I love this song... mainly because of the lyrics... The what's in it for me factor... In dealing with people, I have found this to be very true... Everyone is, maybe not much, but always a little, interested in the what's in it for me factor... Take it away Nazareth!!

Now, Ian may say that Thick As A Brick was a spoof, but to me this is much more than a spoof... To me Thick As A Brick hits it right on the nail... The world is crazy, and the craziness doesn't stop... it's ongoing.... The way people treat each other... No escape, absolutely no escape... like a very bad dream, a surrealistic nightmare... Suddenly I realized that there was a reason for the way I felt about the world... If this is Ian "just" trying to be funny, or "just" trying to create a spoof, I must say that he didn't succeed... and that is a compliment... I didn't feel that we had a chance to put it right, when I first heard Thick As A Brick... I felt the closing of a door... that we were doomed in each other's company...

Oh, by the way... only cowards have friends... No, I don't mean it that seriously, but you can lose sight of who you really are, trying to make friends... Here's some lyrics that I once wrote... as always... feel free to disagree... Only cowards have friends: Only cowards have friends You sell out your soul just to become one of them and only cowards have friends... When we were walking home from school You bullied somebody that you barely knew but I don't like to be cruel... We were running in a gang I never knew that I had a chance To be the one that I wanted to be... but that was always up to me... 'Cause only cowards have friends You sell out your soul just to become one of them and only cowards have friends... You are not like me... and I am not like you, anymore... You push me around, when the teacher doesn't see... but I have chosen to be free...

Yes and No When you compromise your own personal integrity and agree with everyone you can have lots of friends.
When you feel the LOVE and let it shine, you can have REAL Friends...
On a side note, I remember watching Joe Cocker in Woodstock for the first time at a theater in 1973. Of all the performers he seemed so beyond his limit that day. Thank god I was able to see this with my friends.

Sorry I was mean to Cros...I was having a bad day at work...Actually admire him a ton ( ha ha) for digging out of deepest drug trenches and returning to great songs and live concerts. In his darkest days he was a customer of the institution where I work....so maybe that's why I struck out at him from rough work day...anyway...David Crosby is a rare happy ending from the dark side of the drug wars.

Sorry I was mean to Cros... I was having a bad day at work...Actually admire him a ton ( ha ha) Nobody's perfect. I admire him for his open mind and concern for the world. Crosby is also the author of three books including Stand and Be Counted: LINK Making Music, Making History/The Dramatic Story of the Artists and Causes That Changed America, which underscores his commitment to social activism, and belief that artists and musicians are potent agents for change. Crosby’s two autobiographical volumes are Long Time Gone and Since Then: How I Survived Everything And Lived To Tell About It. The latter, per Entertainment Weekly, chronicles, “A fascinating life worthy of a sequel.”

This song originally didn't make it on the Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! album... It's just incredible... Ian has written so many tunes... So much talent, and the ongoing effort is unfathomable!! Ian you make me cry... We can't thank you enough!! Take it away!!!

I think the people of Manchester got it spot on after the minutes silence for the victims of the attack on 22nd May. There are good peace loving people on this forum, and I salute them! I don't believe that's what we need right now... but I do believe that most people won't go to war too easily... When people sing these songs spontaneously I actually believe that that's a very clear sign that war is coming... and that it's coming very soon... I believe that this kind of reaction to the appalling atrocities that people are experiencing all over the world, is a prelude to war... I believe that this is good people trying to cling on to peace... I believe, that this is singing peace loving lovable people who doesn't want to be dragged into a war, but unconsciously they know that's it coming... They probably wouldn't sing something like that, if they didn't at least unconsciously knew that it's coming... The war is forced upon us, and we will have to face up to those who kill and maim the ones that we love... If the politicians fail to hit the terrorists hard and effectively, far right politicians eventually will, and that's probably one of the most dangerous scenarios, and something that should be avoided, at all costs... We all remember Adolf Hitler, and we now face the real possibility that someone like that will take over the power in one, or maybe more, European countries, if we don't get this under control...
