Poor Martin...probably had private dressing rooms backstage bigger than this venue, in the mid-seventies.

I'm off to 'The Globe' in Cardiff on Wednesday to see the great Martin Barre. Try and get some pics etc.
Really looking forward to it but wish I could just jet over to catch the Homo again. Brilliant show. Enjoy all my American friends.

Not too late to jet over to Seattle/Oakland. Keep my snotty, venue-size remark secret from MB, okay ? I mean, does size matter ?

Not too late to jet over to Seattle/Oakland. Keep my snotty, venue-size remark secret from MB, okay ? I mean, does size matter ? Lend me your good ear while I call you the proverbial whatsit...my esteemed Tull mate I can think of no better place than the Guildhall St Ives to see Martin or anyone for that matter. Travel with me if you will to St Ives, Cornwall and the day of the concert. StIves, Cornwall is a stunning part of the Ukay. It looks like a little part of southern France. The Bay may not be as iconic as your Bay however the emerald green sea and the quaint Ukay shops and accents may entice. Lunch with a Cornish pasty. i57.images obliterated by tinypic/2uopdhk.jpg[/IMG] Dinner on the beach in the Porthminster Beach Café. porthminstercafe.co.uk/then a meander up the old cobbled streets, past the white-washed fisherman cottages and artists studios then up the concert. Afterwards we could stroll across the white sands and bask in the glow of a moonlight evening contemplating and asking ourselves " Martin and Ian - what do you reckon?"

Well said Patti (Nonrabbiticus)
Sometimes I find unusual venues for shows that may be smaller than back in the 70's. That's just part of the fun exploring these places I've never been. You can learn about the city too.
When tickets were less than a cup of Starbuck's coffee, no wonder they had huge coliseums to fill.
"Surely Johnny Depp as lovable Cap'n Jack Sparrow (working title On Stranger Tides) can't do St Ives much harm, especially not if his new co-star is, as rumoured, Penélope Cruz. Its narrow streets, its vertiginous cliffs and pounding seas are fabulously photogenic." www.theguardian.com/film/2010/mar/01/johnny-depp-st-ives-cornwall

I've lived there twice in my lifetime - so far The first place was called, ironically Virgin Street - I kid you not! It was given this name sarcastically because of the friendly ladies who lived there who's doors were always open - back in the 19th century - I hasten to add.

I would do anything to have the privilege of seeing THAT guitar player in THAT amazing place ( building and dorf)...the comment about the size of the venue was not meant to demean the place at all...just note how small a place for a fellow who played stadia and other gigantic venues.....I'd be there in a heartbeat if i could. Come on...you guys must have a few thousand airline miles and/or Pounds sitting around to make it happen.

I know I've posted this before but we are only a really very small country ( smaller than the state of New Jersey ) but as Steel says size isn't important. Although we have many more seaside towns nicer than St Ives ( dont bite Non Rabbit ) The oldest record store in the World is in Wales. What a place to buy your tickets to see Martin Barre. www.spillersrecords.co.uk/OneOldDuck

The Nato Summit is in South - Wales Cardiff/Newport. Its f**king incredible. You cannot move for secret service/police/army/RAF. Everywhere is ringfenced. Cops on every road exit, helicopters overhead even warships in Cardiff Bay!. Every mobile phone in a 30 mile radius being monitored. $h1t they are watching me messaging you (is that a song) Setting off early to see MB in Cardiff. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-29016411Have a look at the link. Do you reckon they got enough police motorbikes in Caerleon? PS. Patti - Tenby on the list for the world tour of Wales PPS. Hope I dont get arrested in Cardiff ( I got a library book overdue - is that an offence? ) Airforceoneduck

Sometimes its hard to put into words and describe 'An Experience'. I'll keep in brief because I could write a thesis on this one. I had reservations about the material, the set up of the band, the venues etc...... everything was blown out of the water last night. The venue was small, I stood no more than 15 feet from the stage. I have sat front row at JT gigs and watched Martin but this was his show. He tore it up, his playing was like nothing I've never seen before, I could see the whites of his eyes but watched mesmorised for 2 hours at a lesson in guitar playing. My brother (who is a frustrated guitar player) was almost in tears The band were excellent, really liked Alan Thompson on bass, fluid player and Richard Beesley on Sax adeed a great sound. Bought the new CD 'Order of Play' and a cracking full colour, high quality tour programme for £3 ( yes not a typo ) Met Martin after the gig and he signed the programme and CD. He thanked me for coming and shook my hand! What a lovely man. I had my photo taken with him as well! Only downside was I moved back to get a few short videos but because the venue was so small and it was Loud the I phone couldnt cope with the sound from the nearby speakers and has come out distorted - b*****s! Also forgot to ask him where he got his hat. Never mind I thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening (apart from the standing bit!) and will teach me NOT to have pre-conceptions in the future. 10/10 Long live the great Martin Barre. Just one thing I forget to mention. On one song (wasn't a Tull one)the bass player played slide guitar and Martin played Bass. Im not a musician but he played umm....... not by picking his fingers but by using his thumb ( if that makes sense ) you know what I mean sort of thing.
