Sorry SM I forgot. Thought Martin was off to New Zealand to play with IA on the last night of the 2014 tour. This would be a very exciting news, if it's true. A new Ian cooperation with Martin ... Don't start that off Chea

I reckon Martin needs to go to his local bank, and ask if there are any accounts in his name that he doesn't use, he will find one that is called "Tull Stuff", and it will have about £5,000,000 in it... ...he will then be able to retire quietly.... ....and give up the £10 gigs

I think Martin and crew were looking for somewhere to stay. They were playing Newcastle the following night and said to the owners, we'll play a cheap gig and you put us up for the night. He dosn't need the money and and plays mostly for the love of it. OWD

Well caught The Reeth gig at Buck Hotel. The tickets were priced accordingly because i beleive because this was a very short notice addition to his current tour dates.
What can i say but thats unquestionly the best ive ever heard Martin Play. He looked very relaxed ,his banter was very funny/entertaining.
His band are a bunch of fantastic players who really look like they are genuinely having a good time. Probably 1 of Martins smallest venues hes played but the room was full and bouncing from start to finish.
Versions of Teacher,New Day Yesterday,Sweet Dream,Minstrel,Fat Man were the meatiest ive heard . The mixed cover versions worked superbly ,all in all a superb night .

Amazing photography indeed! Thanks for posting this Remy
I believe this 2 night performance was billed as a private event in Munich November 25th & 26th. This hotel was a World Class place to be no matter how large the actual club or audience.
Whatever happens in the future, Martin Barre has done it his way. Being a World Class Musician.

www.thebluesalone.nl/2014/10/26/een-minstreel-daalt-neer-de-bosuil-martin-barre-unchained/A minstrel descends into the Tawny Martin Barre unchained By Frank Hurkmans on October 26, 2014
Martin Barre Band played on October 24, 2014 The Tawny Owl , Weert. Text by Frank Sand with pictures of them Metsemakers.
Martin Barre Band is making an intensive European tour. Martin Barre, of course, known for his critical and recognizable contributions to the legendary band Jethro Tull, is making a remarkable phase of his musical life. Under the yoke of Ian Anderson from Barre want good music IMGP6829with his own band. The occupation coexists Barre from the highly renowned bassist Alan Thomson, the young drummer George Lindsay and singer / guitarist Dan Crisp.
The understated Alan Thomson is known to us because of his 25 years of service at the too young deceased John Martyn. Martyn was a pioneer that the boundaries between folk, jazz, blues and rock merged into a unique kind of music. Alan Thomson has made a substantial contribution to this IMGP9304comes and has a recognizable, tight and to the point style of bass. At least as we remember him from the many Martyn albums and attended performances of the eighties. George Lindsay is very active on the live circuit in the UK. Dan Crisp has an album, Far From Here (2008) to his name; an album play several ex-members of the John Martyn Band.
The work of Martin Barre Band consists mainly of playing classics from the rich history Tull as odes to various influences of Barre. The act also was marked by an educational musical history lesson.
After the sublime Minstrel In The Gallery and To Cry You A Song it is clear that a sample (prog) rock is played here, which is no longer made by bands at this time. The bar was then quite a dash higher in terms of compositions and ingenuity. During the introduction of the Beatles cover Eleanor Rigby tells Barre with typical British humor that a professor has taught him that to get the audience to dance your best to play a Beatles song. A strong performance follows ...
During a selection of Thick As A Brick Crisp proves that he can empathize with the numbers. Although the band has no keyboards and horns is a one to one comparison with many original Tull songs are lame. That was not an issue. What gradually the concert was very clear that this foursome had oodles of fun playing these classics. And Martin Barre can without one Ian Anderson in the neighborhood is just doing his thing. And that's good musicianship and very good playing guitar. The fun, vitality and musicianship spoke for themselves and forced purpose alone admiration.
The nearly two-hour performance were many highlights. Gov't Mule's Thorazine Shuffle was sublime in its execution; a mix between Tull-like atmosphere and typical Warren Haynes style. Apart from the crystal clear sound this number had a hypnotic effect. Surprisingly, the band Blackest Eyes of Porcupine Tree played. Whether this has to do with the sublime remasters of Thick As A Brick and A Passion Play by Steven Wilson?
The second part of the concert consisted partly of a odes to Robert Johnson, Howlin 'Wolf and BB King with pure strong performances. The duels and duets between Barre and Crisp were a delight to the ear. The latter was also the mix and volume in the room. Earplugs were (thankfully) not necessary.
As an encore was a breathless performance of Locomotive Breath played with great guitar work of Barre. The audience was unanimous in its opinion: Martin Barre put together a band with his energetic and inspired performance down.
Martin Barre: guitar, mandolin Dan Crisp: lead vocals, guitar, bouzouki George Lindsay: drums Alan Thomson: bass, slide guitar, bouzouki.
Set list:
Watch Your Step (Bobby Parker) Steal You Heart Away (Bobby Parker) Minstrel In The Gallery To Cry You A Song. Misery Eleanor Rigby (Beatles) Thick As A Brick Love Is Why You Came Here Sweet Dream Song For Jeffrey Thorazine Shuffle (Warren Haynes) Wond’ring Aloud Blackest Eyes Paparazzi Martin’s Jig / Hymn Crossroads (Robert Johnson) Walking Down The Line Rock Me Baby (B.B. King) Smokestack Lightning (Howlin’Wolf) Fat Man A New Day Yesterday Locomotive Breath

Great video...thanks Jim. As usual, Martin comes across as a bright, fair and only a teeny, teeny bit bitter (heartbroken) guy. I so hope he finds himself on stage with Tull again. He's so talented and unique.

Great video...thanks Jim. As usual, Martin comes across as a bright, fair and only a teeny, teeny bit bitter (heartbroken) guy. I so hope he finds himself on stage with Tull again. He's so talented and unique. I agree although Martin seems more able to write his own music in the future. With time he could play less of the old tunes and develop a really great blues rock identity.
His music is still his own and the focus is now more on him than the other guitarist(Pat O'May). The current members look like they're having a great time which is what makes this band work well.
I was Googling for Tull in Nürnberg , Germany and came across this video. Totally unexpected. The Pro-Shot quality is very nice to see and hopefully a full performance will eventually emerge.
Another excellent video from Shelly Bonet whom opened up for Martin in 2014 She grew up partly in Germany, started her career here with Sunnyland Blues Band, before she returned to her native US. With her incredible voice she now starts after 15 years, a new approach and solo concerts, accompanied only by guitarist Dario Benedetti.

Martin Barre Band Nurnberg, Germany on October 8th, 2014 Video by senglerkanal
I know I will take some heat over this, but I can't help but feel sorry for Martin. Constant sniping at Ian, "all he wants to talk about is himself", please. We all know he was unceremoniously dropped, but this constant whinging about how bad it was is just childish and shows says more about him than Ian. He had a great ride, if he was not happy as a man or a musician, why didn't he leave and liberate himself years ago, especially years that Tull wasn't touring, and Ian was out on his own, like 2006?
Not to mention the fact that he seems to forget the loyal North American fans, or is it just the fact that on his own he can't seem to cross the pond.
I looking forward to his next album, it will be put up or shut up. But in light of his previous efforts, and that now he is taking claim to the blues standard that he is playing, he is building a big hurdle to jump. Some time it is better to shut up and play your guitar.
OK, have at Martin fans.

I see where Martin has gone through many struggles in his current direction. The future is always an uncertain thing for any musician that wants to have his own band. Now it's all up to Martin to make the hard choices. I will be glad to see him succeed but you have to wonder how long it will take.

I thought the interviewer was woefully unprepared and asking offensively stupid questions. Martin had the right to punch his lights out for any one of those idiotic questions. Tull Schmull, Martin moved on long ago, why put up with arseheads with Tull questions, is this 1970? Wankers!

I don't feel sorry for Martin, I'm glad he's free to generate opportunities and not forced to live out a rerun lifestyle in Gormenghast. He now has the chance to shine and really do his own music with just a nod to his musical past. I hope that any bitterness he feels is consigned to the history books in 2015 and beyond.
