written. It was inspired by Marion Zimmer Bradley's book The Mists Of Avalon, and that's why the song is called The Mists Of Avalon... It's not the best recording, but it's not unbearable... I sing and play the acoustic guitar... This is one of the tunes that I have written that I actually like... So, here it is... The Mists Of Avalon...

I really dug that! Not sure if you guessed I would considering I like Jethro Tull and D&D. You voice has a nice soothing quality in that song, even though it tells of adventure. Kind of cool and bard like. Thanks for sharing! --Ron--

So, if there's anybody out there with a band, feel free to play this little baby of mine... And give it a lot of electric guitar...

Light music CD in car...the last couple minutes of rocks on the road sounded great...Martin playing authentic blues guitar and Ian using otherwise hokey echo effect just just right!!!!

Both Nightcap tracks haunting and a pleasure to hear again after scandalous gap. An easy image to imagine is wistful Ian looking out the window of an airplane at the 'no step' stencil on the wing.

I don't want to be me:
Got a grand house out in the country. Marble pillars holding the door. Empty bottles lining the wall from the night before. Got a Roller out in the garage. But the wheels are stuck to the floor. Got no reason to go anywhere--no friends call anymore. I don't want to be me, I don't want to be me, I know it's hard to see, But I don't want to be me.
Had me playing down at the palace. I was declared the belle of the ball. Made the boys take my goods and chattels away-- now I'm staring at an empty hall. I don't want to be me.
Pardon me--I'm on my way. Pardon me but I'm going. Taking on the simple life and I feel the grass roots growing. I'm going to ride the ragged road-- diamond spurs jangling into the sunset. No circuits running overload--Well maybe I'm not done yet.
Now there's nothing left in the cupboard and three bears' been eating my soup. My life is one big critical mess if you take a look. And the butler's off in Ibiza on expense account gone berserk. But I can't check out of this crazy world without being a jerk--I don't want to be me.
